Your Plans Need to Work for You! Your Financial Goals Need to Fit Your Future

Whether your dream is Hawaii, a different beachfront, or something completely different, when it comes to tax and retirement planning, that’s the

If I could, I would love to be sitting on a beach in Hawaii right about now. I would have just finished up an amazing game of golf on one of the big island’s many courses — of course, I would play a great game in my dream — and would now be listening to the tide roll in. Maybe I’d go snorkeling later that day, or I would sit down for a seafood feast caught just that day. Regardless, most of my days would be spent relaxing on the beach and golfing as much as I could at as many different courses as I could find.

mindset you have to equip yourself with. Every move you make, every potential outcome that you plan for, has to in some way steer your life and your future toward your goals. If they don’t, then what’s the point? The goal of tax and retirement planning isn’t to just set you up for a stable future and to protect your assets. That’s one key component of it, of course; broadly, it’s why this industry exists. But just as you weren’t born to fulfill a time clock day in and day out for the rest of your life, your retirement plans don’t have to fulfill one set idea of what retirement should look like. As I explained last month, it’s yours to do with whatever you want! But that’s impossible if your plan isn’t working for you, but rather against you. It’s right in the name. These are your plans! They shouldn’t adhere to a one-size-fits-all version of what retirement or your future looks like. And if your plans aren’t doing enough to get you toward your goals, then something needs to change! Unfortunately, not everyone has a destination in mind. This is okay — but it’s time to start thinking about it. I don’t believe you need to have a dream vacation like Hawaii to achieve this. You just need to ask yourself what it is you want out of your future. If your dream is to live closer to your grandchildren or to live out of your RV in retirement, then that’s a dream your retirement and tax plans should be building toward. And we can help you get there.

One can dream, can’t they?

September boasts World Tourism Day, which began with the United Nations. It got me thinking about where I would like to go and what I would do when I got there. The answer was obvious. For me, the ultimate dream destination is Hawaii. As a golfer and a fan of relaxing on the beach, few locations would be more perfect than Hawaii. You try reading that first paragraph again without picturing paradise! It’s perfect — for me, at least. However, I know that’s just a dream for the moment. It’s not the best time to pack up my bags for the beach just yet — but it’s not a dream I plan to give up on! Hawaii is on my bucket list, and I’m going to work to make that dream, along with many others, come true. The actions and work I’m doing today are setting me up for a future that I know (hope) will include Hawaii. Have You Heard Us on the Radio Yet? As we approach the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, it remains one of the darkest days in American history. Almost 3,000 people lost their lives when terrorists flew passenger airplanes into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The infrastructural damage was severe, but the damage done to thousands of families across the country was even worse. While 9/11 remains a day of remembrance of these tragic events, it should also be a day to remember the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to save others. These are just a few of their stories. Betty Ong and Amy Sweeney After five al-Qaida terrorists hijacked American Airlines Flight 11, Ong and Sweeney, two flight attendants, used the crew phone to call their colleagues and give them information about their attackers, including what they looked like and what seats they had been sitting in. Both attendants perished, but the information they shared helped the FBI jump-start their investigation. Rick Rescorla A Vietnam veteran who had earned a silver star for his service, Rescorla was no stranger to stressful life and death situations. As the head of corporate security for Morgan Stanley in the South Tower, he defied orders from Port Authority to stay put and instead escorted 2,700 people out of the building before it collapsed. After that, he headed back in to look for stragglers. That was the last time anyone saw him. Passengers of Flight 93 While two planes hit the World Trade Center towers and one plane hit the Pentagon, another plane that headed for the White House never reached its destination. That’s because passengers aboard this flight, upon learning their plane had been hijacked, decided to rush the cockpit and overtake the terrorists. They caused the plane to crash in an empty field in Pennsylvania, saving the White House but killing everyone on board. Remembering the Heroes Amid the Tragedy THE EVERYDAY PEOPLE WHO SAVED COUNTLESS LIVES ON 9/11

THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN CROATIA Your Next Affordable Vacation Spot! This gorgeous coastal nation will absolutely blow you away with its beautiful architecture, landscapes, and delicious blend of Mediterranean and Slavic cuisine. Even better, it's a fairly affordable place to visit! While many travelers land in Zagreb, the beautiful capital city and cultural hub, you wouldn’t want to miss these destinations. Dubrovnik As the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” this coastal city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Adriatic Sea. It’s a beautiful city, featuring 13th century walls, marble stone streets, Gothic palaces, breathtaking churches, and an imposing fortress. There’s so much to do in the town square — one of Croatia’s largest and most beautiful — and you’ll be able to explore many historic structures nearby. Nature also has plenty to offer, with secluded coves and beaches nearby for exploration. Plitvice Lakes National Park Near the border with Bosnia-Herzegovina, you’ll find one of Croatia’s oldest and most beautiful national parks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it’s quite the drive, you won’t regret it — the park has an outstanding and picturesque series of tufa lakes and caves, all connected by waterfalls. With over 16 interconnected cascading lakes, it’s unlike anything else you’ll see. If you get hungry, you’ll love the nearby National Restaurant Licka Kuca, which is famous for its traditional Croatian preparation of lamb under a cast-iron bell. Split The second largest city in Croatia (the first being Zagreb) is Split, founded by a Greek colony in the second or third century B.C. Historically, Split enjoyed being an independent city-state many times, and that free spirit is very tangible, as Split is very different from any other city in Croatia. With well-preserved Roman architecture and a multitude of museums, it’s no wonder Split is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although Croatia was among the first UN countries to open its doors to Americans, always be safe and check the newest regulations before booking your travel. Hopefully you enjoyed learning about this unique, wonderful country!

Sad though their deaths may be, these heroic men and women continue to inspire people even 20 years later. We should never forget the tragedy of 9/11, but we should also remember these regular people who decided to take extraordinary lengths to save others.

The End Is Coming!

It can also be valuable for those who owed additional tax when a tax return was filed last year or those participating in economic activities when not working (i.e., investing). As we continue into fall, we implore you to remember that the end of 2021 is coming quickly, and there is no time to waste when it comes to tax planning. If you would like more expert guidance on your end-of-year tax planning, please contact Capital Advisory Group today. Prepare for the End of 2021 With Some Tax Planning

September marks the end of summer and the start of fall, which means 2021 will be over before we know it. For many, the end of the year is a celebration of the past year and anticipation for what’s to come; for those in the tax world, the end of the year is just the beginning. Tax season is fast approaching! As we prepare for the end of another year, it’s vital that you consider any last-minute tax planning changes you want to make before it’s too late. December can often be a mad rush for many who are trying to get their final tax plans in place before the tax season begins on Jan. 1, 2022. However, if you can finish your plans in September, you’re not only guaranteed to have the plans in place that you need, but you won’t have to be part of that mad rush! There’s something peaceful about a calm ending to another busy year. TAKE A BREAK

Furthermore, if you are someone who pays estimated taxes on a quarterly basis, your third-quarter payments are due on Sept. 15, and the final payment is due Jan. 18, 2022. Any money that is overpaid throughout the year will be reimbursed to the payer, while any remaining balances will be due before the tax deadline the following year. If you’re considering tax-planning strategies this September, paying estimated taxes can be a valuable tool for those looking to utilize the totality of their paycheck, while avoiding a large tax bill come tax season. This method is typically used by those who don't have any taxes withheld from each paycheck; however, we recommend this method of paying taxes for individuals who may owe $1,000 or more when they file, are self-employed or independent contractors, or are representatives of direct-sales companies.

Ingredients Directions • Peanut butter of choice • Jelly of choice • Sliced bread • 1 cup of grapes, red or green • 2 bananas, peeled and cut into rounds • Kebab skewers, one per sandwich 1. Spread peanut butter and jelly onto two pieces of sliced bread and create a sandwich. Make as many sandwiches as you have kebab skewers. 2. Slice the sandwich or sandwiches into four pieces. 3. Slide one piece of sandwich onto a skewer. Transform a traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwich by adding fruit and all the fun of eating it like you would at the fair. Lunchtime was never so exciting! PB&J on a Stick

Follow that piece with one grape, then one banana round. Repeat until the skewer is full or the skewer has four sandwich pieces.

3 Books You Should Read This Fall

‘Thinking Fast and Slow’ by Daniel Kahneman Daniel Kahneman’s ideas have been used to explain economic theories, but in this book, Kahneman uses his psychological background to delve into the two systems of thought that drive our minds. The first, he explains, is emotional. The second is more logical and speculative. Combined, these can create misconceptions in our thinking. Kahneman, who has a Nobel Prize in economics, teaches readers how to utilize these two systems for better planning and overcoming our “mental glitches” in “Thinking Fast and Slow.”

As summer weather gives way to fall leaves, the kids are heading back to school, and you can learn right alongside them. This fall, settle in for a learning opportunity — or two — and check out these must- read books to become a better person, boss, spouse, and parent. ‘Surrounded by Idiots’ by Thomas Erikson Combining humor with simplicity, Thomas Erikson outlines the four major personalities humans tend to fall under in “Surrounded by Idiots.” Erikson categorizes these traits by color: red for those who are dominant; yellow for those who are optimistic; green for those with a go-with-the-flow attitude; and blue for those who analyze everything. By identifying these personality traits within yourself and those around you, you can find better ways to collaborate and communicate with coworkers, employees, partners, friends, and clients. Erikson is a behavioral expert and has authored four books on this topic. Get Reading! 3 Must-Read Books for Your Fall Reading List
