MEET THE KINETIC PT FAMILY HAPPY LABOR DAY TO MY AMAZING TEAM!

When a new patient starts making appointments with me, I get to surprise them twice. The first shocker comes when they realize I work side-by-side with my wife, Emilie. Usually they turn to me with huge eyes and ask, “How can you work with your

When she started with us she was young enough that she put me down as a reference while buying her first car. Now, she’s married! We got to attend her wedding and watch as she and her husband bought a house and had two kids. It has been an awesome journey.

t

wife? Don’t you get sick of each other?” (Spoiler alert: The answer is “no.”) Once I’ve laughed off that concern, the next bombshell drops. Our amazing office manager, Peggy, is my mom!

After Amada came Sharon, our part- time office administrator. If you’ve ever gotten a piece of mail from our clinic apart from this newsletter, she’s the one who sent it to you. She also hangs our testimonials, and without her green thumb, we wouldn’t have a single living plant in our building. (She has even managed to maintain a plant we got the day we opened!)

Yep, that’s right — Kinetic PT Specialists is truly a family business. I’ve been thinking about that a lot this month because Labor Day is coming up. It’s a real privilege to have my family literally on my team, and even the people in the office who aren’t related to me might as well be family. There are seven of us, including myself, Emilie, Peggy, Amanda, Sharon, Chris, and Emery. It’s about time you met everyone. Working with my family has always been easy for me. Emilie and I do a good job of separating our work and home lives, and it’s actually nice to talk with someone about work who really gets it. My mom, Peggy, is our longest-serving employee. She has been with us for nine years and is a real godsend. She manages the office, does the billing, and keeps us all organized and on track. I know what you’re thinking, but honestly, our lives are nothing like a reality show. There’s no family drama going on here. If anyone tried to film us, we’d put viewers to sleep! A year after my mom came on board, we found Amanda. She was the first physical therapist we hired, and she has grown tremendously in the last eight years, both as a therapist and as a person.

Chris, our receptionist, and Emery, our fourth PT, have both been with us for about two years. Chris is the one who answers our phone and greets patients when they come in, so you’ve probably met her and fallen in love with her bubbly, goofy personality just like we did. She loves talking to patients almost as much as she adores her little weiner dog. Emery is the opposite of Chris in a lot of ways. He’s a quiet guy, but every once in a while, he delivers a little one-liner that cracks me up. He also has a gigantic collection of tennis shoes. If you’ve never asked him about his shoes, definitely do it next time you come in. Emilie, Peggy, Amanda, Sharon, Chris, and Emery are my family, and without them, Kinetic PT Specialists wouldn’t be where it is today. If you stop by for an appointment this month, wish them a happy Labor Day with me! They deserve it. –Mike Ulmer

Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, but because its symptoms usually pop up and then disappear, it can often fly under the radar. The Mayo Clinic has a great explanation for how it works: “Your plantar fascia is in the shape of a bowstring, supporting the arch of your foot and absorbing shock when you walk. Plantar fasciitis can develop for a number of reasons. Long-distance running, ballet, and aerobics all put a lot of weight and stress on the heels of your feet and can cause the condition over time.
