THE PERKS OF BEING MY OWN GUINEA PIG BEHIND THE SCENES OF MY FITNESS TRANSFORMATION WITH OH!MINO

worked with the U.S. Army boxing team. If you’ve ever tried curling dumbbells while doing backwards lunges, you’ll have an idea of how hard this workout is! At the time, I only had the powdered version of Oh!mino to test, so I took two scoops of the caffeinated powder before my workout, drank a watered-down version of the stimulant-free variant during, and took a second dose of one or the other post-workout. The weight started falling off. Before the six months was up, I’d dropped more than 20 pounds! The scale said I was down to 196, and my belt said I’d dropped from a 35-inch waist to a 34- inch. I was happy with my new, chiseled look, but I kept going. Then, something even better happened: I started gaining weight even as my waist kept shrinking. As someone in the fitness business, you know that kind of muscle gain is the Holy Grail! At that point, I stopped checking the scale and started measuring my body fat. By the end of month six I was down to 12% body fat and had a 33-inch waist. Today, two years later, I weigh 204 pounds, my body fat percent is still that low (I don’t have abs of steel, but I do have a flat belly), and I’m right in the middle of the 33- and 32-inch holes on my belt. I know a 32-inch waist will happen this fall! I take Oh!mino almost the same way, except that I’ve incorporated the capsule version and take that after workouts and before bed. My fitness routine includes five days a week of yoga and five or six

Hey there friends, it’s Michael again! I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about the science behind our Oh!mino supplements in the last newsletter. This time, as promised, I’m going to fill you in on the step of the journey that came after I discovered NASA’s amino acid formula and created Oh!mino: testing it on myself. When you’re testing out a performance- enhancing supplement that you fully believe in, there are some perks to being your own guinea pig. I knew that the science behind Oh!mino was sound, so when I started taking it in June 2017, two years before our official launch, I felt like it wasn’t a matter of whether my fitness would improve, but how much. I’ll admit, at that point in my life I wasn’t in the best shape. I’ve always been a workout guy, but my body weight and physique at 53 weren’t the same as they were in my prime at 22, and I didn’t hit the gym quite as often. I weighed about 220 pounds and carried it pretty well since I’m 6 feet, 2 inches tall, but if I had to take off my shirt, I definitely would have been embarrassed. On top of that, I’d been diagnosed with diabetes at 45. I was sick of using protein powders packed with sweeteners and other junk. It was bad for me and I knew it. That’s why I was looking forward to trying out Oh!mino — it’s a clean product that’s sugar-free, GMO-free, net carb-free, and vegan. My main workout during those first six months was a circuit training routine that I learned from a personal trainer who

days a week of lifting weights. At 55, I’ve never felt better — and now when I take my shirt off at the pool, I get the good kind of looks! My own transformation felt great, but it was even better to see it duplicated by my friends in all other areas of fitness. The personal trainers, boxers, and Zumba instructors I gave samples to in those early days also had great results, and they wanted Oh!mino for their clients. Together, we tweaked the flavor until it was ready for the market. To learn from one of my customers who found Oh!mino during that next part of the journey, turn to Page 2. I hope you enjoy his perspective, and keep an eye out for our next newsletter — I’ll be back next month with another story to share.

Stay fit, my friend!

HOWOH!MINO HELPED BILL MCMANUS CHANGE HIS LIFE FROMOVERWEIGHT DESK JOCKEY TO FITNESS BUFF

website and decided to try the product. The results blew him away.

The year is 2019. Bill McManus, a software engineer, has just finished the day at his desk job. He’s 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 242 pounds, and 42% body fat. Although he’s brilliant at his work there’s one obstacle that stands in his way: stairs. “I was in really good shape in my teens and 20s, then I pretty much went to the whole other end of the spectrum,” Bill said. “I found myself at 55 and feeling terrible. I couldn’t even go up a flight of stairs. I told myself, ‘It’s time to draw the line, I need to change things now.’” Inspired, Bill put the wheels in motion. He started lifting weights with his son, even though he had trouble keeping up. Because he wanted to lose weight and gain muscle, he added whey protein shakes to his routine. “The problem was the calories. I was taking two or three a day and still fighting to lose weight,” Bill said.

“I had been working out for six or nine months and I’d started hitting brick walls, not being able to make any more gains,” Bill says. “About a month after taking Oh!mino, I started breaking through those walls in bench press and some of my other workouts. I was feeling more energy in the gym, and I had an increase in fat loss.” Bill kept at it, lifting weights 3–4 days a week and doing cardio almost daily. He took the Oh!mino caffeinated powder before each workout, and the stimulant- free version both as a post-workout supplement and protein boost before bed. Within a year, he’d lost 52 pounds, gained more than 10 pounds of muscle, and dropped his body fat to 20%! “I’ve really had some incredible strength gains,” he says. “Now I can keep up with my 26-year-old son pound for pound at the gym!”

AFTER

His wife works out with him now, and his son started Oh!mino this summer. Even his doctor is impressed! “I just had my physical, and my blood work is great for my age,” Bill says. “To those that are just considering Oh!mino, I’d say to remember that you’ve got to take your time. You can't rush things. It takes a while, but if you stay on it you definitely do see the gains.”

That’s when Bill found Oh!mino. He was impressed by the studies on our

DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING

HOW HIIT BENEFITS PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

occurs as people age. Energizing cells through HIIT benefits everyone, but these workouts can be of particular benefit to those over age 65. Seniors experience diminishing returns on energy produced by their bodies at a cellular level, and HIIT has been shown to reverse that process even in advanced age. HIIT workouts also have many other advantages for people of all ages. The exercises don’t necessarily require any equipment, and you can even see results from adding high-intensity intervals to daily walks. Those with health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, can still participate in HIIT. In fact, Healthline reports that HIIT workouts can reduce heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar. However, the biggest draw to HIIT exercises is just how much of a timesaver they are. A few minutes of high-intensity movement can be just as beneficial as roughly 45 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise. You can incorporate HIIT exercises into whatever activities you enjoy, such as walking, cardio exercises, and strength training. If you’re affected by weak joints, you can incorporate HIIT into lower impact exercises, such as swimming or cycling. If you want to feel energized while doing the things you love, then HIIT just might be something you want to try. Just remember to keep a steady pace and don’t overdo it!

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the best ways to burn fat, build muscle, and give yourself a better chance at a longer, healthier life. HIIT workouts are characterized by brief periods (30 seconds to a few minutes) of high-intensity exercise, followed by periods of low- or moderate-intensity exercise. However, what makes these workouts truly remarkable is just how much they can benefit people in every age group. According to Mayo Clinic research, HIIT workouts provide unique benefits to the body on a cellular level. The brief, vigorous exercises actually increase your metabolism and improve the health of mitochondria, the powerhouses that create energy within the cells. By energizing your cells, you can actually reverse the decline in muscle health that

FOODS FOR A FASTER RECOVERY THE NUTRIENTS YOU NEED DURING PHYSICAL THERAPY

containing omega-3 fatty acids do wonders to control inflammation. Plus, our bodies can’t make omega-3 fatty acids naturally, so we have to get them from what we consume. Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish, olive oil, avocados, pecans, walnuts, and almonds.

Attending your physical therapy appointments and doing your at-home exercises as instructed by your PT are crucial parts of your recovery process. However, they’re not the only important steps you should take. What you eat can affect how quickly and well you heal just as much as your dedication to your exercises. By incorporating a few of these foods into your diet, you can heal faster and come back stronger than ever before.

Antioxidant-Rich Fruits and Vegetables

Along with omega-3 fatty acids, the antioxidants from fruits and vegetables can also go a long way in reducing inflammation. Broccoli contains vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folic acid and several different minerals. ( Pro Tip: Cook your broccoli to maximize these nutrients!) Citrus fruits and peppers have high levels of vitamin C, and peppers have high levels of beta-carotene as well. Additionally, turmeric and garlic work wonders during the healing process.

Protein-Rich Meats, Nuts, and Dairy Products

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

When it comes to the proliferation and remodeling stages of healing, healthy sources of protein are the way to go. Lean meats like poultry and fish are easy sources of protein, but if you don’t eat meat, you can also get protein from beans, eggs, nuts, and dairy products. Protein-rich foods will help heal muscles and bones and prevent muscle atrophy. It’s incredible what the body can do with just a few intentionally consumed superfoods! EASY STUFFED SWEET POTATOES

There are three phases to the healing process: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. While you might think that inflammation is a bad thing, it’s actually a normal and necessary part of healing. That said, you should still try to reduce inflammation, as it can be harmful in excess. Foods
