Sleep Awareness Week falls in March and reminds us of the value of having good, quality sleep in our lives. It allows our bodies and minds to recharge, remain healthy, and stave off diseases. When you aren’t getting SLEEP TIGHT: The Quirks and Truths of a Good Night’s Sleep

We all have a certain position or way in which we go to sleep. Some of my daughter’s friends require the TV playing in the background to go to sleep, which I think is crazy — I need it to be completely quiet and dark to fall asleep. Our 2-year-old Bernedoodle usually sleeps with my daughter, but when she is out at night, she comes and sleeps in bed with my husband and I. She’ll get hot and hop down for an hour or so and then come right back up, right in between us. It’s a vicious cycle. She weighs 65 pounds, but after trying to move her at night, you’d swear she’s a 6,000-pound bed hog. Sleep is one of those interesting things where you get into a routine and things such as down pillows make you sneeze, and dogs that bed-hog throw a giant wrench into the equation. I’ve noticed that I’m much more particular now than I was in the past about how I sleep. While I love to sleep on my stomach, I can’t really sleep in that position anymore because I’ll wake up with an aching back.

I just recently returned from a business trip and was reminded of how important a good, clean, and comfortable hotel bed is. You can call me a bit of a bed snob, but I need a nice, firm mattress with comfortable sheets and pillows. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that we all like our bed to be a certain way. At home, my feet need to be covered with the sheets, but my husband likes his feet to be out. So, his side of the bed is untucked at the bottom and mine has to be tucked in. (There’s always a fun fight about where the middle of the bed is to determine where the sheets are tucked and untucked.) We each have three pillows and we cannot swap them. When the sheets are changed, we have to make sure that the right pillows get put back on the correct side of the bed. If your routine is jumbled up or impacted by pain from a condition or injury, it certainly can make your sleep a nightmare instead of an opportunity to enjoy a nice and relaxing dream in your comfortable bed. For pesky pain, now is

good quality sleep due to pain and discomfort, that can haunt you with fatigue that carries over from day to day. In addition to this, you may become groggy, argumentative, and irritable. According to the National Sleep Foundation, healthy adults should prioritize getting between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night. However, many of us get far too little sleep and lack a consistent sleep schedule needed to provide for this. My husband and I are fairly consistent when it comes to our sleep. At 9 p.m., our television goes off and we read in bed for 20–30 minutes. I’ve found that turning in for the night at the same time each day makes a big difference in the quality of sleep that we get. I have three pillows that I sleep with. One pillow goes between my legs to support my back, one goes beneath my head, and the last one goes on my head to cancel out noise. This last one is a feather down pillow that I’ve had for two decades.

a great time to take advantage of our 50%-off laser sale. For more information about that, check out page 3 or call us at 508-528-6100 to learn more! Prioritizing good sleep is self-love!

When it compresses down, all of the feathers gather. I’ve come to the conclusion that I am allergic to these feathers because many times, I wake up sneezing and it keeps me up at night. I think I finally need to part with this pillow, and it’s breaking my heart a little bit.
