The Pittman CONNECTION The Newsletter About Your Health And Caring For Your Body Big Things Happening at the Huelsing Household!

If you do not know me I am Mitch Huelsing, one of the Doctors of Physical Therapy here at Pittman Physical Therapy. At Pittman we all strive to excel to do our best to help you achieve your goals. To get better at what we do, we continually learn the latest and greatest skills and techniques. I am currently pursuing a Fellowship in Physical Therapy for specialized treatments to best serve our patient population which includes advance manual skills. I am married to an amazing wife, Catie. We have three chickens that give us about 3 eggs a day. We are happy to share with everyone that we will be expecting our first child in December, so prayers appreciated! We are not finding out the gender so put your bets in now! I think it is going to be a girl and my wife thinks it is going to be a boy.

We also recently just recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We traveled for a long weekend in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We enjoyed hiking, spending time by the Lake, and playing tourist while we were there. The next weekend on June, 3rd, our actual anniversary date we ate an incredible dinner downtown at Flight. I highly recommend it if you have not been there. My wife works at Harvest Church. She is getting geared up for the summer with church trips to the beach with the high school youth and to the Smoky Mountains with the middle school. I am spending the summer fishing when I can and waiting for Tiger football season to start up in the Fall. I played Football there, so Memphis is in my blood. Go Tigers!!

Patient Success Spotlights

“I feel I am myself again.” “Day 1 – I hated everyone (just kidding). Day 1 Consult – Mitch examined me and my range of movement, which was very little. He noticed that there was more swelling than normal and recommended I go to the ER. OrthoMemphis was still opened and was able to see me right away. They put me in a compression wrap and had me keep my leg elevated over the weekend. – Good call, Mitch! My range of motion and pain level changed for the better each and every day after that because of the excellent care and attention each of the PT’s here gave me. Their instructions were clear and they all pushed me just enough. I feel I am myself again. Thank you all!!” - Benjamin Ruiz

“Being pain free is something I only used to dream about.”

“In the beginning. I was only able to sleep two to three hours a night before the pain in my left shoulder would wake me up and keep me up. I am now able to sleep the entire night pain free. Thanks. Being pain free is something I only used to dream about.” - Lee Mckay

Many people are so busy that they barely have time to eat, let alone pause for a water break, and you may find that you often go hours and hours without quenching your thirst. But staying hydrated has real advantages, including helping you maintain your energy and focus. It’s important to give your drinking habits the attention they deserve. Here are some simple ways to stay hydrated this summer. 1. Always carry a water bottle. If you have a bottle within arms reach, it’s very likely that you’ll mindlessly sip from it throughout the day, without having to make a conscious effort. 2. When you’re feeling frazzled, grab a glass of cold water. Studies show that people instantly feel more alert after drinking H2O. 3. Sip on a mug of herbal tea every evening. If you make this a habit, you’ll add an extra cup of fluid to your body every single day. 4. Eat a diet rich in whole foods. By eating foods like vegetables, fruits, and yogurt, you’ll automatically up your fluid intake. 4 Simple Ways To Make Hydration A Habit

DON'T LET PAIN PUT YOU ON THE SIDELINES!

There is nothing more exciting than taking on a new challenge, sport or activity. For most of us, the thrill of accomplishing a physical goal is what we live for. However, are you prepared for it? The term “weekend warrior” means a person who doesn’t really train for what they are doing; they just go out and do it on the weekend. How do most injuries occur? Most sports injuries occur from ill-prepared individuals who just jump into the activity without first increasing their strength, endurance and flexibility. Your muscles, tendons, ligaments and other tissues need to be warmed up to work properly. They take enormous strain during running and sports activities. Therefore, if they are not in top condition, they are more prone to injury. Injuries increase as you age… If you think back to when you were in your late teens, you could go into a full sprint no problem, take a flying leap and do a whole lot without the

slightest thought about it. As you get older, your tissues become less elastic and in fact a little “drier”. When your muscle, tendon and ligament tissues have enough water, they are supple and strechy, allowing you to do a lot of activities. Keep yourself hydrated and stretch often to maintain elasticity in your muscles. Before and after Knowing the right exercises to prepare for fitness activities is key. Our physical therapy experts have years of experience rehabilitating people after injuries and returning them pain-free to the activities they enjoy. What some people might not know is that physical therapists put specific exercise plans together based on your needs to prevent injury. If you do start to experience pain with activities, Pittman Physical Therapy can get you back to enjoying your activities pain-free.
