SINCE 1933 LY NCHBU RG , VA – – Leather and travel have been our story for 87 years. We know from experience that the best leathers come from skilled hands and a keen imagination. The artisan tanners we work alongside are heirs to generations of expertise. We believe in preserving the details that give natural leather its beauty. Together with our timeless design and craftsmanship, every item in this catalogue will endure.
I think the term “home” probably has newmeaning for everyone these days. Before, for our family, it seemed more like a command center that tracked the comings and goings from school, athletic practices, work, travel and other activities. But for these last eight months it has become our refuge, a place to slow down, gather together, enjoy family dinners and have reverence for things previously taken for granted. For our Fall catalogue shoot, we stayed close to home and found amazing locations right around the corner. We were fortunate to have a close network of family, relatives and friends open their doors to us. My sister-in-law Hellen Carrington and her husband, Billy, graciously offered their beautiful country home in Bedford County; my cousin and neighbor, Matt Sackett, and his wife Cathy, made their home up the street available for a small gathering of friends. And one of my oldest friends and college roommate, Allen Cunningham (pictured above), and his wife, Pati, invited us to their rural retreat, Millbank, in the foothills of Afton Mountain for two full days. Their dog, Willa, proved to be our top model as you can see on page 41. We are so thankful for everyone’s generosity. I know when I look back on this “moment in time” one day, I will remember and be grateful for the opportunity to be at home with family. Not Surprisingly, our Fall catalogue has more of a home focus this season and offers some exciting new additions that will make your home even more a place of refuge and comfort.

We worked for over a year with artisans in North Carolina to create a companion collection for our well-tailored 33 Chair. The goal was larger pieces that were substantial without being monumental additions to a room. The resulting Traynham Club Chair is a commanding presence. Neither overstuffed nor bulky, this collection features reinforced frames made of kiln-dried maple and walnut; well-cushioned seats; and a generous measure of Italian leather.

OldWorldTanning, aModernLook Our Modern Saddle leather is produced in a small Tuscan tannery that possesses the artisanal skills and old-world knowledge necessary for vegetable tanning. Without the addition of chemicals to set the dyes, the vegetable tanning process never truly ends. You will notice as you use your furniture or bag that the leather will begin to patina, gradually darkening as it’s exposed to the sun, the natural oils in your hands, and the bumps and scrapes of everyday use. Over the course of its life, you can expect Modern Saddle to evolve from its initial golden color into a darker, richer shade of caramel. This is a process we want you to be aware of and revel in as the piece grows more beautiful with age and becomes even more unique to you.
