On Wednesday 26th July ELAS sponsored the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce ‘Tasty Networking Event’ at Australasia in the city centre. The event was attended by businesses that supply the food business industry as well as a number of restaurant and hotel owners from in and around Manchester Attendees enjoyed drinks and canapés whilst listening to Annabel Kyle presenting on the recent FSA changes.

Miriam Payne, who won an Emmy award in the States for her work as foreign news editor at NBC, is publishing A Greyt Christmas Tail. The book, which tells the story of the night Santa’s sleigh crashes in the back garden and the two dogs have to volunteer to help deliver all the presents, was inspired by the sight of her lurcher Ramsey and greyhound Blue wearing festive elf outfits. An employment tribunal has awarded a woman £50,000 compensation after her former employers accused her of not doing ‘a single day’s work’ while she underwent treatment for breast cancer. Eimear Coghlan, 34, was initially treated with “sympathy and concern” by her boss, Poonam Dhawan-Leach, chief executive of The Hideaways Club in Kensington, however their professional relationship struggled when Ms. Coghlan needed to go for regular medical appointments.

If employees are unable to work because of illness, whether that’s physical or mental, then the normal rules of sickness absence according to the organisation should kick in, according to ELAS Group’s Pam Rogerson.
