Landmark Ledger A Life Conference Stepping Away to Attend the 10x Growth Conference 3

(949) 260-4770 Professional | Experienced | Licensed Expert IRS & State Tax Relief

March 2019

If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my many years of helping people find solutions for the back taxes they owe, it’s that every situation is

professionals, but this year, Cardone and his associates took their motivational conference to the next level.

This year, I joined 35,000 other people at Marlins Park and heard from worldwide leaders like Spanx founder and CEO Sara Blakely, Shark Tank star and FUBU founder Daymond John, entrepreneur and TV star Bethenny Frankel, and comedian and television host Steve Harvey. This opportunity allowed business owners, leaders, and aspiring professionals an insider view into some of the world’s most successful people. What’s even better is that this conference always feels personal, despite the massive quantities of people that flood into it. I’ve gained new relationships and contacts at this conference, and I coordinated with a group of experts from across the country to meet up and engage in thoughtful conversations. While at the conference, I was able to learn from industry leaders, and I’ve gained more knowledge in my conversations with peers across the nation. Together we learned some of the best practices for more effectively helping clients, while also acting as a sounding board for fellow tax-industry experts. Since my services are available to clients from all over the U.S., speaking with other tax and business professionals from throughout the country allows me and Landmark Tax Group to be better prepared to serve our clients. Furthermore, it’s a step toward offering my clients more than just tax relief. Since starting my tax firm in 2012, I always wanted to be their go-to source in finding a solution to the overwhelming weight of back-to-back debt, but that means I need to continue to strive to do more than just meet the standards the IRS requires of a licensed tax professional. My clients deserve someone who’s willing to take it to that personal level; I will continue to be that person who does.

unique. Even when I was working for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), I saw firsthand the varying circumstances that have led people to debt. Some are victims to situations beyond their control; others have dug a hole that feels too deep to crawl out of. Then there are those in denial, ignoring the ever-growing chasm of debt. Regardless of how they got there, I’m not afraid to step in and help someone the best I can. I have the knowledge and experience to help people land back on their feet, prepared and capable of avoiding the same situation in the future. But to get to that point, experts like myself have to keep getting better. Tax laws, relief programs, and the demands of our clients change frequently, and if we’re not prepared for these updates, we could wind up creating more heartbreak, debt, and complications for the people we promised to help. This February, I took some time away from my business and my family to continue my education and training at Grant Cardone’s 10x Growth Conference 3 in Miami, Florida. This engaging conference encourages success at a variety of professional and personal levels, transforming a series of business-related educational sessions into a life conference. I attended Cardone’s conference last year in Las Vegas along with 9,000 other eager entrepreneurs and business

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t have to mean heading to the local Irish bar and drinking a large green beverage. If you’re not interested in going out this year and would prefer to do something at home with the family, here are a few ways everyone can celebrate. Family-Friendly Activities

You can also watch videos of Irish dance performances and encourage the kids to make their own. There’s also fascinating history on St. Patrick and why he became the patron of the holiday that your family members can research together. If you have Irish roots, tell your kids about your heritage.

Irish-Themed Food What better way to get festive than by making some St. Patrick’s Day- themed dishes? You can make rainbow cupcakes, green cookies, St. Patrick’s Day popcorn, or — for a more traditional dish — Irish soda bread. You can also cook up an array of greens for dinner on March 17, which could include Brussels sprouts, spinach, cucumbers, green beans, peas, or asparagus. A Mischievous Leprechaun To treat your kids to a fun game, leave green footprints around the house and participate in impish tricks! Empty a tissue box, hide the remote, swap out regular light bulbs with green ones, or draw rainbows on the windows. You’re only limited by your imagination. Exploring Irish Culture Another way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your family is to sit down and read about Irish culture with your kids. Learn where the legend of the leprechaun came from or read other stories from Irish folklore.

Watch Irish Movies For a relaxing activity, settle down in front of the TV for a movie night filled with films related to Irish culture. Try “The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns,” “Song of the Sea,” “The Luck of the Irish,” or “The Secret of Kells.” Make an Impact Teach your kids how to be “greener” this month by doing more for the environment. Discuss ways to save energy and water in the home, and talk about the importance of taking a break from electronics and enjoying the outdoors. This list is not exhaustive by any means, but it’s a good start to get your family to create new ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. You might even create family traditions that will last for years to come.

Tax Gaffes Common Mistakes to Avoid This Tax Season

Last month we gave you three tips to avoid angering the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) this tax season, but do you know how to avoid common tax mistakes? We’ve got you covered there, too! Numerical Errors Mathematical miscalculations are one of the most common tax mistakes, prompting a significant amount of IRS audits. Additionally, taxpayers often make computation errors, which are mistakes made specifically to income, withholdings, estimated tax payments, and write-offs. While mathematical mistakes include calculation errors, computation errors are commonly made when the taxpayer doesn’t know an exact total and inputs a wrong number. This can also happen to those who forget to report all their income, including freelance work. Using calculation software can minimize numerical errors and decrease guesswork by collecting documents, receipts, and files throughout the year. Personal Errors As humans, we’re bound to make mistakes, and that can even mean spelling our name wrong. The IRS uses your name and Social Security number to process your taxes, so if you spell your name, your spouse’s name, or your children’s names wrong, you slow the process down.

Furthermore, accounting for your life changes will make your tax filing simpler.

Maybe you moved across the country or got hitched in 2018. These are changes to your life that will impact your taxes in ways you may not be familiar with. The IRS has helpful reading guides to walk you through these kinds of changes. Believing Scammers When you owe back taxes to the IRS, you may be desperate to find a solution and some relief. Unfortunately, scammers know this, and they will use it to swindle you out of more money. These scammers will claim to help you eliminate or settle your tax debt while you funnel cash into their fraudulent operations and fall further into debt. This season, don’t fall for the hype. Find a credible source to help you alleviate your back-tax troubles. If you’ve made one or more of these mistakes and are in need of tax relief, Landmark Tax Group has the experience and expertise to help you. Get started by visiting LandmarkTaxGroup.com/FreeHelp.

Set Sail for Vacation If you’re lucky enough to have been aboard a ship under full sail, chances are you know the thrill and serenity Take Your Next Trip Offshore

whether you’re in a 12-foot dinghy or a 60-foot sloop, the same basic principles, rules, and skills apply.

sailing can give you. If you’ve never been but have always wanted to know what it’s like to get out on the wind and waves, there are many great options available for beginners. Here are some ideas to inspire your next waterside vacation.

Take a Day Sail

Many day-sail charters exist for those who want to go out a little farther than a dinghy would permit. If you’ve captained a boat and are familiar with the waters, you can apply for a bareboat charter. However, if you are inexperienced or simply don’t want a local guide at the helm, signing up for a day trip with a skipper and crew is a great option.

Start Small

For those who dream of becoming a skipper one day, a great way to start is by sailing dinghies. These one-sail, beach-launch boats fit 1–2 people and can be rented at most water sports shops. If you want to make it a family experience, shops usually have 16-foot catamarans for rent as well. Catamarans have two hulls rather than one, making for a smoother, more spacious ride. If you’ve never sailed before, inquire about lessons. Most rental operations have instructors on hand who can show you the ropes. The great thing about sailing is that

Do a Full Charter

Short of owning your own vessel, chartering a boat for multiple nights is the closest you can get to living out your nautical dreams. Some of the most beautiful destinations on earth — from the Caribbean Sea to the Mediterranean — are best experienced from the deck of a sailboat. Letting the sea guide you to amazing snorkeling destinations, remote cays, and bustling harbors is the stuff of real adventure.
