TAKE THE BALL AND RUN WITH IT Ready to become a management executive in the front office of a sports team? A career in sport management is a “catchall,” spanning across areas like marketing, law, management and finance. At Dean, you can choose from programs like sport management , business , marketing and more. Upon completion, you can work in amateur, collegiate or professional athletics. In the classroom, you will learn from professors who are working professionals in the field and will offer insights and share their experiences in the industry. You will hear from guest speakers, which have included professional athletes like Matthew Slater, wide receiver for the New England Patriots, as well as front office executives, including Robert Kraft, CEO of the New England Patriots ; Jonathan Kraft, president of the New England Patriots; Larry Lucchino, former president and CEO of the Boston Red Sox ; Tom Werner, chairman of the Boston Red Sox; and Jim Rooney, whose family has been the majority owners and operators of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 1933. Completing my internship with Kraft Sports + Entertainment at Patriot Place gave me the hands-on experience I needed to learn more about the sport industry. This internship was essential to developing the key skills that you can’t attain in the classroom , as well as putting the ones you have learned to good use for your projected career. DEAN B. Interested in working side-by-side with athletes? Passionate about physical fitness, health and education? A career in exercise science or athletic training TRAIN LIKE A PRO could be the right fit for you. Our exercise science program will enable you to explore a variety of career possibilities. You’ll study fitness and conditioning, anatomy and physiology, and nutrition, all while focusing on personal conditioning skills and gaining real-world experience in health and fitness settings. Geared toward students interested in working alongside physicians as certified athletic trainers, our pre-athletic training program focuses on the relationship between science, athletics and medicine. In this two-year program, you will participate in internships and practicums offered within coursework, and practice your skills in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries while under the direct supervision of a Board of Certification (BOC)-certified athletic trainer. Either program will help you train like a pro in no time! CAREER OPTIONS
As a pre-athletic training major and student-athlete, I work very closely with Dean’s athletic trainers, shadowing them as they educate athletes on injury prevention and care for injuries, all while remaining calm. I have already secured an internship with the baseball team and would like to work with a college/university after graduating. With the numerous opportunities that I have already received at Dean, I’m certain I will achieve this goal. CHRIS B.

Do you enjoy discussing sports day and night? A career in communications or sports broadcasting might be for you. Our sports broadcasting program will prepare you with specialized knowledge, including instruction on play-by-play, color commentary and analysis, interviewing, talk shows and additional reportorial skills for television, radio and podcasts. Every course has a practical application . You will hone your skills in audio, video and digital content production as you work with the College’s WGAO 88.3 FM radio station as well as Dean’s digital and TV resources. Learn from the best . Professional faculty includes John Rooke, who has 27 seasons as the stadium voice for the New England Patriots; 20 seasons as the stadium voice for the New England Revolution and 30 years of experience as the play-by-play voice for Division I college sports. If you are interested in writing, broadcasting and media relations, our communications program will immerse you in a production-based program that stresses practical experience in the field. You will also gain hands-on experience in both programs through internships, stadium visits and more. CAREER OPTIONS
The summer after my sophomore year, I landed a play-by-play internship with the Cape Cod Baseball League through the connections I made at Dean . Landing an internship like this made me realize that the size of the school you go to really doesn’t matter; it’s the people who teach you and mentor you that matter, and I would argue that no school in this area is better at that than Dean. BRENDEN H. After graduation, Brenden landed a full-time job as the TV voice of a collegiate baseball team.

Are you interested in coaching youth, recreational, club, collegiate or professional sports teams or managing health and fitness centers? The athletic coaching and recreation management program at Dean will allow you to combine your passion for sports with the skills it takes to lead a team. Coaches today do much more than run plays and win games. The best coaches are mentors and educators who inspire players to reach their goals in sports and in life. As an athletic coaching and recreation management major, you’ll prepare to do all that and more. Our program combines a solid academic foundation with activity-based classes. You’ll learn coaching fundamentals and theories alongside fitness, nutrition and personal conditioning skills. You’ll also study business principles and develop leadership skills needed to manage recreation departments or health and fitness centers . You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get real-world experience through internships, like working with the community at the YMCA or designing practice sessions and workouts with the coaching staff of one of our 16 athletic teams. You will also network with professionals in the field , which in the past have included professional coaching staff members from the Providence Bruins and New England Revolution .

With a career in sports entertainment, you will oversee the day-to-day venue operations, work with game-day staff and deliver stadium tours to sponsors. Combine your passion for entertainment and the arts with a strong foundation in business skills with our arts and entertainment management program. You will learn how to successfully run performances, fundraisers and community and sporting events. Our exclusive academic partnership with Kraft Sports + Entertainment will open the door to exciting opportunities like behind-the-scenes tours of Gillette Stadium , home of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, and meetups with industry professionals who hold careers in the field. You will have the opportunity to walk on the field, sit in the stadium and experience the excitement of game-day action.
