Is back pain causing you to move a little slower and more cautiously? Back pain is one of the most common physical complaints that people suffer from and more than 80% of the US population will experience back pain at some point in their lifetime. Back pain can interfere with your ability to bend, kneel, lift, reach, do work and enjoy time with your family. Not to mention, it can make you down right irritable and affect others around you. Why do you have back pain? Back pain occurs for a number of reasons, but has a few simple root causes: • Weakness in the spinal and core muscles of the trunk • Poor posture and strain on the spine with slouched sitting • Repetitive injury to muscles and tissues around the spine with poor lifting

• Limited flexibility of the spine, hips and muscles of the thighs • Poor coordination of the abdominal, pelvic and back muscles

PATIENT RESULTS

I have never received such great care! “Twice or so a year, my lower back would “go out” and I would go to the chiropractor and get it put “back in”. My injury this year lasted longer and nothing I had done before was helping. My son had done some PT with Canyon Sports Therapy, so I decided to try it to fix my back. Andrea was amazing through helping me understand what was wrong with my back and how to fix the problem. I have done a lot of PT for different injuries and I have never received such great care and personal attention from a physical therapist. Andrea taught me the difference between strength and stability in the lower back. I cannot recommend C.S.T. and specifically Andrea enough.” - M.D. I have returned to full health! “Approximately 6 weeks ago, I came in the office with an extreme back strain that caused great pain for me when sitting. Over the course of three visits and several weeks of new exercises, I have returned to full health and full range of motion without pain. Thank you.” - A.H.

STUDENT ATHLETES Is Your Student Athlete Prepared for Peak Performance?

Give your Athlete a head start before they return to school sports. Schedule them for Injury Risk Screening/ Return to Sports Testing at Canyon Sports Therapy! Canyon Sports Therapy has adopted the return to Sport Assessment developed by Christopher Powers, PhD, PT, FACSM, FAPTA, associate director of USC’s Division of Biokenesiology. This is a world—renowned evaluation adopted by such organizations as FIFA (International Soccer Federation) and more locally some of our Utah Jazz basketball team members. This program was designed to assess your athlete’s biomechanical readiness for competitive or recreational sport. He/ she will be taken through a series of studies assessing such activities as running, jumping and cutting. Their movement quality, muscle strength and symmetry will also be analyzed. The results are simple and understandable scoring including a discussion addressing specific performance areas the individual needs to address in order to safely begin their training and competition season. Where our athletes have changed their training program to address their screening results we have seen a substantial reduced risk for injury and higher performance. This is the same scoring that is done during our “Return to Sports Test” which is used to establish return to sports timelines with our Athletes rehabilitating from injury. For more information visit our website: www.canyonsportstherapy.com or call our office 801-944-1209.

IRON MAN

“Finishing an Ironman 140.6 race has been a dream of mine since high school. I was lucky to get the opportunity to compete with my dad in his first Ironman and my uncle, a seasoned competitor. The swimwas a breeze and the bike flew by. However, due to an IT band injury, I never ran more than 10 miles in training and thus struggled a bit on the run. But thanks to helpful tips from the therapists I was able to correct my running form and complete the Ironman injury and pain free, in my goal time!” - Jason, our In-House Ironman
