Welcome to my very first newsletter, I must confess that I thought long and hard about the idea because there is already a great deal of ‘noise’ out there, and I certainly did not want to add to it just for the sake of doing something. It has however, been a time of great change and I took the view that I could get some important messages out to my clients and friends, a quick way for you to keep up to date with what’s happening, in a format that you might find easy to share with your colleagues and contacts. Whether it becomes a regular feature or not is entirely down to the response so please let me know what you think. Of course if you have any questions, the best way for me to answer them is in person on the telephone or via email, I’m always happy to help so just give me a shout if you have an enquiry.

Eating well is a big part of staying well, what are your tips for sustaining a healthy, balanced diet? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Lockdown diary There’s not much I can add to the many millions of words that have been written about ‘the current situation’, certainly nothing original. Of course it’s been tricky and of course we all need to remain vigilant as we enter what is hopefully, the beginning of the end with the arrival of mass vaccination. Keeping fit and healthy is pretty much what we are all about, after all Vitality Life policies reward healthy living so it’s inevitable that we focus on maintaining levels of fitness and general wellbeing. I have rediscovered my love of golf, I joined a club and managed a few decent rounds before lockdown, the handicap hasn’t moved much lately as it’s been mainly practice since the restrictions kicked-in, but half an hour in the park with a 9 iron does wonders for the back! One other pursuit that I have been really enjoying is walking, it’s great exercise, entirely socially acceptable, wonderful for focussing the mind and even better…it’s completely free!

Guildford Walkfest

As mentioned in this newsletter, I am committed to promoting walking as a superb form of exercise and what seems like light years ago (it was actually September last year), I sponsored the Guildford Walkfest. The festival of walking takes place over an entire month with guided walks in and around Guildford and the surrounding areas, including the stunning Surrey Hills. This photo shows the launch, we are very much looking forward to supporting Walkfest 2021 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in organising the event and all the walk leaders for their efforts.

Charity – As many of you will know, I operate a referral scheme for introductions to family and friends of clients, to date it has always been a voucher or similar from a Vitality partner but having given the matter some thought I have decided to offer a change. Any successful introduction to a new client will be rewarded with a cash donation in your name to a charity of your choosing. If you don’t have a favourite good cause it can either go to our chosen charity, which is GUTS based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, or you can still choose the voucher, either for yourself or for a family member or friend. So now you have a choice, a voucher for you or a friend, or a contribution to a great cause. The process involves a self-taken blood test, and again your health care advisor will guide you through this simple procedure over a video call. The Annual Health Check is one of the many benefits of membership, keeping an eye on your general health is so important to you, and us.

Vitality cover helps you to pro-actively manage your health, and key to this is your annual health check. As a policy holder, you should by now have received notification from Vitality but I just wanted to quickly touch on the process. You can book your virtual appointment via the member zone, the consultation will be over a secure video link with one of their health care professionals and they will guide you through the check. Ahead of the check, you will receive a home testing kit delivered by Bluecrest, the kit contains everything you need to measure your cholesterol, glucose and BMI, you will also be asked about your height and weight. It’s really not like me to toot my own horn but this is my newsletter and I can think of no better place to start ‘bigging myself up’ as I am sure the youngsters used to say?
