Essential Oils for Pets keep your pet naturally happy and healthy

Essential Oils a better way to care

At the cellular level, there’s not a lot of difference between plants and animals. Essential oils are the immune and defense systems of plants. They have a biochemical structure uniquely symmetrical to cells within the bodies of animals. That’s why they can have such a powerful impact on your pets’ overall wellbeing.

The first pharmacists were animals. Since the beginning of time, animals have had an innate sense for the healing and protective properties of plants. They self-medicate by deliberately seeking out botanicals that prevent or cure discomfort or increase their survival and reproduction. A perfect example is the Starling. These birds deliberately seek out specific aromatic plants and include these botanicals in their nests for the protection of their fragile young. The essential oils in the leaves and grasses stimulate the chicks’ immune systems and provide protection against bacteria. Whether your best friend barks, purrs, or chirps, they can benefit from the power aromatic botanicals found within essential oils. benefits for the entire family Essential oils have been shown to present very low risk and have few negative side effects when used properly. They are a great alternative to over the counter treatments. That being said, there are different methods of application when it comes to caring for your pets with essential oils. Diffusion Making use of a device called a diffuser to spread the aromatic molecules of essential oils throughout the air, diffusing is a safe and easy way to expose essential oils to your pet. There are two main types of diffusers: • Atomizing – Not Preferred Animals, unlike humans, have a much higher and sophisticated sense of smell. Because essential oil particles are more concentrated when using atomizing diffusers, they tend to be irritating to animals’ sensitive systems. • Ultra-Sonic / Vapor – Preferred Less concentrated than atomized oils, the mist of water and essential oil produced by an ultra-sonic diffuser is a safe choice for introducing your pet to the benefits of aromatherapy. It’s also great for making your entire home smell fresh and clean.

Topical Topical use of essential oils is effective and popular. Applying essential oils where you need them for localized effect is a time- tested treatment used for thousands of years to promote health and vitality and is safe for most animals. Example: • Finger Tip – Used to treat a specific localized area on your pet. Apply essential oil to the palm of you hand, use your fingertip to gather the essential oil, and then apply to specific area using a rubbing action. (For all animals.) • Dripping - Used to get essential oil directly into a wound. Apply the essential oil directly to the wound in a dripping fashion. (For all animals.) • Petting – Used for general well-being, protections, and immune support. Apply the essential oils to your hands, rub them together then proceed to petting your pet. (For animals with fine and dense hair, e.g. cats, ferrets, rabbits, gerbils, etc.) • Water Misting - Used with a water bottle to mist the animal . Add essential oil to a water bottle, shake well and spritz your pet. No prior dilution is required for this method simply add 1 drop of essential oil to 4oz of water for small animals and birds or 20-30 drops to 4oz of water for larger animals. (For all animals. Preferred method for exotic and domestic birds.) • Bathing – Use with shampoo, ointment, and other products. Add 1 drop of essential oil to 1 tablespoon of bathing product and use as originally directed. (For all animals.) • Paws and Feet – Use with caution for treating localized issue. Apply essential oil directly to localized area. (For horses, livestock and primates. Do not use on dogs, cats, small and large rodents, or exotic animals.) • Ears – For localized issues only, use misting or additional diluting with caution. Not recommended unless treating issues localized to the ears. When it comes to topical treatments, less is more. Be mindful of your pet and do not over-expose their systems. Carefully monitor how your pet responds. You may need to use more or less essential oil depending on what you perceive. Internal This application of essential oils is safe and effective when used properly as a dietary supplement or a food additive. Because essential oils are so potent only very small amounts for short durations of time are recommended when using as a supplement. There are several ways to use essential oils with your pets. Follow the dilution recommendation on the following pages. Example: • Capsule – Add diluted oil to capsule and give to pet. (Tip: hide the capsule in a piece of food or a treat.) • Lip and Inside Cheek (Preferred method for dogs and horses) – Apply diluted essential oil directly to the lower lip or inside cheek. • Direct Oral Drop (Not recommended for urgent situations) – Drop diluted essential oil directly into the mouth. • Gums – (Great for dogs, goats, sheep, and other small livestock) – Apply diluted essential oil to your finger and rub on the animal’s gums. • Grooming (Preferred for cats) – Pet diluted essential oil onto fur. As the cat grooms essential oil will be ingested. • Adding to Food – Add diluted essential oil to agave, honey or treats. • Toothpick Trick (For reptiles and small mammals/rodents) – Insert toothpick into desired oil and then into food. • Adding to Drinking Water (Preferred for Birds, Reptiles, and Rodents) – Add essential oil to drinking water. See dilution recommendations. Internal use tip: Use 1 drop of diluted essential oil mixture for every 20 lbs. of animal.

Dilution Because essential oils are highly concentrated and potent, it’s important to understand how to dilute when necessary. A good rule of thumb is to use less rather than more. All Be Young essential oils and blends are classified into three categories Neat, Sensitive, and Photosensitive.

• Neat means less or no dilution is necessary (this does not apply to most animals) • Sensitive means dilution or additional dilution is recommended (see instructions below)

• Photosensitive means the essential oil will react (and can cause burns) if exposed to the UV rays of the sun. Photosensitive oils should not be used if direct sun exposure is expected immediately after use or up to 12 hours after application of oil. Photosensitive oils typically only impact fully hairless breeds and albino animals.

The E.O.B.B.D. guarantee Contrary to popular belief there is no governmental agency that currently regulates the purity of essential oils. Terms like Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade, Therapeutic Grade, Medicinal Grade, Grade A, and Pure have no authoritative control over the purity of essential oils. This can be misleading, making the consumer believe they are getting a better quality essential oil that the bottle contains. For this reason, Be Young uses the E.O.B.B.D. Guarantee, an internal stamp of approval and guarantee of purity. This is a promise from us to you. Be Young uses a set of standards established by the International Standardization Organization (ISO) to test for the gold standard in essential oils. Third party laboratories perform all of our testing and we provide transparent results for you to see at any time. In addition, every batch of Be Young Essential Oils begins its quality assurance with two types of analysis: a Gas Chromatograph test and a Mass Spectrum test, the first of several evaluations for purity and quality. We also perform an analysis of the soil of origination to ensure that no harmful chemicals are introduced into the botanicals. These components comprise a multi-stage expert report that guarantees a quality essential oil experience for you and your family every time.

The 7 Stages of Analysis 1. Botanical Definition 2. Confirmation of Producing Organ

3. Extraction Method 4. Physical Analysis 5. Biochemical Analysis 6. Organoleptic Testing 7. Heavy Metal Testing
