RELIEF FOR JAW, NECK, FACE, & EAR PAIN

Do you suffer from jaw pain, headaches, neck pain, painful chewing, or clicking and popping in your jaw? These could all be signs and symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, or TMD. Your specialist will call these Craniofascial Pain Disorders. The temporomandibular joint is located where your jaw meets your skull. It is one of the most complex joints in the body and can be affected by neck and head position, eating or chewing certain ways, habitual postures or positions, and repeated or direct trauma. It is also often associated with stress and poor sleep habits, including grinding or clenching of the teeth. Grinding the teeth or clenching the jaw during sleep are common causes of Craniofascial Pain and your dentist might be the first person to make you aware that you have this syndrome. Other symptoms of Craniofascial Pain may include neck pain, ear ache or pressure, aching of the face, or jaw, or even pain in the teeth. What Causes TMJ Syndrome? Multiple factors contribute to the development muscle pain and tightness and joint dysfunctions that characterize this condition. Most often, poor posture and neck alignment change the pull of the muscles that make your jaw move. This causes abnormal motion and irritation of the TMJ. Other causes may include: • Poor alignment of or trauma to the teeth or jaw • Teeth grinding • Poor posture • Arthritis or other inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders • Excessive gum chewing • Stress

A lot can be done to help Craniofascial Pain Syndromes, starting with a thorough evaluation of your problemwith our expert physical therapists. Once the root cause of your problemhas been discovered, a comprehensive plan can be developed to quickly relieve your pain and restore natural movement to your TMJ. Furthermore, our physical therapists will teach you techniques for regaining normal jaw movement for long lasting results. The focus of Physical Therapy for TMD is relaxation, gentle movement, joint mobility and releasing tight muscles as well as very specific strengthening. In most cases, Physical Therapy can resolve TMD and surgery can be avoided in nearly all cases. FUN & GAMES

Notes2Neighbors

Notes2neighbors was our opportunity to give back during National Physical Therapy Month. We would love some continued help to

write an uplifting message, joke, a doodle with a smile on our fun notecards. You will find them at each clinic. We will deliver them to our partner meals on wheels so they can be distributed to some of our more vulnerable neighbors and spread some joy.

YOUR HEALTH MATTERS TO US! When you visit us, our team is committed to helping you feel confident that you are in good hands. As your health and wellbeing is our priority, we are: • Screening all staff before starting their shift. • Screening all patients upon arriving at the clinic. • Requiring that all patients wear a face covering and all of our staff are wearing a face mask. • Asking that clients remain in their car until their appointment time. • Requesting all visitors to use the hand sanitization station at entry. • Our clinic’s cleaning standards align with or far exceed prescribed CDC Universal precautions for healthcare facilities and include: disinfection of pens, phones, computers, surfaces, and door handles regularly. Hand washing, as well as equipment and treatment table cleaning, is a typical routine before and/or after EACH client interaction. • We have adjusted how we schedule team members and clients to control volume safely. • We are also offering Telehealth for those who wish to continue physical therapy treatments at home and not lose progress.
