8 SPRING BREAK TRAVEL TIPS FOR FAMILIES 1. Choose the right destination for your family. Discuss ideas for travel destinations and what to do during your free time; be sure each person has something to look forward to on the trip. All-inclusive resorts are a great option, with activities for kids, spas for parents, and beaches and pools for the whole family to enjoy together. 5. Protect yourself and your home. Do not state that your home is vacant during your trip. Instead, tell trustworthy friends and family that you’ll be traveling, and ask them to visit your house once or twice to ensure there is no suspicious activity.

6. Travel on less popular days. Airline costs are higher and traffic is heaver on the weekends. Opt to travel midweek if you can. 7. Make reservations for special experiences. Many attractions allow you to buy tickets online beforehand (usually at a discounted price). If you have plans to dine at a popular restaurant, make reservations at least a month or more in advance. 8. Keep the kids on a routine. Don’t get too far away from your daily habits while traveling. Bedtimes should obviously be extended, but don’t over do it or falling asleep on school nights will be tough once you’re back at home.

2. Stick to your budget. Don’t blow your annual vacation budget in March or April if you plan to escape in the summer! Also allot a separate amount of money for the inevitable splurge purchases. 3. Take advantage of travel deals. Research the hotels and resorts in the area to which you’ll be traveling, and compare prices. Oftentimes, simply booking your accommodations in advance can save you big money. 4. Pack the essentials. Be sure to ask what toiletries and other products are provided before packing your bags.

Are you like many people, suffering from aches and pains? A daily back or neck ache may be more of a nuisance than anything. However, episodes of pain can become progressively worse, lasting longer and traveling to other parts of your body. If you don’t stop the cycle of pain and discover the root cause of each painful episode, the accumulation of damage to your body may lead to eventual failure of the spinal structures and possible surgery. However, if you address and treat the cause of your pain early through physical therapy, drastic measures such as surgery can often be avoided. Here are some tips to help you battle daily aches and pains: 1. ICE & HEAT For muscle pain from overuse or injury, rest that body part and take acetaminophenor ibuprofendependingonwhatyourdoctormayadvise you isbest.Apply ice for thefirst24 -72hoursofan injury to reducepain and inflammation. After that, heat often feels more soothing. 2. SLEEP Be sure to get plenty of sleep and try to reduce stress. The amount of sleep is dependent on your body. Some people only require 7 hours, others 9. Also, make sure you have a good mattress and sleep on your side or back with pillow support for your legs. If you sleep on your side,

put the pillow between your legs. If you sleep on your back, put the pillow behind your thighs. 3. EXERCISE Regular exercise can help restore proper muscle tone. Walking, cycling and swimming are good aerobic activities to try. Be sure to warm up before exercising and cool down afterward. Our experts at Activa Physical Therapy teach you stretching, toning and aerobic exercises to feel better and stay pain-free. Drink lots of fluids. Begin slowly and increase workouts gradually. Avoid high-impact aerobic activities and weight lifting when injured or while in pain. Consult one of our experts or your doctor before trying exercises you are unsure of doing. 4. Walking the dog around the local park or taking it to obedience lessons are just two settings where you’ll have the opportunity to meet new faces and interact with people you might not otherwise have come into contact with. And don’t be sur- prised if you’re stopped by strangers in the street who are eager to pat your furry friend and find out more about her. Childhood learning and responsibility. Having a pet in the home is a great way for children to learn valuable life lessons in a fun, rewarding way. Animals have a completely differ- ent agenda to humans, and bring things back to basics. They want comfort, feeding and love. In return, they give huge affection.”
