Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Daytona Beach will be an internationally recognized center for excellence in undergraduate research, innovation and scholarship, especially in the fields of aviation/aerospace, science and engineering, where every student engages in scholarly learning throughout their academic careers.

To provide a diverse set of opportunities for all undergraduate students to enhance their education through engagement in research, inquiry, innovation and/or other scholarly projects.

Faculty mentors play a vital role in providing opportunity, guidance, and advice to their students. In working together on a research endeavor, students learn how to act as colleagues and navigate academic and industry networks, develop skills first-hand, apply classroom knowledge to solve real-world problems, and shape their passion and career trajectory. As the second year of our 2020 Strategic Plan comes to a close, it is a pleasure to report the achievement of over 97% of the established key performance indicators. From increased participation in various programs to improved training and development, the Office of Undergraduate Research continues to meet and exceed the many goals established towards achieving our vision. The OUR team is looking forward to transitioning the next phase of the strategic plan for undergraduate research. Already hard at work on its development, the Office of Undergraduate Research will launch the 2023 Strategic Plan (effective July 1, 2020) in Spring 2020. We will also launch the Discovery Scholars program, providing quality mentoring, engagement, and financial assistance for first generation, low income, and underrepresented students to promote the recruitment and retention of said populations while supporting the University’s strategic pillars of research and innovation, student success, development and alumni, and enrollment management. The program will begin with a research-focused pre-orientation program in Spring 2020. Leveraging the success of the 2018 Innovation Week, OUR will lead a committee of campus and community stakeholders in the 2nd Annual Innovation Week, featuring new and improved programming focused on solving ‘Wicked Problems,’ including the launch of the Community Innovation Awards. Modeled after the Student Innovation Awards, student teams will have the opportunity to work with community leaders to develop solutions to our community’s greatest challenges.
