Chiro1Source - February 2021

Welcome to the Family, Bennett My Valentine Spit Up on Me!

I promised a big reveal, and it’s finally here: Meet our little boy, Bennett David Walker! This month is supposed to be all about Valentine’s Day, but as much as I love my amazing wife, Marah, I have to admit I’ve fallen head over heels for Bennett.

“Your water broke and you’re still at home?!” she yelped. “You’ve gotta go!”

2021 FEBRUARY

We piled into the car and arrived at the hospital 30 minutes later. By midnight, Marah’s contractions had started and we were on our way to becoming first-time parents! Bennett was born at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, about 24 hours before his official due date. I’ll never forget the kindness of all of the nurses and hospital workers during the birth. They were super nice and took great care of Bennett when he had to spend some time in the NICU because he wasn’t breathing quite right. One of them even smuggled me in some much-needed Starbucks around 7 a.m. on Bennett’s birthday. Our family was amazing, too — they kept dropping off meals for us so Marah had delicious food to eat. After two days of waiting, we finally took our baby home on Dec. 2. When Bennett was born, he looked just like my wife at that age, with a full head of dark brown hair. Now, though, I think he’s starting to look more like me! His hair has lightened up and he’s gaining weight fast. It’s crazy that he has already changed so much. It has been three months since I held Bennett for the first time, but I’m still not sure if being a dad has sunk in. That might have something to do with the sleep deprivation (you guys weren’t joking about that!), but it has been an awesome ride. Apart from Marah, our dogs are my main competition for Bennett’s heart. Hershey always lays beside him when he can, and every time he comes in from outside, the first thing he does is look around the house for Bennett and check him over to make sure he’s okay. Rock loves Bennett, too, and is constantly trying to lick him! I really couldn’t ask for better dogs or a cuter son. I’m just getting started on my fatherhood journey, but so far, it’s equal parts challenging and amazing. I can’t wait to watch Bennett grow up, and I plan to spoil him and Marah — who is already an incredible mom — every Valentine’s Day for the rest of my life.

Our journey into parenthood started on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 5:45 p.m. That was the moment Marah’s water broke. It’s funny looking back on it, but when it happened, we didn’t rush straight to the hospital as couples do in the movies. Instead, we sat around at home for an hour and a half waiting for Marah’s contractions to start. Eventually, we called our doctor, who couldn’t believe we were still on the couch.

“Apart from Marah, our dogs are my main competition for Bennett’s heart.”

LOVE BOOSTS YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM AND LIFESPAN

It doesn't take a scientist to tell us that a healthy, loving relationship can lessen our stress — but did you know it also boosts our immune system's response and could help us live longer? Multiple studies have shown that couples in happy, loving marriages tend to have lower blood pressure. Marriage itself isn’t the key to a healthier life — the love is, researchers find. How do researchers define a loving relationship? To put it simply, it depends on the couples’ own opinion. Married couples with a high quality (aka loving) relationship showed significantly lower ambulatory systolic blood pressure than singles. However, happily married couples and singles had lower blood pressure than people in low quality marriages. Which means, at least in terms of your health, it’s much better to be single than unhappily married.

When Josh’s dad, Cecil Walker, first opened Chiro1Source, he did business out of the same double-wide trailer where he and Josh slept. As the company grew, Cecil moved his operation to a local shopping center, then to the 5,400-square- foot warehouse and office space that we’ve used ever since. This year, Chiro1Source is leveling up again!

How does it help your blood pressure exactly? Well, when positive events occur, the hormones oxytocin and vasopressin interact with your dopamine reward system. Vasopressin in particular helps control blood pressure. Of course, getting into a new relationship can be a little stressful! Cortisol, the stress hormone, initially rises when you fall in love. However, it quickly drops in a long-term, stable relationship. Those low cortisol levels sustained for a long period of time contribute to many health benefits. But how does it improve your immune system? That’s a bit of a mystery to researchers. So far, women in love have shown changes in their gene regulation of immune cells compared to women not in love. Some theorize that this is in order to prepare for pregnancy. Unfortunately, we still don’t have conclusive research on whether men in love better fight flu and other viruses, too. High blood pressure is known as the “silent killer” since it has no symptoms, but it will steadily degrade your health over time, significantly increasing your risk of chronic conditions like heart disease. And while love is certainly not the only way to lower blood pressure, it’s comforting to know our loved ones can boost our health for a longer, happier life. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Near the end of 2020, we started construction on a major warehouse expansion. When we finish the new addition, our warehouse will double in size to 10,800 square feet. Josh can’t wait! He’s been watching the construction from his office window for weeks. OH BABY!

THE CHIRO1SOURCE WAREHOUSE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

HOW WE’RE EXPANDING IN 2021

INCREASE YOUR PRODUCT MARGINS TODAY BY BEATING AMAZON AT ITS OWN GAME

“We’re hoping the new warehouse space will be done by May 1,” Josh says. “We’re also adding a circular drive so freight deliveries don’t have to back out anymore. Now the trucks can circle and exit our warehouse dock more easily.” The warehouse expansion will give us more space to stock your favorite products and help us eliminate back orders. We’ll also be able to ramp up our supply of personal protective equipment, like gowns, masks, and gloves, so our customers will be covered in case of another COVID-19 flare-up. “Right now, we’ve just added onto the warehouse, but we plan to eventually add more office space, too, as Chiro1Source grows,” Josh says. If you’re as fascinated by construction projects as Josh is, you’re in luck! Through this newsletter, you’ll be able to watch our warehouse go up in (almost) real time. Keep an eye out for more updates and photos in future editions.

Here’s a nightmare scenario for you: Imagine a customer comes into your chiropractic clinic for an appointment, and afterward, they start browsing the products on your shelves. They pick up the pillows, ice packs, and neck orthosis for sale and take careful note of the brands. Then, they put them back and get ready to walk out the door.

“Did you find everything you were looking for?” you ask.

“Oh yeah,” they say, “but I’m just going to order it on Amazon.”

What a gut punch! Unfortunately, almost every chiropractor has been in this situation. Amazon was popular even before the COVID-19 pandemic, but now it’s relentlessly cutting into clinics’ margins. Luckily, there is a way to beat Amazon at its own game: our new co-label program. Thanks to an exclusive partnership with Core Products, Chiro1Source customers can now order cervical pillows, hot/cold packs, and two types of neck orthosis with custom branding and packaging ! Not only will this make the products appear exclusive and specific to your clinic, but it will also take away their searchability on Amazon. Your patients will get logoed, physician-approved, “Made in the U.S.A.” products, and you'll be able to set your price without online competition. It really is a win-win! Chiropractors who have used the program already report doubling their money because of it. One of the best parts about this co-label partnership is that it’s low-risk for you. You can try it out by ordering as few as 12 cervical support pillows or neck orthosis or 32 6-by-10-inch hot/cold packs. The process is really easy, too — all you have to do is fill out a short form on our website. We even offer free shipping and a satisfaction guarantee. We don’t want Amazon to win, either! To learn more about our co-label program and watch a short video about the process, visit Chiro1Source.com, click “More,” and then select “Co-label Program” in the dropdown menu. We can’t wait to see the designs you come up with.

Lockdown Ads: Have You Seen These Ones?

4

Well, That Was Fast ADVERTISING IN THE TIME OF COVID-19

Almost a year ago, most of the United States entered a period of lockdown in an attempt to thwart the spread of COVID-19. For marketers facing an economic crisis, this presented a conundrum unlike any they’d seen before. On the one hand, it was likely that spending would drop, although the increase in nationwide unemployment payouts helped mitigate that. On the other hand, they now had a “captive audience” like never before, with people streaming movies and television from home at a record rate. The lifestyles of those consumers had changed dramatically — could advertisers meet the challenge?

seller had already gained fame for its “car vending machines” in several large American cities, but it had yet to crack the national market. As their ads put it, they wanted to be a coast-to-coast solution for new car sales, and our newly confined circumstances meant many more Americans were interested in Carvana than before. The company dumped money into its streaming ads, and the results speak for themselves: Bottoming at $30 million in March, their stock was valued at more than $200 million just a few months later. Some advertisers settled for merely reflecting the new norms of remote life and work in their advertising, with mixed results. If we weren’t tired of the Zoom-focused Progressive ads featuring Flo and cohorts back in spring 2020, we’ve surely grown tired of their hard-to-parse antics by now. No matter who’s doing the advertising,

studies done as early as April 2020 found that many consumers were tired of being reminded of the pandemic every time they sat down to watch TV. With national anxiety at an all-time high and mental illness spiking during the pandemic, that’s no surprise. People didn’t want to face the reality of the virus every 10 minutes due to advertisements. On the other hand, some businesses were just hampered by circumstance. Carnival and Norwegian Cruise lines both ran aground with their streaming ads focused on spring and summer getaways. These seemed especially tone-deaf given that cruise ships made headlines at the time as vectors for massive COVID-19 spread. But the true loser of 2020 advertising was Corona beer. The poor beverage company never stood a chance.

They certainly tried.

For retailer Carvana, the virus was almost a boon. The Tempe, Arizona-based auto
