DANA LESLIE
real producer top agent Written by Elizabeth McCabe
LOVES HELP ING OTHERS THROUGH REAL ESTATE
Betsy the next day. She got her license in 2006 and sold three houses in her first month of real estate.
Dana Leslie recalls her first real estate transaction, dating back to her childhood years.
Over the course of having her license, Dana became a mom and also a philanthropist. “That was super important to me. I took a break from real estate to give back to others.” She also savored the time with her daughter and the precious moments of her early childhood. “Austin was booming, and the population was increasing so much,” recalls Dana. After missing her daughter’s gymnas- tics class a few times, she wanted to make a move. “I actually moved to Northern California,” shares Dana. There was a strong consideration for the CEO role at the Butte Humane Society, especially with her extensive his- tory with animals and the nonprofit animal world, but after digging into it, she decided it wasn’t the right fit. Although Dana stepped away from that career, she did decide to start something new – a children’s museum. A New Chapter “I’m the founder of a nonprofit children’s museum in Chico, California, which I started from the ground up,” smiles Dana. This museum was part of the revitalization project downtown. “Downtown was not thriving and had a number of prob- lems. One of the number one things to bring families and rehabilitate an area is to create something for children,” says Dana. A children’s museum can be a hub of a commu- nity. The road wasn’t easy, however. “It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears – literally.”
“My first real estate transaction was with Betsy when I was in the seventh grade. It was Christmas morning, and my mom wanted to sell our home and move for quite some time. My dad was hesitant. I made mom’s Christmas dream come true. I saw someone looking for a house outside, and I told them that my parents would sell their house. We called Betsy and made it happen,” shares Dana. When Dana was 26, she ended up joining Betsy’s team, eager to pursue her career in real estate. The Road To Real Estate After earning her degree in Marketing and Communications from St. Edwards, Dana worked in corporate event plan- ning. After planning a big corporate outing for a small oil and gas company, the CEO met her in person for the first time and asked her, “Dana, I have a ques- tion. Why are you selling such a small product? You sell events for X number of dollars. Why aren’t you selling a bigger product? You’re incredible at sales. You could be selling Bentleys, my darling.” Dana jokes, “I don’t know about cars, but I sure like houses.” Taking the CEO’s words of wisdom to heart, she called

Chico lost their homes in a matter of hours. Dana found purpose in her pain. “I feel like I was placed there at the perfect time. I ended up giving two families a home (with the sale of her home),” she says. Grandparents and their daughter and husband, as well as their granddaughter, lived together in a multi-generational home. Looking back, Dana comments, “Someone needed to live there, and it wasn’t me.” She also hired out the Executive Director position for the children’s museum, creating a job in the process.
Switching from nonprofits to real estate was a smooth transition because there is the “giving back” element. Dana is driven by having a purpose in life, which creates happiness for her. Knowing she can accom- plish huge goals for people in homeownership makes her job worthwhile. Returning to Her Roots Dana then returned to Austin and was for- tunate enough to build a house before the Austin market boom. “It was perfect timing,” she says. “I came home and took some time for myself before I was poked and prodded back to real estate. It allows me to give back in more ways than in one role in one nonprofit. I acci- dentally fell into a bunch of different people needing help with transactions.” Dana worked with Travis Real Estate before being recruited to Texas Land. She met Dave at Texas Land and found common ground in that they were both entrepreneurs. “It was a unique combina- tion. We both do residen- tial and farm and ranch. It felt like the perfect pair- ing to have the support of someone who sells a lot of farm and ranch as I grow,” reflects Dana. Her goal is to become a REALTOR® who sells all farm and ranch properties, although continuing to do residential listings for fam- ily and friends.

Austin Mortgage Lending Team takes pride in delivering top notch COMMUNICATION to Austin's Top Producers and working seamlessly together to provide all Texas residents with a Hassle-Free, Five Star experience.
Words of Wisdom Dana has some words of wisdom for those looking to enter real estate. She comments, “Align yourself with a really experienced mentor. Education is the key when it comes to real estate.” Also, expecting the unexpected when it comes to real estate transactions is important. There are always unique scenarios and unexpected surprises. As Dana says, “Saddle up with someone who knows what they are doing.” Active Interests When Dana isn’t working, she admits that she spends an “abnormal amount of time” with her child. She explains, “We do a lot of stuff together. Over the Covid quarantine, we did paddleboarding, hikes, and a lot as a tiny family.” An extroverted introvert, Dana likes to be a homebody, has close friends, and emerges on the social scene occa- sionally. She is also an avid reader and is currently reading five books. “My passion is animals, children, elderly people, and people with special needs,” adds Dana. She likes fostering kittens and has a heart for others. Helping others is what she is all about. Making a difference in the lives of others and helping them accomplish their goals is what this dedicated REALTOR® does best. Dana wouldn’t have it any other way.

Miss Austin Real Estate FABBIO MONICA
Monica Fabbio, founder of the FAB Property Group, has been widely recognized in the real estate industry and has a reputation for integ- rity, professionalism, and experience. With patience, kindness, and sophistication, she has made herself a well-known name in the Austin area and continues to love all things real estate. Monica was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She was always passionate and focused on performing arts as a child and did everything from playing classical piano, to dancing, to acting. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Liberal Arts degree, with a focus on Performing Arts, at the age of nineteen. Still young, she wasn’t ready to move to New York City on her own, so she moved to Dallas and worked as a commercial model and actress. After a couple of years of acting and modeling, she decided to go back to school for an MA in Journalism Broadcasting. From there, she worked as a reporter, editor, and substitute for the anchorman. During this time, a friend convinced her to participate in a Miss Hawaiian Tropic pageant. Monica was at first apprehen- sive but ultimately agreed. She ended up not only winning Miss Texas, but she eventually went on to win Miss Hawaiian Tropic USA and then the worldwide, international crown. This gave her an opportunity to travel the world as part of a two-year spokesmodel contract expe- riencing events like the Cannes Film Festivals for product placement, celebrity golf/tennis events, the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, to name
a few, learning about branding, advertising, and marketing along the way. Monica even- tually ended up with acting and modeling agencies in Los Angeles, CA. She spent some time working in L.A. but quickly realized that the lifestyle didn’t suit her, so she decided to move back to Austin. In Austin, she got involved in the high-tech sector, quickly climbing the ladder to become a Regional Vice President of Sales. She worked endlessly at various start-ups for six years. While she enjoyed the work and industry, it was not conducive to her growing family. She had given birth to a son, Mikade, and during his first eleven months of life, he attended thirty-eight business trips with her, traveling all over the United States. They were about to board a plane on that fateful day, 9/11, but it was, of course, canceled, and from that point forward, travel became increasingly difficult. The company soon offered her a sev- erance package, and Monica gladly accepted it. Growing up, Monica’s father was an architect. Through that, she found her own passion for buildings and architecture while traveling. She decided that she would get her real estate license and combine her large “Rolodex” of contacts with her love for architecture and her skills in branding, marketing, networking, and communications. She first hung her license with Keller Williams due to their excellent training program, and she made some life-long friends while working there.

In 2006, Monica had the opportunity to be an investment partner at Capital City Sotheby’s International Realty, (later purchased by Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty). With interest in the luxury market, she excelled in the company and was quickly recognized as a top REALTOR® in Austin. After 13 years, she decided to make a change and has been working at Compass ever since. Monica enjoys working with all clients, and her focus is to provide FAB customer service and a flawless overall experience. Most importantly, she loves the lifelong connections she has made with the vast majority of her clients. She is known for being a luxury REALTOR®, but the luxury is about service and not necessarily the property itself. She has sold everything but specializes in luxury, waterfront, farm/ranch, land for developers, and downtown hi-rise condos. Monica was a power player/luxury specialist on the American Dream Show , a national TV show featured on ABC, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV. She loved having that platform to provide great information about Austin to people worldwide and still relies on the skills she honed in the journal- ism world to create videos and marketing for her listings.
Monica has several licenses and designations including CLHMS, (Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist), ABR, (Accredited Buyer Representative), e-Pro (Internet Professional), GRI, (Graduate REALTOR® Institute), CNE, (Certified Negotiation Expert). As the Director of REALTOR® Partnerships for RARE Homes, an interna- tionally awarded boutique design, remodel, media, and security company, she helps target very high-end luxury REALTORS® who have clients needing major remodels for homes that are typically $5M+. She is a current member of the Elite 25 and Luxury League groups, representing the top ¼% of Austin REALTORS®, and has been for multiple years in addition to being an Austin Business Journal top Austin REALTOR® nom- inee and winner. In 2021, Monica was honored to win first place in the Women in Austin Real Estate Awards celebrating female role models and leaders in the real estate industry.

Monica has also been involved in var- ious philanthropic endeavors, serving on the board and/or volunteering for organizations including Dell Children’s Hospital, Any Baby Can, United Way, Austin Children’s Shelter, Junior League, My Healing Place, Lake Travis Education Foundation, Ballet Austin, Young Men’s Service League, and school PTO and Booster Clubs. She was once a nominee for the “Citizen of the Year” award in the Lakeway/Lake Travis area. Her greatest accomplishment is Mikade (21), and they also have two amazing pups. Mikade played varsity lacrosse football at Lake Travis High School, and he’s a guitar- ist and semi-professional wakeboarder. He is attending Texas State on scholarship in the honors business program, as he wants to become an entrepreneur. Recently, Monica and Mikade closed on an invest- ment property together, so maybe he’ll end up following in his mom’s footsteps. In her free time, Monica loves to go to events around Austin (especially those involving music), hang out with friends, do yoga, cook, and travel. After twenty plus years in the indus- try, and rounding out her third year at Compass, Monica Fabbio has built

BRIEN
real producer top agent Written by Elizabeth McCabe
“I’ve always loved real estate,” says Brien Silver. “I always wanted to get into it.” He had that opportunity in December 2014, but not before he lived overseas, broadening his horizons through teaching English and visiting over 20 countries. Brien’s Background Born and raised in Dallas, Brien came to Austin in 2002. He attended St. Edward’s University at the business school and loved it. Brien comments, “I’ve been in Austin for 20 years and have seen the city grow. It has a special place in my heart, and it’s been home for a long time.” In 2010, Brien moved to Asia, first in South Korea, followed by Japan, and then for three-plus years in Thailand. Brien explains, “I flew to Asia where I played international soccer and taught English to kids. I traveled to 12+ countries, went scuba diving with sharks and turtles, hiked through waterfalls and villages, climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan, sat with Buddhist monks, met amaz- ing people, and tried amazing food that changed my life forever.
It helped me understand different cultures and opened my eyes to different ways of living. To what Community is really all about.” Brien decided to pursue his passion for real estate, which he had the opportunity to do in December 2014. He started with Juice Real Estate, a local boutique brokerage. “The brokers were fantastic,” he comments. Brien worked hard on developing and maintaining relationships. He comments, “I worked 12 hours a day for the better part of the last seven years.” His relentless work ethic paid off as he established his business with his drive and determination. Although Juice was a great starting point, Brien knew he was meant for more. “I felt like I was hitting the wall somewhere,” he explains. He joined Realty Austin in 2016 and took part in Ninja Training, an intensive training that schooled Brien in the importance of relation- ship building. He delivered personal notecards, sent meaningful gifts to people, and developed a thoughtful approach for each and every client. “I’m very particular on how to approach every single client,” he says. Using a unique approach, he connects with clients. He credits Ninja Training for his growth in business, going from $6-7 million in 2018 to $8 million in 2019 and $17 million in 2020 and, in 2021, $21 million. “They helped set me up for things I didn’t know I needed, such as creating a new website, rebranding with a new logo, and they offer amazing back-end marketing.” Putting Clients First A man of integrity, Brien made integrity the core value of his business. He comments, “I wear my heart on my sleeve. I know this is the biggest deci- sion for my clients. I listen to them. I work hard for them, and they support my family and me.” Although the first three years of real estate were “really tough,” Brien’s business started picking up more and more traction with each consecutive year. Two and a half years ago, he also started a new business, Silver Homes.

A New Venture After seeing numerous flips that used shoddy craftsmanship and poor products, Brien saw his next venture in real estate – launching Silver Homes. He and a client who wanted to invest in Austin researched flipping for months and months. “We did our first prop- erty, and we bought it for $210,000 and put $80,000 into it. We sold it for $385,000 in the first week with a 12-week turnaround,” says Brien. He designed the house from start to finish, choosing tile, countertops, flooring, and more. He spent hours researching and determining prod- uct selections before
finding a fantastic local contractor.
Since Brien started Silver Homes, he has remodeled over 15 homes. “We create beautiful spaces for people and families to call home in Austin,” he says. They have a reputation for excep- tional homes. Brien, who now works for Compass, uses the Compass Concierge to help clients make nec- essary improvements to elevate their homes to receive top dollar when needed.

Making small improve- ments can cause the house to sell for more money and in less time. Last October, Brien’s personal photographer and friend worked with him to remodel their home. It was $30,000 for remodeling and staging, and the value of the home went from $575,000 to $675,000 and sold it for $765,000 cash.

Rory and Brien play soccer and go swimming in the greenbelt and love the ocean and the beach and going to Colorado in the mountains. They are always doing something fun and active, as he wants to start traveling with her soon to new countries and places! Final Thoughts “Overall, I really enjoy marketing homes and love selling houses and helping people. I like helping people achieve their dreams. Whether newly married or single, buying a home is a huge purchase. My clients trust me throughout the entire process, and I take a lot of pride in it,” concludes Brien.

SPICKES STACY & MICHAEL ELEVATE THE REAL ESTATE EXPERIENCE
real producer top agents
Michael and Stacy Spickes have been REALTORS® in Austin for going on 20 years, a top-producing team at Realty Austin since joining in 2010 and a dynamic duo known for the concierge-level service they consistently deliver to their clients and game-changing solutions they bring to the real estate industry.
Rooted in Austin Having both lived in Austin since the early 80s, Michael and Stacy have watched this city grow from a mid-size college town to a thriving metropolitan hub. These two keep a close pulse on the city and love everything Austin has to offer: the diverse culture, eclectic art and music scene, open and friendly atmo- sphere, solid job market, thriving economy, beautiful lakes, Hill Country landscapes, endless entertainment, and recreational amenities, and the positive, energetic, upbeat vibe of the city. For these two, Austin is most certainly home. Launching into Real Estate Stacy comes from a long legacy of entrepreneurs, and with business-know-how in her DNA, in 1993, she earned her business degree in accounting from Texas A&M University and went on to become a CPA, specializing in small business development and entrepreneurship. After 16 years in the world of finance, Stacy decided to delve into her long-time interest in real estate, leveraging her business background to assist clients in their real estate purchase and investment decisions. In 1998, Stacy bought her first home in Allandale for a whopping $139K. Over the two years she owned it, she cobbled together $11K to do some cosmetic fix-up, and two years later, she sold it for $279K. It was then that she got the real estate bug, and long before HGTV made “flipping homes” such a trend, Stacy was making her mark throughout neighborhoods all over Central Austin, finding those “diamonds in the rough” and renovating them into the most special gems on the street. Stacy is inspired by beautiful home design and interiors and would describe her style as “casual sophistication, with a touch of boho whimsy.” Whether renovating an existing home of their own
“We’re passionate about real estate because we believe it’s work that mat- ters. As REALTORS®, we’re entrusted to help our clients with the biggest investment most will ever make: their home. Home represents so much for all of us. It’s where we put down roots, raise our families, build friendships, make memories, celebrate special occa- sions, and live life’s ups and downs. And as entrepreneurs at heart, we love the opportunities this industry presents to solve real problems that make a real dif- ference in people’s lives. Nothing lights our fire more than to serve our clients and this industry and bring meaningful solutions that make people’s lives bet- ter,” says Stacy Spickes.

or helping a client build a new home from the ground up, she is in her element on a construction site or in a design center, helping imagine and create the spaces that will become a home.
2007 and 2008, which then led to their launch of America’s Home Rescue. America’s Home Rescue became the first national short sale training and certification program for the industry, training over 45,000 Agents nationwide and in almost all 50 states. As the nation’s economy improved, Michael and Stacy jumped back into selling real estate full-time and joined Realty Austin, which, at that time in 2010, was one of Austin’s most “up-and-coming,” innovative, tech-forward brokerages whose values
Prior to his leap into real estate, Michael served for four years in the United States Navy and fought for our country in Desert Storm. After his military service, he went on to spend the next seven years as an executive recruiter in the Austin high-tech industry. After watching Stacy’s passion for real estate grow and develop, Michael’s own entrepreneurial instincts were tapped. These two joined forces to blend and leverage their unique skill sets to build the power team they are today.
An Unexpected Twist With his recruiting background during the dot.com boom, Michael had assisted many major tech employ- ers in moving thousands of professionals here to the Austin area. When a shift in the market began in 2002, the tech industry was hard-hit, and many of those tech professionals were losing their jobs, falling behind on their house payments, and needing to sell their homes. The problem was, as many of these folks reached out to Michael to help sell their homes, many were upside-down on their mortgages, and the only way they could sell their homes before going into foreclosure was to work with their lender to do what is now known as a “short sale.” This was long before the entire country began to feel the cascading effect of the speculative lending practices that led to the national recession of 2007-2010.

Michael and Stacy quickly became a top-producing team and have established themselves among their real estate peers as the for- ward-thinking, innovative, solution-focused duo that they are known to be. Michael is a visionary, a problem-solver, and an innovator. With so many folks underwater on their mortgages and needing a solution, Michael became whole-heartedly committed to helping distressed homeowners navigate a path forward by working out short sales with their lenders.
He took it upon himself to figure out and build the systems, processes, and formulas for getting short sales successfully closed in order to help distressed homeowners avoid the devastating effects of fore- closure. During that time, his mission was simply to help his own clients, but as he began to figure out the process for getting these short sales closed, he quickly became a go-to resource for helping other
REALTORS® here in Austin get their short sales closed. Local title companies, brokerages, lenders, and real estate schools began requesting that Michael teach short sale classes to their Agents. As Agents started implementing what Michael had figured out, the training requests began pouring in from other Texas markets and, ultimately, all across the country. This onslaught of nationwide training requests ultimately led to Michael and Stacy being asked to speak at the National Association of REALTORS® Conferences in
