A GREAT TIME AT FUN SPOT AMERICA For a couple of years, we at DeWitt Law have put together an event at Fun Spot America to show our appreciation for our clients and their families. This past December, we hosted our clients for a day of rides, food, laughs, and plenty of fun in the sun. It’s always a great time for everyone who joins us, and this last celebration was certainly no different.

I had a great time talking with many of you. From go-karts to the SkyCoaster, there were plenty of things for everyone to enjoy during our event at Fun Spot. I will hold these memories from this event near to my heart for years to come. For 23 years, our clients have trusted us to be their legal representative and to fight for them. We’re just so grateful to people like you, for being so supportive throughout the year; we couldn’t do it without you. So, our goal was to provide you with a fun day — and in today’s climate, we all need some extra time to enjoy ourselves. We wouldn’t have thought this year’s appreciation party could be more successful than the previous year, but we were wrong. Our event at Fun Spot America was completely sold out, and we loved seeing so many friendly faces throughout the day. It’s just another testament to how fantastic and supportive our clients are!

I would be remiss if I failed to thank Fun Spot America for its partnership during this event. They made this experience so memorable for everyone who could attend. They’re great to work with, and we can’t wait to bring our appreciation celebration back to Fun Spot America next year for our third annual event! Throughout the pandemic, we were blessed to have many clients choose us for their legal needs. This experience has not been easy for anyone, especially small-business owners, but we still helped numerous clients, and we sure don’t plan to stop anytime soon. There’s no telling what route the pandemic will take us on next, but together we are strong and can overcome anything. I know we’re all hoping for better days in 2022. If you missed out on our appreciation party for 2021 and want to ensure that you don’t miss any of the exciting events planned for 2022, join our text service. Send us a text at 407-698-3984 to join and stay in the loop with everything that’s happening at DeWitt Law. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves at Fun Spot America, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

4 Steps to Success TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO SET GOALS

This new year, teach your children how to set healthy, achievable goals.

FOCUS ON KEEPING IT SMALL. If you want to encourage your child to achieve their goals, then create smaller tasks that teach them the value of finishing something. For example, start and complete an arts and crafts project or game together to show your little one the value of finishing what they start. Then, slowly work your way up to the big goal. Maybe that’s cleaning their room without unnecessary detours or finishing their homework on time. FINALLY, CELEBRATE! This is important. Acknowledge the wins that both you and your child have throughout the year. For example, if they want to be a better reader, celebrate whenever they finish a book. This will encourage them to keep going. And even if they do fail, honor their effort. Remind them that putting in the effort, regardless of the outcome, is powerful, too.

START BY SHARING YOUR GOALS. Without even realizing it, children often mimic the actions of the adults around them. So, share your goals with your child, and explain how you plan to achieve these goals. Then ask your child to do the same. It can be as big as moving up three grade levels in reading or as small as beating a video game. Foster these ideas within your child so they will set one of their goals and have a positive experience when they achieve it. CREATE NEXT STEPS TOGETHER. If you want to have more energy in the new year, what steps will you take to achieve that goal? Ask your child to consider the same question in regard to their objectives. If their goal is to finish a certain video game, how will they improve their current game play? What can they do to earn more video game time? Are there learning tools that can help them accomplish this? Teach them that achieving a goal is about so much more than desire; you have to put in the work to accomplish it, too!

YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION ZANTAC CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE CANCER

Zantac is one of the most popular over-the-counter medications in the country — with millions of people using it to relieve heartburn symptoms and chest pain. However, it’s also a potential cancer risk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a recall of Zantac along with all other medications using its active ingredient, ranitidine. This recall follows new research concluding

conditions have been linked to the use of Zantac, such as hepatitis, cardiac arrhythmia, skin rashes, hair loss, and reduced platelet levels.

Millions of people have used Zantac for years — oblivious to the risks — and some users are now suffering from cancer that the drug may have caused. Zantac’s manufacturer, Sanofi, was responsible for ensuring that their customers wouldn’t suffer injuries from using their product, and they failed to meet that responsibility. At this time, we don’t know how long this dangerous chemical has been contaminating a product that millions of people use every day. Nor do we know how many people have suffered severe health problems as a result. Justice and financial compensation could be within reach if you or a loved one were diagnosed with cancer after using Zantac. Call DeWitt Law Firm today for a free consultation. You don’t pay anything unless we win your case.

that the ranitidine found in Zantac was too often contaminated by N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a chemical classified as a probable carcinogen by the FDA, Environmental Protection Agency, and the World Health Organization. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NDMA has been linked to a variety of diseases, including severe liver disease, liver cancer, brain cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, and lung cancer. In addition to people being diagnosed with cancer, they have also been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). At least 20 other medical

Introducing Our Newest Attorney: Ed Emrick

At DeWitt Law Firm, we pride ourselves on gathering the best talent possible to better serve the citizens of Central Florida. We want each of our attorneys to take every possible opportunity to go above and beyond for our clients. That being said, we’re excited to announce that we have added another attorney to our team! Ed Emrick has only been with our team for a few months, but he has already proven himself to be a valued marital and family law specialist. Ed had dreams of becoming a lawyer from the age of 12, and he planned his life and education around becoming one. In fact, Ed would go on to attend the University of Florida for both his undergraduate degree and law school. Ed considers himself to be assertive, direct, and highly competitive, but his philosophy with respect to family law cases is based upon realistic expectations of the probable outcomes of litigation and a cost-benefit analysis of each decision made during these cases. For the past six years, he has primarily

practiced family law cases and has worked through some complex and contentious situations for his clients. Remaining steady throughout, he is empathetic, patient, and understanding with his clients. Ed has litigated several cases to the fullest extent, with trials, motion hearings, expert witnesses, complex discovery issues, and even civil lawsuits within the divorce action. However, Ed finds it equally as important to provide people with all of the options available to them, both in litigation and in obtaining potential resolutions, and will provide a practical analysis of whether or not it makes sense to spend time and money on litigation. When Ed is not in the office, he is usually spending time with his two young children and his wonderful wife, traveling or just watching football. He is excited about the opportunity to help his clients and will do everything in his power to get you what you deserve. Give our office a call today to schedule a consultation.

Why Do Your Ears Pop on Flights?

4

AIRPLANE EARS THE SCIENCE BEHIND YOUR EARS POPPING ON FLIGHTS

When it comes to flying on an airplane, you can avoid cramped legs by upgrading to first class or catch a view by picking the window seat. However, there’s no getting around your ears popping during takeoff and landing. Believe it or not, there is a scientific explanation behind this common annoyance. As you read this, you’re likely not on an airplane, and the air pressure on either side of your eardrums is equal. Air is currently passing right on through your eustachian tube, a narrow passage that leads from your middle ear cavity to your pharynx and allows for pressure to be equalized on each side of your eardrums. When you’re in flight on an airplane, air pressure is not equal. During both ascent and descent, your eardrums stretch to try to adapt to the changes. In order to equalize the pressure, your eustachian tube needs to open and close. When it does, your ears pop! Usually, the ear popping is irritating but nothing more. However, in rare cases, the pressure can lead to ear pain and even loss in hearing, especially if your ears don’t pop. In this case, you may need to make an effort to get your eustachian tube to open by yawning, talking, or swallowing. Sucking on a piece of candy, swallowing some water, or chewing gum may also help! One of the best things you can do is make sure you are not sleeping as the

airplane takes off or lands because your eustachian tube isn’t able to open and close normally. If you commonly struggle with congestion or sore ears on flights, taking a nasal decongestant before you board may ensure that your eustachian tube is not blocked. If your hearing and ears do not return to normal shortly after the flight, be sure to schedule an appointment to see your health care professional as soon as possible.
