Did You Know Heart Disease Is Preventable? Help American Heart Month Save Lives
heart disease were half that. Over the past decade, the numbers have been rising at an incredibly worrying rate. Thankfully, there’s plenty you can do to greatly reduce your own risk of heart disease. For one, exercise can play a major role in helping circulate your blood and strengthening your heart to operate at maximum strength with minimal strain. Second, eating food with less than 600 milligrams of sodium per serving makes a huge difference as well! Third, I’ve talked previously about fats, but not all fats are made equal — eating good fats from olive oil or avocados will do so much more good for your body than hydrogenated fats found in processed foods. So long as you keep fat below 30% of the total calories, that’s all it takes to minimize your risk of heart disease through your diet.
Although the effects of COVID-19 have been profound on our country, there’s another No. 1 killer that’s lurking not-so-silently in our society: heart disease. Since 1930, coronary heart disease has been the leading cause of death for Americans. As a certified nutritionist, it pains me that heart disease has been pushed aside as an “inevitable” disease, when, in fact, heart disease is completely preventable for most people (unless you’re genetically prone). In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that COVID-19 took over 801,000 Americans lives and 690,000 Americans died of heart disease. In 2010, deaths from

prepare food for their clients and may not have the same training to do so. Also, caregivers often have intensive schedules and cooking puts a heavy burden on them. When it comes to providing food for clients, many caregivers have the same philosophy we do: When you really care about someone, how do you treat them? For us, we don’t want you to get addicted to our food. We want our food to nurture you, physically and even mentally (from the happiness of eating delicious food!). I hope you get a chance to spread awareness for American Heart Month. I believe a heart-first attitude is what will keep us happy, healthy and strong as Americans for many years to come, one meal at a time.

3 Fridge Hacks TO BRING PEACE TO YOUR KITCHEN
Remove products from packaging. Individually wrapped products make packing lunches easy, but they can be a hassle to store in the fridge when kept inside bulky boxes. Instead, line up your yogurts, string cheese, hummus, juice boxes, sodas, and other
Invest in refrigerator bins. Storage bins for your fridge are all the rage right now, and there might be a reason for that.
We all have our favorite ways to organize, but there may be one thing you’re organizing completely incorrectly: your refrigerator. It’s not just about aesthetics! A properly organized fridge can prevent food from spoiling, help you find items faster, and allow you to store more. Try these tips for fridge success. Store produce properly. There are a lot of myths surrounding what you should or shouldn’t do to properly store your produce, but there are a few basics you can abide by. For starters, store your fruits and vegetables separately. Fruits emit a gas that can cause vegetables to spoil faster. Furthermore, store these products near the front of your fridge or in a place where you will regularly notice them. This will encourage you to use the products faster — and prevent you from forgetting about them.
individually wrapped products along the shelves of your fridge or in refrigerator bins. This will eliminate the clutter of the packaging from your fridge and provide more space. Pro Tip: For a more eco-friendly option, stop buying individually packaged items! Opt for bulk or larger products instead and measure out serving sizes into small glass or reusable containers. Arrange these like you would the other products!
Refrigerator bins are clear and rigid in shape, which means items store and organize easier in your fridge. You can fill one with yogurt, another with eggs, and a third with fruit without worrying how the shapes of these products will fit into your fridge space. This allows you to have more control over your refrigerator. If you want to get more out of your fridge, check out the manual! It will include proper ways to utilize your refrigerator storage and settings.
