JULY 2022

PARK PLACE OF ST. JOHN Spotlight: Life Enrichment at PPSJ We hope that everyone is enjoying the Life Enrichment programs here at PPSJ! Since we have had several recent move-ins, we thought we could explain or remind residents of some of the activities happening here at PPSJ. Library First, we would

Every Thursday, we take the bus at 8:30 & 10:30 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. to St. John. You can choose between Dollar Tree, Aldi, Target, or Strack & Van Til. We need all residents to call ext. 1031 to sign up once you receive your weekly calendar — you will leave your name, room number, what time you will shop, and what store you would like to visit. You will not receive a call back unless the trip you chose is full. All other trips usually involve a trip to an event, restaurant, or concert. Most of these events will be in the monthly newsletter as well as the weekly calendar. Sign up as soon as possible.

like to thank all our residents and their families who have donated books to our libraries, which has enabled us to have a wonderful selection of books. Our Main Library is located on the first floor nearest to the Concierge desk. This library is full of fiction books organized by author. You will notice that there are books on the north wall with green dots — these are mystery type books. Our other library is located on the second floor in the Gathering Room. You will find Biographies, Historical (fiction & non-fiction), Christian Topics, Bible/Devotionals and large print books (various topics). There is no need to check out books, we just ask that you return the books to the basket or book cart found in each library. A big thank you to our Librarian Marion and to Jean for helping us get the massive amounts of donated books organized and put away properly. Any books that we do not put on our shelves are donated to local secondhand shops that support our local Christian schools.

Theatre/ Concerts We love going to concerts and musicals! When you see something

you want to attend, please sign up right away. Tickets will be purchased and billed to your monthly statement after the event occurs. Should you have to cancel, we ask that you call Gina or Wendy — we will look for someone to possibly take that ticket. FYI — Northwest Indiana Symphony will have a new season starting in October. We have several residents that go on a regular basis, so we will be purchasing season tickets this next year — this guarantees your seat for each concert. We are looking forward to West Side Story and Christmas Pops Concert Fall/Winter 2022. If Munster Theatre reopens, we will also purchase season tickets. See Gina or Wendy with any questions.

PPSJ Bus All activities

involving the bus require sign-up. We need to make sure that we have enough seats for everyone and determine if there is a need to add another trip.

Cards & Games There are a lot of games going on at PPSJ! Some games are run by Gina or Wendy and others

Life Enrichment at Park Place

are run by residents. We have a Wii system where we play Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (sometimes Skeeball). Wii Bowling is super popular — see Gina or Wendy if you would like to learn how to play or just come to an “open” bowling session and a resident can show you how to play. Bingo is super popular as well and is played 3 times a week. We continue to look for more Pinnacle players, so please call ext. 1031 if you are interested. We have been playing Bunco and Scrabble on Saturdays with Wendy and volunteer Ruth Ann — come check it out! We have recently started playing Bridge, which is on the calendar for Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. — we could always use more players. Poker on Saturdays has been going strong for many years now. We will be starting Canasta sometime in July, so watch your calendars! Newsletter, Calendar, Channels 1901 & 1902 Just a reminder, our monthly newsletter is written weeks in advance. If changes are made

Do you have something you would like to share or have a request or announcement for our community? Contact Gina Ringo at ext. 1031 . Submissions must be in by the 15th of the month for the next newsletter.

Piano Players at PPSJ

You have probably noticed Emily Olsson playing the piano during various times during dinner on Thursday nights. She was here a few months ago performing with Dykstra Family & Friends. She has been so kind to offer to play for us this summer. Please stop by to say hello and thank her for sharing her talents with us.

with dates or times, it will be done on your weekly calendar and channels 1901 & 1902. When you see an activity that interests you (and involves sign- up), you can sign up as soon as you see it in the newsletter.
