A simple way to define architecture is 'function with artistic form' and there is nowhere that the combination of these two elements is more important than the space in which you live – your home! I’ve always been drawn to art and the way it can be used to express so much more than a visual representation of an object. Art is a feeling, an expression of ideas and a way to connect with the world around us. I was an artist long before I became an architect, and it was during this time I developed my understanding of space, scale and proportion in three dimensional form – all of which is fundamental to the way I now adapt my artistic spirit to designing homes for families. The enjoyment I’ve always felt in spending time in the country sketching and hand drawing has provided me with inspiration to create designs capturing fluid spaces that are so important in a beautiful, functional home. It’s this sense of ease with space that drives designs full of special areas that flow seamlessly and relate to each other, all the while being sufficiently flexible to adapt and evolve with the changing needs of a growing family. This design principle is at the very heart of every McDonald Jones home, and nowhere more so than in our Country Living homes. The Bronte was the first design I created for McDonald Jones, some 15 years ago. Today, its timeless beauty, function and flow are inherent to the love families have for living in the design, which remains as relevant now as it was when it was first created. McDonald Jones Country Living collection of homes are the focal point for a full, happy and nurturing family life that will always be well lived.
