OM Support Groups February - June 2022

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and the Melanoma Research Foundation’s CURE OM initiative present :

Primary and Metastatic Ocular Melanoma (OM) Online Support Group

Open to patients and caregivers who are facing OM Facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker Meets the first Wednesday of the month via Zoom from 1-2 pm EST

Upcoming support group dates and special topics:

February 2 nd : OM vs. Overall Health 

Routine colonoscopies, endocrinology follow up, and dental cleanings, OH MY! How do you balance caring for your overall health when Ocular Melanoma can demand so much time and attention? Do you need help determining what takes priority? Come with questions and/or helpful suggestions to share with your peers. March 2 nd : Scanxiety  If you feel an increase in stress, worry, or irritability leading up to your CT and MRI appointments, you are not alone. Here we will discuss “scanxiety” and share ways to cope with the specific fears and anxieties that come along with oncologic surveillance. April 6 th : Spirituality  A non-denominational chaplain will join us for an uplifting session to explore how to make sense of spiritual conflicts in light of serious illness and how to utilize faith to build hope and resilience. May 4 th : Planning for an uncertain future  We will devote this open session to a discussion about the challenges in coping with the unknown and finding opportunities for success and balance. June 1 st : Nutrition  A registered dietician will join us to review questions about the relationship between nutrition and cancer and provide guidance on maintaining a balanced diet and coping with appetite changes.
