PCNY From the President 2019

Dear Members, As our fiscal year draws to a close, I am writing to thank you for your support. It is through your membership that we become a home – relevant, supportive, and entertaining. The Club’s Board, Committees and Staff have worked hard all year toward that goal. of the Board, I am pleased to announce that come Fall, we will have successfully delivered three of the four key priorities established in 2015 as part of our five-year Strategic Plan. As a reminder, our key priorities concerning the Clubhouse were: • Enlarge the Lounge by moving the Library to the 7th Floor, providing a quiet area for reading and reflection. • Expand and upgrade the appearance of the Members Lounge to create a sophisticated yet comfortable environment for casual conversations and social engagement. • Create more business-related workspace on the first floor by installing a professional, modern Business Center. • Upgrade the appearance of our remaining guest rooms and bathrooms. Special thanks to the House Committee for their oversight of the new elevators, lounge and business center, library, and hallway improvement projects. Multiple meetings were held to discuss design and architectural elements of the project. Board and committee members handpicked woodwork and selected pieces of furniture tailored to the Club’s style. A great deal of time was devoted to ensure we met and continue to meet your expectations regarding these high-use member areas. Our final priority is upgrading our remaining guest rooms and bathrooms on floors 6, 7, and 8. Back in 2008, when we renovated the 5th floor, the cost of each room ran approximately $50,000. Today, upgrading one room along the same design and product level will cost $75,000. Our challenge is to raise enough funds to complete this project. Service Our Food and Beverage Committee listened to your feedback and adjusted restaurant service times and offerings. For your convenience, you can now visit the Bar & Grill during off hours between 9am-11am and 2pm-5pm for late breakfast or lunch. Discounted Prix Fixe dinners and longer operating hours are available following large lectures and daily “Happy Hours” will be served at the Bar from 5pm – 7pm. Dues & Assessment Our Finance Committee and Board voted for a modest 5% increase in dues which is necessary to keep up with the increasing Labor, Real Estate Tax, and Product/Maintenance costs of operating a Clubhouse in NewYork City.Though the assessment will increase slightly in relation to the increase in dues, the percentage will remain the same as last year. Happenings

Our New Members Over 500 new members have joined the Club this year along with two new Affiliate Schools. Please welcome Georgetown University and Ohio State University. These great institutions have active alumni groups in NYC who are eager to meet you and become part of our community by contributing new members, events, and great speakers for our Programming calendar.Welcome! Beginning again in September, if you are a new member or simply want to meet some new members please attend one of our monthly networking happy hours. We host Young, GenX, or Senior Members in the Grill on rotating Friday nights. Long time mem- bers are invited too – so come for a Happy Hour Cocktail and stay to meet new people and discover ways to get active in Club life. PCNY on Campus The Club’s membership staff visited Princeton and NYU to introduce the Class of 2019 to the Club. Students and parents were reminded that membership offers a safe, fun environment for young alumni to meet new friends and network for their personal and professional lives. Industry targeted events, Black Tie Ivy Inter Club events, and an affordable mid-town gym delivers just the right support for a recent grad’s arrival to the big city. PCNY Summer is sizzling! This summer, we are sailing on the Adirondack in NewYork Harbor, barbequing and sipping cool cocktails at Wednesday’s on the Terrace, and watching some great tennis at the US Open. Be sure to read your Summer Edition of the Member Experience so you won’t miss a thing! And if you ever want to know where we’re going or where we have been, visit us on FB, Instagram, or our PCNY App to find events, friends and a celebration of PCNY food, wine, and spirits. Future Survey To serve the complete lifecycle of a member is one of our primary goals. Only by listening and anticipating your future needs can we thoughtfully and responsibly steer the Club’s future and make the capital improvement and service enhancements you desire. Our Membership Department is beginning work on a new Member Survey which will be sent in early 2020. The results will be used to inform our next 5-year Strategic Plan. The content for this survey is being discussed in upcoming board meetings slated for Fall 2019. I encourage you to reach out to our Membership Department or to me directly at [email protected] for ideas and suggestions.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you to continually improve our member experience. Sincerely,

Richard Block, ‘73 [email protected]

Hard Hat days are underway on the first floor in the new lounge and business center. Construction is proceeding, and we are on track for opening in late August 2019. Our new lounge will provide a gracious setting with luxurious furnishings and will feature a stone fireplace and vintage bar.The business center next door makes room for your professional life with work stations, Hot Desks and boosted cell phone booths for private calls. Our new Library is also scheduled to open this summer in its new home on the 7th floor. During construction, a temporary lounge is available on the 6th floor, from 7:00AM - 7:00PM with coffee and tea service from 11:00AM - 5:00PM.
