WORKSHOP
Dear Departmental Trainers at Shangri-La,
I hope you are all well and greetings from SLIM Dubai.
I ammost excited to be able to meet you in person soon and to facilitate the Learning about Learning Workshop in your hotel. In this workshop we will be exploring the following concepts: • How is learning changing in organizations and how this effects the way in which we fulfil the role of facilitators of learning? • What are some of the basic principles of adult learning and how can we use them in our role as facilitators of learning? • What methods can I use as a facilitator to identify training needs in my department? • What learning solutions can I provide after identifying a training need?
In preparation to the workshop, kindly complete the brief pre-work activity described in the next page.
I look forward to seeing you soon and to learn together about learning!
Warm regards,
Daniel Agudelo Assistant Vice-President HR L&D – MEIIO & EUNA Shangri-La
PRE-WORK ACTIVITY Much have been said about the way adults learn. Multiple theories present information related to “the best methods” that facilitators can use in order to transfer knowledge to adults. However, in the last two decades neuro-science has been able to produce significant contributions to understand how adults really learn. By studying the brain while it learns, neuroscientists have made discoveries and broken some past myths associated to traditional learning. In this brief video, Dr. Julia Sperling presents some of these findings and invites us to consider the importance of brain functioning in the learning process.
Please take 6 minutes to watch the video and note down in a piece of paper:
• What did you find most interesting from this video? • How does it effect previous ideas that you had related to learning?
Bring your notes to the session.
