Dog Days of Summer

Whew, it’s hot out there! Did you know that this time of year is called the dog days of summer? Apparently, the ancient Egyptians and Romans noticed that Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, was extra bright this time of year, and they believed it was responsible for the extra heat. I had no idea. I just thought dog days had to do with the phrase,“sweatin’ like a dawg,” that I often say when it’s really hot out. Even though these are some of the hottest days of the summer, this is also the time of year when I’m able to spend some extra time outdoors with my buddy, Mac. Mac is a loyal friend. He’s always there. Mac may not be responsible for causing heat waves, but he certainly does get people’s attention. He’s a loyal shepherd mix who loves to be close to me and my kids,

and he certainly lives up to his breed’s name. Any time we’re out walking with him and one of us wanders away from the group, Mac stops, turns around, and refuses to continue until we’re all together again. It’s like he’s shepherding and protecting his extended family, and he never allows too much distance between us! People who see him do this think it’s pretty funny, and we always get a lot of laughs. But mostly, it warms our hearts to know what a loyal and devoted friend we have in Mac. Similarly, we’d like you to feel our loyalty, care, and concern for you. It’s important to us that we stay in touch with each other, which is why you’re receiving these mailers and getting occasional phone calls from us.We value you all as integral members of our extended family and pledge to always keep a watchful eye out for what’s in your best interest.

before and are now closed off to anything that could possibly bring them close to that kind of risk again, or they may merely lack the knowledge to be aware of other beneficial options. In a real estate transaction, so much attention is put on sales price, but that is only one of many critical terms to be addressed. In fact, a standard purchase agreement has 10- plus pages filled with dozens of important additional terms often overlooked by real estate agents who lack creativity or a willingness to invest sufficient time to ensure that the entirety of the agreement is in their client’s best interest. A professional hired to help negotiate an agreement must be knowledgeable and experienced at being creative in finding benefits to each party. And, when those benefits are discovered, they must be skillfully expressed in writing, so all parties easily see the benefits and protection provided.

Seeing Double partnership, or settlement. I’ve found that many people taking part in a proposed agreement (and biased with emotion) fail to realize that various terms may be open for negotiation. Words like “no,”“never,”“must,”“required,”“all,”“only,” minimum,”“maximum,” and “won’t budge” are often used in a proposal to deter the other party from suggesting a revision to specific terms. However, those words are, at best, just temporary statements of opinion. I’ve learned firsthand through experience that if handled the right way, a party to an agreement will consider — and agree to — alternatives. First, in responding, tone is very important. Express reason, not adversity. Second, if you want a revision, you must identify and present a clear benefit to the other party. Remember, the other party may have blinders on. They may have been burned

The Laptops of Tomorrow

This summer, the tech world took another step toward creating the omnifunctional devices that science fiction has been promising us. Multiple big-name computer companies have unveiled their spin on the latest design craze: folding display laptops. The idea of a portable, dual-screen PC seemed like a gimmick a few years ago, but with HP, Intel, and Lenovo all jumping into the game, this may be the future of laptops. Here’s a look at the exciting new designs

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 (Real Name TBA) The most experimental on this list, the teased addition to the ThinkPad line doesn’t have a name yet, let alone a launch date. However, Lenovo feels this mystery model could be the first of an entirely new device that’s neither laptop nor tablet. Mock-ups show a clamshell computer with two nearly seamless displays and no keyboard. Essentially, it’s one big screen that can fold in half. While it’s unclear how users will respond to this laptop-tablet hybrid, it’s certainly an ambitious move from the world’s leading PC company.

The ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo This latest addition to the ZenBook line is an artist’s dream — so long as they have the cash. With two 4K displays, the Pro Duo isn’t cheap, but it may well be the new king of function and fidelity. The crisp, responsive 32:9 touch screen is perfect for sketching with a stylus or arranging video clips on a timeline. Meanwhile, the 15-inch primary display can render your handiwork in all its ultra-high definition glory.

Intel’s Honeycomb Glacier Intel is looking to do the impossible: prove once and for all that laptops can work for hardcore gamers. With a 15.6-inch, 1080p display perched above a 12.3-inch, 1920 x 720 touch screen, users certainly have plenty of real estate to play with. The idea is that the primary screen can be dedicated to actual gameplay, while the touch display can be used for anything from minimaps to Discord chats. Throw in a Tobii eye-tracking camera, and you have the potential for an on-the-go Twitch streaming studio.

Now that season three of the popular Netflix show “Stranger Things” is available, we can all stop holding our breath and start watching. For those who haven’t seen it yet, the show, created by the Duffer Brothers, is an ‘80s throwback centered around a small Indiana town and a group of friends growing up there. As you can deduce from the title, things get strange fairly quickly, beginning with a disappearing kid and signs of a government cover-up. S ummer TV L and 3 T hings Y ou D idn ’ t K now A bout ‘S tranger T hings ’ 1. It’s inspired by the Steven Spielberg (and other) movies we grew up loving. As a show that’s told from a kid’s perspective about a monster terrorizing a town, “Stranger Things” is filled with nods to Spielberg’s movies. There’s the scene that pays homage to “E.T.,” the small-town terror that nods to “Jaws,” and “Goonies” vibes throughout the show. There are other ‘80s movies it pulls from as well, like Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.”Watch for yourself to see if you can recognize some of the influences. 2. Stephen King played a part in casting the show. The famous author not only inspired the series but also helped cast one of the key characters, Eleven, played by Millie Bobbie Brown. King had seen Brown’s acting in another TV show and was impressed. Another one of the show’s characters who appears in season two, Billy, is modeled after Randall Flagg, a recurring antagonist in King’s books. 3. A mysterious government time travel project set the stage for the show. Various references and sources have made mention of the mysterious Montauk Project that’s said to have been a series of experiments that took place on Long Island in the ‘80s, including psychological testing on children. This is the basis for much of the show, including the testing Eleven is subjected to. In fact,“Stranger Things” was originally called “Montauk” before it was changed by producers. For anyone craving a nostalgic summer adventure, and especially for those who want to feel like a kid again, this show is for you. If you’ve already blazed through season three, check out some of the classic ‘80s movies that inspired it. Here are three things you may not know about the beloved series.

The Next Phase of Marvel Movies

What’s Next for Marvel Movies?

For the past 10 years, Marvel movies have delighted families and comic book nerds alike with their memorable characters, incredible action scenes, and sprawling, interconnected storylines. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the story of the Avengers so far, told through 23 movies. Even though this year marked the end of a massive arc that Marvel Studios dubbed “The Infinity Saga,” there are still more movies coming out that will feature everyone’s favorite heroes. Here are a few films coming up next in the MCU. A Black Widow Solo Movie International assassin BlackWidow, played by Scarlett Johansson, was the first female member of the Avengers and made her debut appearance in “Iron Man 2.” She never got her own movie, but Marvel announced recently that a Black Widow movie is officially in the works for the next phase of Marvel movies. Besides the fact that they’ve started filming, there’s not much information about it yet. But for many excited fans, this movie has been a long time coming.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, and the gang are all back in the third installment of this smash-hit franchise.Without getting into too much detail,“Avengers: Endgame” and the post- credits scene of the second “Guardians”movie provided some clues about the plot and possible main villain. Though details are slim,“Vol. 3” is sure to be another rollicking ride through the cosmos. ‘Black Panther 2’ “Black Panther” was immensely popular (it earned nearly $700 billion domestically), and its success removed all doubt that there would be a sequel. Audiences will journey back toWakanda and see the newest adventures of King T’Challa and crew, although not much is known about the plot or the release date as of now. But you can rest assured that the creative minds behind the sequel are taking their time to make it as good as the first. The future storyline of the MCU is up in the air, but, if the previous movies are any indicator, families, fans, and audiences everywhere have a lot to look forward to.
