DON’T TAKE FREEDOM FOR GRANTED Understanding the Situation in Ukraine

The middle of summer has one of our country’s most important holidays: the Fourth of July. While everyone gets together to enjoy fireworks, grilling, and the company of their family and friends, it’s important to remember the main reason for the holiday. It’s a celebration of our freedom and independence, things we often take for granted. And over the last few months, we have seen the situation between Ukraine and Russia further develop, which has helped remind many of the importance of freedom.

don’t want to work because they don’t earn anything extra. Everything is “free,” but nothing is actually free. Everyone is so corrupt that you have to pay for medical services and education “under the table” to get the help you truly need. The government controls every part of their lives and hates Christianity because it believes in giving the people their individual freedoms. As they continued talking, Gena began discussing the Ukrainian people and their response to the current situation, and his thoughts are powerful. He states that the Ukrainian people

There’s a pastor in Tennessee whose sermons I greatly enjoy listening to named Allen Jackson, (not to be confused with the famous singer). Jackson recently posted a video to his YouTube channel where he was talking to Belarusian pastors Gena and Larisa Kernazhytski about the situation going on in their part of the world. Gena oversees over 20 churches in Ukraine in addition to several Belarusian churches. When Pastor Jackson asked Gena about church life in Belarus, he explained that their authoritarian government has not changed since 1994. They had an election in 2002 and their sitting president lost, but he

have tasted freedom and will never give in to a dictator, communism, or socialism ever again. The Ukrainian people believe they are fighting for everyone, not just themselves. They genuinely believe that Russia will not stop at Ukraine and will continue their advance, even if they wear the Ukrainians down. Ukrainians will fight until they’re dead if that’s what it takes to prevent a return to communism.

Oftentimes, we don’t realize how lucky we have it in America until situations like this occur elsewhere in the world. Freedom is our most valuable asset, and we can’t continue to take it for granted. As Ronald Reagan so famously said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.” So as you celebrate the Fourth of July, think about all of the things you love to do and understand that you get to enjoy them, for now, because you live in a country that was founded on the principles of freedom and individual rights.

refused to give up power. Gena was not in his country when the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, but he was still in contact with his congregations. Groups from different churches got together to pray over the situation, and the police showed up to inform them that congregations from multiple churches could not meet together. This meant the police were monitoring their meetings to ensure multiple congregations weren’t meeting. While continuing their conversation, Jackson questioned the couple about communism and what they would tell young Americans who think America would benefit from it. They responded by saying that under socialism, people

I hope you all have a wonderful Fourth of July holiday!

BUSINESS IS A NEVER- ENDING GAME

Over the past few months, we have seen a rise in economic inflation, but it’s not the only type of inflation increasing. Social inflation is also on the up, which means litigation costs and their impact on insurers’ claim payouts, loss ratios, and how much policyholders pay for coverage will be affected. But why is social inflation increasing?

HOW DO YOU PLAY THIS INFINITE GAME?

Corporate Mistrust

“The Infinite Game” by Simon Sinek is among the greatest motivational books you can get your hands on. He gives readers an inside scoop on the importance of adopting an “infinite mindset” while “playing the game” of business. Let’s look at some of the chapters that can help you and your business. Chapter 1: Business Isn’t a Finite Game The first chapter discusses why running a business isn’t a finite game. It focuses on how profit and income aren’t the only ways to measure success. Profit means nothing if you’re unable to survive current and future difficulties. This is why business is an infinite game — you don’t want to create something to “win” (finite); you want to build a foundation that will remain for future generations (infinite). Chapter 2: Essential Practices Sinek explains the strategies you need to play the infinite game. These skills include developing a “just cause,” creating trusting teams, studying your rivals, preparing for flexibility, and showing

Americans have developed a mistrust of big businesses over the last few years. A recent poll by Gallup found that 48% of Americans have a negative view of big business, and 75% say they have some, little, or no confidence in corporate America. Social inflation is driven by the need to do the right thing, so juries will try to send a message through their verdict, which can adversely affect big businesses dealing with controversial issues.

The pandemic completely upended how courtrooms operated. While some courtrooms utilized Zoom to carry on with cases, many others were delayed and are just now being resumed two years later. This has led to larger payouts overall.

courage to lead. He follows up with examples of companies that embody all five of these principles: Victorinox, the creator of the Swiss Army knife, Bill Gates and Microsoft, and the GPS company Garmin.

Suave Attorneys

Many plaintiffs hire lawyers who are well known in their area thanks to advertising and marketing. Many of these lawyers are well-versed in using emotion to tell a story and captivating the jurors. This can lead juries to side with the plaintiff regardless of the facts of the case.

Chapter 5: Building a Culture of Trust

A healthy work culture is based on trust. If your workers sense a lack of trust, that affects efficiency,

Another scenario becoming more common is the practice of third-party investors raising money to help plaintiffs pursue lawsuits against companies and their insurers. External funding allows more claimants the option to pursue litigation.

since no one will feel comfortable voicing their concerns or mistakes. Ford Motor

Company is a perfect example. Before 2006, the now-former CEO would reprimand and penalize workers who brought him bad information. This caused an unhealthy work environment and led to lower productivity. Sinek offers tips on how to create a culture where your employees are comfortable and confident. “The Infinite Game” teaches you that business is an endless game where you have to overcome many challenges. Successful businesses play the infinite game, constantly improving the business to become better. Sinek provides tips, solutions, and examples of how your business can thrive while playing the game. To get your hands on “The Infinite Game,” visit your local bookstore or online retailer.

Physicians’ Letters of Protection

A plaintiff’s lawyer can enter an agreement with a physician that guarantees medical expenses from the final settlement or verdict. In most cases, the plaintiff can only recover the expenses paid at a discount due to their insurance coverage. If the plaintiff visits a physician outside their insurer’s network under a letter of protection, they can claim higher damages.

One Man’s Heroics Landing a Plane With No Experience

After locating the plane, Morgan directed Harrison toward Palm Beach, which had the biggest runway in the area. Morgan continued to give the passengers instructions so they could safely land the plane and before he knew it, Harrison radioed over to him saying, “I’m on the ground; how do I turn this thing off?” Other pilots who witnessed the flight were stunned at how well the passengers were able to land the plane. Morgan even gave it a 10 out of 10 rating! When it was all said and done, Morgan rushed out to meet the passengers and embrace them. Morgan said that Harrison was the real hero of the day since he was able to take over the situation, remain calm, and get the plane safely back on the ground. Most of us will probably never find ourselves in this situation, but it’s comforting to know air control would be able to help us return safely to the ground if need be.

Imagine this scenario: You hop on a small plane to catch a short flight back home, but the pilot becomes incapacitated during the flight. What would you do? This exact situation happened to a couple of passengers, who luckily were able to navigate the situation flawlessly. In mid-May, a flight departed Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas on its way to the U.S. About an hour into the flight, the pilot told his two passengers that he wasn’t feeling well. Before long, he slumped into the plane’s controls, which sent the vehicle into a nosedive. Darren Harrison, one of the passengers, was able to grab hold of the controls and stabilize the plane. He then radioed down to sea level and informed those listening of his situation. His call was caught by air traffic controller Robert Morgan, and he was informed that the passengers had no experience flying a plane. Morgan asked Harrison where his current position was, but since Harrison had no prior flying experience, he couldn’t accurately answer. He said he could see the coast of Florida, so Morgan instructed him to keep his wings level and start to descend so they could find where the plane was located.

Advocating for Women Around the World

Meet Whitney Wolfe Herd

Editor’s Note: The following article mentions sexual assault.

Dating apps are very popular with the younger generation, and one app has taken the world by storm. Bumble Inc. was created in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe Herd and is an online dating platform where women get to message their matches first. Just two hours after Bumble launched, its stock price soared, making her a billionaire. She is now one of the top female CEOs in tech and the founder of one of the largest dating apps in the world. Wolfe Herd’s experience with toxic and abusive relationships and misogyny within the tech industry inspired her to create Bumble. She was the co-founder of Tinder in 2021, another dating app, but she soon left the company after an executive (who was also her boyfriend) sexually harassed her. Wolfe Herd then sued Tinder over these allegations, but Tinder denied any wrongdoing. Eventually, both parties settled. This experience pushed Wolfe Herd to challenge dating norms, and she wanted to inspire women to take their power back. Although Bumble is known for allowing women to message their matches first,

this only scratches the surface of Wolfe Herd’s branding and marketing strategy. The app has grown beyond just dating — now, you can network professionally and find new platonic friendships. Wolfe Herd is focusing more on creating a brand that fosters a safe place for women to network — she wants it to be a women’s social platform. Today, Wolfe Herd is pushing Bumble into cultures and countries where women don’t traditionally have a voice. Although this may seem risky, she says, “We need to go where we’re needed the most.” She is also using her platform to advocate for legislation outlawing domestic and international digital sexual harassment. Wolfe Herd wants women to take control, and she will stop at nothing until she reaches her goals.
