Pittman: Post-Covid Recovery

‘ahhh!!!!’ The Pittman CONNECTION The Newsletter About Your Health And Caring For Your Body OPEN UP AND SAY

Finally. I say that again, Finally. Things are starting to open up. Travel is getting back to normal. Restaurants are getting back to normal. Places like Virginia have finally opened up the public parks. Tens of thousands of people are saying, AHHH! Finally. We have never closed and I am so thankful for my staff that has come in every day and faithfully served our patients and clients to help them continue to move and live pain free lives. It has been tough. The fear has been real. We cannot let our guard down though. Even if we have been vaccinated, nobody knows how long or to what extent it will last. Enough about that stuff. On to the good!!! SPRING! Marvelous Spring. The dawning of newgrowth. Anewyear. Budding of prosperity. I wake up and move to the window and look outside every morning (with a cup of coffee of course) and marvel at the site of the newness all around. I am especially excited about this year. Sports didn’t happen last spring. We have been on the run for the last 3 weeks. I look back and realize that it was slightly nice to not have the crazy last year, but I would trade this crazy for what we had any day. We have 2-5 baseball games everyweek. Foster is doing really well. I told him last night that I was proud that he hit a slow pitch to the opposite field. Why?? Slow pitchers have always struck him out. He couldn’t wait on the ball. I said no less than 1000 times for him to let the ball get there. After 3 years, he has finally figured it out.

Stone is a senior this year. It is insane the number of things you have to do for college. We never experienced it with Sophie. She just went straight to LA. Nowshe is inAtlanta. Busy as ever. You may even get to see her on the screen again. Fingers crossed. Stone has decided to go toBAMA. Notmy alma mater but there was a draw there. He just has to hyper focus on this last semester and keep his grades up. College is so expensive!!! Back in my day (as my dad would say) college was cheap. I came out with 6K of student loans. That was it. Scholarships help though. That is why he has to FOCUS on the grades. Sweet Brinkley is just dancing away. She has grown so much, not only as a dancer, but as a person. She is so kind and considerate. Every time, without fail, that I take her to the studio to dance, she says “thank you for bringing me, I love you!” My heart melts. Pittman is planning some big things this year. Check your email on the regular. Like our facebook page. If you don’t currently get emails from us, go to Pittmanpt.com and sign up. This month, we are featuring our Post Covid Recovery Program. Check this issue out for more information on how PT can help you to fully recover if youwere one of the unlucky ones to get the virus. Until next month, stay healthy my friends, Jeremy

As time has passed, the list of side effects from COVID-19 has lengthened drastically. What Your Physical Therapist Can Do to Help You Recover From COVID-19

Although many people do not experience severe side effects of the virus and therefore may not need intense rehabilitation, there are plenty of people who come through our doors feeling extremely weak and at a loss for how to shake the residual problems caused by the virus. COVID-19 places a lot of physical and emotional stress on a person, and as your body fights the virus and begins to heal itself, you might be left feeling as if you really have just sustained an injury. COVID-19 side effects should be treated just like any other kind of physical trauma that results in pain. Regaining your strength back after a bout of COVID-19 is a long process, but physical therapy can help. Our skilled therapists at Pittman Physical Therapy (Continued from Previous Page)

can help patients get their muscle strength, stamina, and energy back during recovery. Pittman Physical Therapy doesn’t have all the answers about when COVID-19 will be a thing of the past. What we do know, is that our physical therapy treatment options are a sure-fire way to help those in need of rehabilitation. PATIENT SPOTLIGHT "Pittman Physical Therapy has been there since the beginning of my injury adventures. Recently, I attended a basketball camp with my team at Briarcrest and dislocated my knee. Previously, Pittman had helped me recover from a foot surgery, so of course I went straight to them to help me with my knee recovery. I tried not to have surgery, but if I wanted to play Basketball my sophomore season, Dr. Biggers and my PT said I would have to have surgery. I was told that I would have a 6 month recovery, but with the help of my physical therapists and the hard work I put in, I fully recovered in 4 1/2 months. I worked with Mallory, Jeff, Tessa, Maranda, and a few other people in the practice. I will forever be thankful for the hard work they put into helping me play the sport I love most." 5 Health Benefits of SPRING CLEANING!

1. Allergy Symptom Reduction. A thorough cleaning can greatly reduce the amount of dust in your home, which is helpful considering about 20 million Americans are allergic to dust mites according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. A 2014 study by the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunity found that cleaning and decluttering your home can help you avoid allergy symptoms and make you feel more healthy. 2. CleanlinessProducesHappiness. Maybe you don’t enjoy the process of cleaning, but the end result will leave you smiling. A 2010 study at the University of California, Los Angeles found that having a clean home can improve your mood and reduce your risk of depression. Studies also show that doing housework for 20 minutes can reduce stress and anxiety by up to 20 percent. 3. Better Heart Health. If you’re looking for an easy way to support your heart health, just 30 minutes per day of light exercise (including low-intensity physical activities like household chores, vacuuming, mopping, and scrubbing floors) can decrease your risk of heart

disease by 24 percent.

4. Declutter and Do a Good Deed by Donating. An essential part of a successful spring cleaning is getting rid of old items that are no longer used or worn. Apply the rule of thumb that if you haven’t made use of something in a year, it’s time for it to go. Fill bags and boxes of things, then donate them to a local charity so they can still be beneficial to someone else. Giving to others is an act that is associated with greater self-esteem, lower stress levels, and overall happiness. 5. Get a Better Night’s Sleep. Do you have trouble sleeping at night? The National Sleep Foundation found in a recent poll that people who make their beds are 19 percent more likely to sleep well on a regular basis. Clean sheets with a fresh scent impacted 75 percent of those individuals polled. See what a difference spring cleaning can make by cleaning the clutter from your room and sleeping on some fresh sheets.
