Message from the President by Mike Burton, President, Board of Governors

I hope you all enjoyed the month of October at Seven Oaks. As we prepare

and is still under way with the addition to a new restroom facility. We completed the renovation of our Oak Room dining room and our Grand Ballroom, and they both look outstanding. Our two new pickle ball courts were recently opened up for play and the final touches of that project are almost complete. In addition, we are upgrading the tennis/fitness bathrooms, tennis courts and adjacent areas. We continue to focus on improve- ments for the entire facility, including fitness and swimming facilities. Locker room painting and carpeting are now done in addition to the Golf Shop and restrooms. Our new ADP payroll and HR system was approved and will be implemented in January. Irrigation studies are now underway as we prepare for a long term look at our entire water system. As most of you know, the roofing at all of our facilities is long overdue for a change, so that will be looked at in the upcoming year. In additi- on, preliminary architectural work is under way to provide an overview of our options for both the expansion of the Mixed Grille, in addition to the tennis/fitness facilities.

for our last two months of the calendar year and the holiday season fast approaching, I would like to reflect on our last ten months. I am so very thankful for the private club that we are all members of and the support from all of you. The Board of Directors is committed to creating the finest facility in Kern County, which should be evident in the detail of the abundant recreational and social amenities, along with the impressive quality of the services provided. Thank you again to our wonderful staff of over 120 employees and the leadership of our General Manager and his management team. We’ve accomplished a lot under some very trying conditions throughout the year. In our last board meeting, we reflected on our strategic planning efforts, in addition to the many projects that still remain. As we try to prioritize and budget next year’s plans, I would like to share with all of you what has been completed so far in our current year.

Work was completed on our Lakes 9 greens and bunkers project. Our West 9 project began in June

Manager's Message

by Enrique Contreras, CCM, General Manager/COO

In regard to our other renovations, we have new carpet and paint in the Golf Shop and both the men’s & ladies’ locker rooms. We are in the process of installing new counter tops, mirrors, faucets and shower doors in the bathrooms at the Tennis Pavi- lion and we have added landscaping in the Pickle ball area. Little by little, with the help of the Board of Governors, we are improving the Club.

I’d like to thank all of the members who attended our Journey tribute concert on October 2nd; there was a lot of singing, swaying and dancing! I’d also like to thank those that participated in our Hallo- ween Party - we had a great turnout with 360 mem- bers and guests in attendance. Fun was had by all and I’d like to extend a huge thank you to our staff, for putting this event together for our members! Don’t forget to make reservations for our next big events - Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Novem- ber 25th and The Jingle & Mingle Ladies Holiday Luncheon on Wednesday, December 8th; you can make your reservations with the receptionist at 661- 664-6404. This year the Social Committee has selected Christ- mas for Seniors Kern County as their charity of choice. The Donation Drive will be from November 2nd through December 8th. Their wish list items are various toiletries and $10 gift cards, etc. For a complete list, please check your weekly email blast or pick up a copy of their Wish List at the reception desk. Thank you for all of your support during the closure of the golf course - it is now in perfect condition. Thank you to Tom and his staff for all their hard work!

If you are interested in serving on any committee, please contact Eryn Urban at 661-664-6418.

A reminder, as the year is ending and the holidays are approaching. Members and guests need to ad- here to the Club’s Dress Code: collared shirts are re- quired for men and at no time should a member or guest wear jeans with rips or holes in them. Please pass this along to your guests, to avoid embarrass- ment. Finally, I like would to congratulate our Membership Sales Director Tonya Bower and her husband on the arrival of their first daughter, Dakota Lee, 7 pounds and 4 ounces!

Again, thank you to all our members for your conti- nued support.

See you at the Club!

The Seven Oaks Book Club meets each month to discuss books on a reading list which is selected by mutual consent of the Book Club members. All members of SOCC are invited to attend. Our selection for November is… Takes One to Know One by Susan Isaacs

In thiswhip-smart suburbanmystery from New York Times bestselling author Susan Isaacs, a retired FBI agent turned Long Island housewife taps into her investigative past when she begins to suspect that her neighbor is harboring criminal secrets.

Always sassy, smart, and wickedly witty, Susan Isaacs is at her formidable best in a novel that is both bitingly wry and ominously thrilling. Our next meeting is November 18th at 11:30am at the Club Please email Bee Barmann at [email protected] to receive information on joining the meeting.

What's Cookin' by Corey Dye, Executive Chef

With fall upon us and the cooler weather, I wanted to give everyone a personal favorite of mine. We ran this soup for September's Candleight Dinner and the feedback was fantastic - I hope you enjoy it as well.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

1 butternut squash (about 3 - 4lbs.) 2 large carrots peeled 1 large onion 3 stalks of celery 4 cup chicken stock .5 cup cream 1 tbsp cinnamon .25 cup brown sugar 2 tsp clove powder toasted pumpkin seeds (optional)

Cut the squash in half and rub the meat side with salt and oil and roast in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until soft. Pour the chicken stock into a pot and bring to a boil over medium heat. Cut the vegetables into large chunks and put in a pot with the chicken stock. Simmer until the vegetables are soft. Once the squash is ready, scoop out the meat and put it in the pot with the vegetables. Add the sugar, creamand spices. Puree in a blender, food processor or with a hand blender until desired texture is acheived. Serve with toasted pumpkin seeds, if desired.

PICKLEBALL PADDLE ROTATION & THE 'PICKLEBALL SADDLE'

Scenario: All 4 Pickleball Courts are full and a foursome is now waiting for a court.

Solution: All 4 courts are now part of the Pickleball Paddle Rotation.

The group of 4 who just arrived put their Pickleball paddle into the “Pickleball Saddle”. The first court that finishes their game (up to 11- win by 2) will come off the court and place their pickleball paddle in the Saddle and the foursome waiting for the court now heads over to the open court and plays their game up to 11. At most,a few minutes will pass before another court will open and the foursome waiting will now head over and play. The foursome who just finished puts their paddle in the Pickleball saddle and waitsfor the next open court. During this time, only doubles is allowed, no singles play. If a group comes with 6 players, they will rotate in and out the same as afoursome. Once players leave and there is no waiting, you go back to continuous play without leaving your court.
