Lobsterfest !

The Bretthauers Were Busy This Summer! Link from EAA Oshkosh Thursday: Neil and Vicki Bretthauer attend the EAA Spirit of Aviation 50 th Anniversary in Oshkosh WI on July 24-25. The Captain on the 747-800 aircraft in the attached link is their son Eric. The wing span of this aircraft is 225 feet, nose to tail is 250 feet, Max takeoff weight is 985,000 pounds. It holds 59,000 gallons of fuel fully loaded. It was EAA Women’s Day at Oshkosh on Wednesday so Eric had some younger female fans who wanted him to autograph pictures of the 747. By Ellie Everitt Happy Hour and Dinner for Summer Trivia were held in the Harbour Room. We had a small crowd at this event -- only 19 people at three tables. Guests drew table numbers as they entered the Harbour Room. Spouses did not sit together which made for a great mixer. Dinner was served while we played Trivia. Chef Bob prepared a set meal that included Baked Brie in Pastry with Baby Greens, Chicken Cordon Bleu with French Beans and Scalloped Potatoes, and Lemon Meringue Pie. Dave and I hosted the event with three rounds, each with 15 questions: • Round #1 questions were about Movie Trivia • Round #2 questions were about TV Trivia • Round #3 questions dealt with General Trivia Table #3 won all three rounds of questions and the grand prize. Winners at the table included: Robert Colangelo, Carol Comeaux, Geoff Fahringer, Angela Holt, Linda Spell, and Tom Wentworth.

Now, any and all Members can dine together and have a good time without any previous arrangements or group invitation, except for a reservation of course! And for singles and new members, it is even better news!

So, are you thinking of coming to dinner, but don't have previous plans? Just make a reservation and ask to be seated at the “ Open Table!”

MIYC Member Events By Angela Holt

The summer calendar is filled with activities for Members who live on Marco Island and those who pay us a visit during the months of June, July and August. Reciprocals have also gotten the word that MIYC is the place to be for fun and fine dining. Independence Day was held on June 29 with a group of more than 80 rockin' to the tunes of Omar Baker and partaking in an awesome summer buffet complete with ribs, chicken, and the old-fashioned picnic items of brats and burgers. Chef Bob made it a special event. Pam and staff decorated the Harbour Room with an All-American red, white and blue theme. Cooking with Chef Bob was another delicious event coupled with a tutorial about healthy foods and safe preparation. These special dinners and lunches will continue throughout the year. If there is a subject matter that you would like to have Chef focus on, give him a call. He likes to hear from his Members. The special theme nights on Saturday evenings have been popular. Italian Night, Bastille Night and Jambalaya pleased the diners and the reciprocals. Check each week for the dinner menu offerings and

bring your friends for a different dining treat. Margaritaville Party on July 20 is one of our favorite tributes to Jimmy Buffett. Nevada Smith entertained the crowd dressed in their casual island style. The menu featured tacos, pizza and sliders, short ribs and grouper. The meal was

topped off with key lime pie. The Harbour Room was decorated to reflect the mood, and Margaritas were the drink of the night. Plans are in the works for Trivia and Hot Summer Nights Latin dancing in the weeks ahead. Summertime is fun time at the MIYC!

At the July Boaters’ Night, Alan Sandlin spoke about the Marco Island History Museum. The Marco Cat has recently been returned. If you have not visited the museum, make a point to go soon. It is world class. Consider a Membership!

Marco Island Yacht Club Sailing Center We have had classes from June 10th though August 2 nd and had a total of 51 students take the classes in both Beginner and Intermediate! We also had a number of students come back and take additional training along with 3 students we gave private classes to. Our partnership with Marco Island Community Sailing Center and particularly Rocky Cale has been wonderful! His dedication not only to the program, but to the children is great to see! It has been a pleasure to work along side him! The next programs we hope to have up and running will be a Saturday morning racing program for advanced Opti sailors through the beginning of December. We also plan on a Fall High School Sailing Program with students in 420’s. Adult sailing lessons are still in the works, but should be up and running by Season. I want to particularly thank Dave Everitt for all his efforts in dealing with the City to finalize the lease and all the legalities involved. Without his support, we could not have this program running! I also want to thank Bob DeFoe for his efforts in setting up our administration program and Tina our receptionist for all her time inputting all the applications into our >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11 Page 12 Page 13 Page 14 Page 15 Page 16 Page 17 Page 18 Page 19 Page 20 Page 21 Page 22 Page 23 Page 24 Page 25 Page 26 Page 27 Page 28 Page 29 Page 30 Page 31 Page 32 Page 33 Page 34 Page 35 Page 36 Page 37 Page 38 Page 39 Page 40 Page 41 Page 42
