HEADACHES, WHAT A PAIN IN THE NECK
Headaches can stem from tightness in the neck muscles at the back of the neck, which is brought about by a forward- head posture and rounded back. This is very common if you work at a computer or sit a lot. In this repetitive position the spine can be strained. Try to stand up tall with your back against a wall. How far away from the wall is the back of your head? If you have a forward head posture, your head will be quite a few inches from the wall. The forward head position puts a strain on the neck muscles resulting in general muscle tension in the head. This can affect blood flow to the scalp,
resulting in a headache. Pain can be referred from the neck, behind the eyes or forehead, and even one sided headaches around the temples. Pounding headaches at the back of the head can be very much related to neck muscle tightness and limited movement. Sincemany headaches stem from problems with neck movement and posture, it is wise that you see a muscle and skeletal expert to help you. The specialists at Fritz Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine have years of medical training evaluating neck and headache problems. EASY IRISH FRIED CABBAGE AND BACON
INGREDIENTS •
6 ounces thick bacon + drippings
• • • • • •
½ small onion, diced
½ head green cabbage, shredded
1 tbsp light brown sugar
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
Caitie’s optional add-in: diced kielbasa or andouille chicken sausage, flavor of choice
PHYSICAL THERAPY VS OPIOIDS: WHEN TO CHOOSE PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT INSTRUCTIONS Cook bacon in a deep cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, about 4-6 minutes. Use a slotted spatula to remove the bacon pieces and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Discard excess drippings, leaving the pan greased from the bacon. Add diced onion to pan and cook until translucent, about 1-2 minutes. Add shredded cabbage to pan and toss to coat. Add in sugar, salt, and pepper and cook until cabbage is tender, about 5-7 minutes. Add bacon back to cabbage and cook another 2-3 minutes. Serve hot and season with additional salt and pepper if desired. Notes: brown sugar can be left out if desired. Optional add-ins include: roasted or steamed vegetables of choice, desired meat, or even toasted nuts or dried fruit.
The use of prescription painmedications, known as opioids, is under more scrutiny than ever before due to a rise in opioid abuse. In an effort to fight against what has been called an “opioid epidemic,” the Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) has been urging doctors to recommend other effective solutions
for pain like Physical Therapy. The best part is that Fritz Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine is safe and natural, and does not have any harmful side effects. It not only fixes painful problems, but it avoids other more serious medical conditions and prevents your painful problem from worsening, all of which take more time and money to address.
