Tis the season to be thankful! During the fall season, many countries around the world have celebrations, festivals, and traditions that celebrate loved ones and abundant harvests. These celebrations are filled with fun activities, joyous times, and family. CRPD would like to take a minute and let you all know how thankful we are for a community that supports open space, parks, trails, and recreational programs.

Sixty years ago, the Conejo Valley voted to create the Conejo Recreation and Park District, a Special District that is run by an elected board of five people. The legacy that those in 1962 left all of us is definitely something to be thankful for. Because of the vision our community had back then, we are surrounded by a ring of green, with over 50 parks for our families to enjoy and over 5,000 programs for youth, adults, and seniors to participate in.

CRPD Board Members, June 2022

Thank you to the over 1,000 people that participated in our community conversation over the past several months. Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates over the next several months on what we learned from you. Your feedback will help us plan the next 60 years and what is important to the Conejo Valley.

Be thankful, be kind, be good, and enjoy the fall season,

Rochelle Callis Administrator, Recreation & Community Services

Parks Are Essential to the Community Water Conservation

CRPD Needs Your Help! Since 2013, the Conejo Recreation and Park District has completed numerous waterwise capital projects totaling more than $5,000,000 for drought response, resulting in a 33% overall reduction of water consumption. These conservation efforts include:

Converting 70+ acres of turf to drought-tolerant landscaping, Converting from potable to reclaimed water where possible, Developing new parks with waterwise improvements.

Due to the current worsening drought situation, the Thousand Oaks City Council recently adopted Level 4 water restrictions, requiring a reduction of 31-40%. CRPD is actively implementing additional water conservation efforts; however, if the community water reduction goals are not met, there is a strong possibility that additional water restrictions will be adopted later in the year. Any additional CRPD water conservation efforts must be accompanied by a significant reduction in residential and commercial water usage to achieve the desired current overall reduction goals. HELP US PROTECT YOUR PARKS!
