The 9-Month Wait Is Over! WELCOMING BABY EMERSON INTO THE WORLD

With about an hour to spare, I made it to the hospital in North Carolina for the birth of my first grandchild. Emerson Lee Murphy was born Saturday, June 4, at 12:11 p.m. Weighing in at 6 pounds and 2 ounces, she entered the world pretty quickly and was raring to go. Watching my baby girl deliver her baby girl felt amazing — there really are no words for the beautiful experience. It truly was love at first sight! Emerson as well as her mom and dad are all doing great. Emerson is nursing well and is a great and happy newborn. During the first few days while I was there, she spent most of her time either nursing or being cuddled by me. She’s Grandma’s little nugget. Just like her parents when they were younger, she wants to sleep all day and party all night. It’s certainly payback!

As I write this, I’m excited to say we are returning to my daughter’s house in another week to stay for a week and help out — I already miss my baby snuggles! Thus far, I’ve filled their freezer with homemade meals and desserts. It’s the mom in me!

The best advice you guys have given me about this is, “Keep your wallet open and your mouth shut!”

Time for a Gut Check

5 WAYS TO NATURALLY IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF YOUR STOMACH

If you’ve ever attended an event with older adults, digestion is bound to come up at some point! As we age, our guts sometimes have a difficult time keeping up, causing stomach issues and complications. When people talk about having a “healthy gut,” they are talking about having a good balance of beneficial bacteria and microbes within their digestive tract. Here are some natural ways to keep things healthy and moving along properly: Eat foods rich in fiber. Fiber, found naturally in many foods, including sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, fennel, beans, broccoli, berries, and whole grains, stimulates the growth of the good bacteria that keeps your gut performing in a healthy way. Fiber is also a great way to relieve or prevent constipation! Get moving. Exercising regularly helps to ensure that everything else in your digestive system moves along regularly too! Research shows that regular exercise promotes the growth of different types of beneficial bacteria within both animal and human digestive systems. Reduce stress levels. Did you know that when you’re stressed out, your mental state is affected as well as your stomach and gut,

“The Franklin Recreation Department provides wonderful services to children, the town of Franklin, and other supporting areas. The trails and walking paths are well-maintained across Franklin, including Dacey Field, DelCarte, Meadowlark, and Beaver Pond — just to name a few. The extremely benevolent staff coordinate youth sports that keep our children engaged both socially and physically with a sense of fulfillment. Continuing to provide our youth opportunities to develop and channel their energy during the difficult COVID-19 restricted era is critical to their development. The Franklin Recreation Department is an excellent resource in town!” –Nick Nick is a good reminder of why therapists get into physical therapy. as they are intimately connected? By keeping your cortisol levels low, you can eliminate and prevent some uncomfortable gastrointestinal complications. Stress, research suggests, increases the risk of irritable bowel syndrome, so managing stress can lead to better intestinal health.

Drink plenty of water. Hydration plays a key role in both softening and bulking up stools, making them easier to pass through the digestive system. It should be noted that liquids that contain caffeine, such as coffee or tea, can actually have the opposite effect on your body. Take your probiotics. Probiotics occur naturally in your gut. They help to reduce adverse symptoms of digestion, such as pain, discomfort, bloating, and gas. Ask your doctor to recommend a beneficial probiotic to incorporate into your daily lifestyle. A healthy gut yields a stronger immune system, comfortable and effective digestion, and an overall better mood! With these tips, you’ll be on your way to a healthier digestive system!

doing something “just for you” may seem unfathomable. Loving yourself means putting healthy practices in place to keep stress low.

periods of depression or self-criticism. Instead, you feel light and ready to stay active and productive, whether it be in your personal or professional life.

Self-love makes you a happier person. It’s no secret that loving and accepting yourself brings about a higher overall satisfaction with where you are in life and, in turn, happiness. Those who become stuck on their flaws and have difficulty seeing past them may find it difficult to experience joy in life. Those who practice self-love and acceptance lead more positive lives. Self-love is a confidence booster. Confidence is at an all-time low for those who focus solely on their flaws and are critical of themselves. However, those who practice positive self-talk and lift themselves up feel more confident and ready to take on the day. They recognize their self-worth and are comfortable in their own skin. Self-love turns dreams into a reality. When you’re accepting of yourself, you can willingly prioritize goals and focus on getting where you want to go. Self-love provides the tools you need to achieve great things such as maintaining high confidence, productivity, and resilience. Self-love is the secret weapon to leading a happy and successful life. When you look in the mirror, are you happy with the person looking back at you? What compliments can you offer yourself today?

Self-love builds positive relationships.

Loving yourself can also help you build healthy bonds with others. After all, as the saying goes, “You can’t love others until you love yourself.” If you

practice healthy habits and have a positive self-image, you’re less dependent on others for a feeling of self-worth, and instead, you have happy and functional relationships. Self-love boosts your productivity levels. When you’re happy with yourself, you’re less likely to procrastinate or experience

The Benefits of Self-Love

SELF-LOVE: The Gift That Keeps on Giving July 3 is Compliment Your Mirror Day, a day set aside to promote self-love and seeing all of our own great qualities. Self-love is an essential part of growing and developing as a human. When we care for our own needs, accept ourselves the way we are, acknowledge our weaknesses, and accept both our strengths and our failures, we are taking care of ourselves. Nothing we do in life should ever come before our own well-being. Here’s why it’s so important.

Self-love develops healthy habits. When you are kind to yourself and gentle with your flaws, you are more likely to make better decisions in regard to your health. Accepting yourself without any harsh judgment helps you to stay motivated to make positive changes so you can grow into a stronger, healthier, and better version of yourself. When you’re kind to yourself, you’re more willing to make a diet change and stick with it, exercise more consistently, and get ample sleep. Self-love keeps stress levels low. When you’re invested in your own health and happiness, your body is more adept at recognizing signs of stress and burnout. On the flip side, if you’re not happy with the person you see when you look in the mirror, you may not think you deserve a break or rest when the stress hits hard — and
