The Happy Tooth

From the Skytree to Namsan Tower

Daniel Maisonave-Tanon’s Many Adventures

This summer, I’ve enjoyed hearing about some of the awesome vacations our patients have been on or are planning to take. Many members of our staff at the office are taking turns enjoying some pretty fun trips of their own. Recently, Daniel Maisonave-Tanon, one of our front-desk team members, returned from a great trip to Japan and South Korea. His vacation sounded like a lot of fun, and I asked him to share some of his adventures with our patients this month.

I’ll let Daniel take it from here!

Earlier this summer, my family took an awesome trip to Japan. My cousin is stationed in Okinawa, and this trip was to visit him. He’d never been to Tokyo before, so we spent a lot of time doing fun touristy things in the city. I love looking out over big cities, so one of my favorite places we visited was the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in the world. The tower is 634 meters high, and we got to stand on the Tembo Galleria 450 meters above the city. Back on the ground, we visited a massive, five-story arcade, chilled and had tea at a real cat cafe, and walked around the district of Akihabara. We even spent a day at the Tokyo Disney Resort. I’m a huge fan of Disneyland, so this was my favorite place we visited in Japan.

because it’s close by and a lot cheaper to stay in than Japan. I was thrilled with this decision because I love Korea. There are so many awesome things to do, like shopping in the bustling Myeong-dong or watching people dance on the street in Hongdae. As I mentioned before, I love looking over big cities. So for me, the highlight of our stay in Korea was Namsan Tower in Seoul. Officially called N Seoul Tower, it’s not nearly as tall at the Tokyo Skytree, but the view is still stunning. On the observation floor, you have a 360-degree view of Korea. There are even signs telling you when you’re facing the direction of certain major cities. Much like the former “love lock bridge” of Paris, Namsan Tower has a roof terrace where couples can hang love padlocks together. It’s very sweet. These are only a few of the amazingly fun things we got to do in Japan and Korea. If you’d like to hear more, feel free to ask the next time you’re in the office! I’d like to share more stories. And my biggest piece of advice is this: If you have a chance to visit either of these countries, don’t hesitate to book your flight!

Before anyone asks, yes, I did eat some food. The ramen and shabu-shabu we had were great, but to be completely honest, I ate quite a few meals at McDonalds or KFC. Don’t judge me — sometimes you’re just craving burgers and fries. We booked a two-week trip, but my cousin could only get away from the military for one of those weeks. During the other, we hopped on a flight to South Korea

While there are many apps that claim to help people fall asleep quicker, very few are programmed to prevent sleepers from growing bored of the same monotonous soundtracks. Pzizz combines music, sound effects, and binaural beats, and an embedded algorithm generates a slightly different track each time you use it.

Snore Report

Many troubled sleepers who are able to fall asleep are jolted awake shortly afterward. The inability to stay asleep throughout the night can stem from a multitude of factors, but snoring tends to be the most common. The Snore Report app records through the night to detect any snoring sounds and then provides the user with an overview of the previous night’s recording, including an index to determine snore intensity. Using this app might not help you fall asleep faster, but it could offer helpful information about why you aren’t able to stay asleep. Instead of setting an alarm to jolt you out of sleep at a specific time, choose a window of time to wake up with the Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock. The app will sense your sleep movements and ring an alarm when you’re in the lightest stage of sleep. This way, you’ll wake at the optimal time, feeling refreshed rather than groggy. We want to thank all of our patients who put so much faith in us by recommending our services to their friends and family members. Everyone with a smartphone has heard time and time again that looking at your phone before bed is a bad idea. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “The use of electronic devices in the bedroom further disrupts the natural pattern of the sleep-wake cycle” primarily because of the blue light emitted from the screen.
