found what drove him to be success- ful. “Growing up in a small town, not really anyone knowing who I was and coming to a small school up here kind of had that same feel. It’s just a grind, and you kind of had that chip on your shoulder coming from a small area, and you try to prove yourself.” Horne still carries that mentality with him today as the first baseman for the High-A affiliate of the defending World Series champions, and the team he grew up cheering for as a kid. Af- ter his time at Georgia Highlands, Horne found himself at the Division
Bryson Horne is from Blountstown, Florida. Bryson Horne has played baseball all of his life, and Bryson Horne loves the Atlanta Braves. If you’ve kept up with the feature sto- ries within the Rome Braves digital program this year, you know that there is a common theme throughout most of the stories. The guys you show up and cheer for every night have more in common with you than you think. When they wake up in the mornings, they put their shoes on one foot at
a time just like me and you. The play- ers have friends, families, and loved ones just like we do. But for Braves fans, there is a little extra connection to Bryson Horne. Horne grew up a Braves fan, credit- ing Chipper Jones as his favorite play- er, and what truly sparked his love of the game.
II Columbus State University in Geor- gia. It was his time there that really put him on the radar. In 2020, Major League Baseball drastically reduced the length of the draft. This meant that there were less rounds and less picks. As a victim of the shortened rounds, Bryson Horne was left without a home following the 2020
Yeah everyone likes to talk about [Spencer] Strider and his mustache , but I had it first.
“I grew up watching Chipper and the Braves on TV. Ever since then I start- ed playing the game and I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to play this game as long as I can, and now here we are.” Horne’s path to pro- fessionalism started similar to a lot of guys, taking the Junior College route straight out of high school. Horne attended Georgia Highlands College straight out of high school before transferring to Columbus State. In his time at Georgia Highlands, Horne
MLB Draft. But not all hope was lost, as his childhood team came calling shortly after. In June of 2020, the At- lanta Braves signed Bryson Horne as an undrafted free agent, bringing to reality a long-awaited dream for the Sunshine State native. Although reaching the professional level of the game was a coveted goal for Horne, it is not the thing he is most proud of. When asked what he believes is his greatest accomplishment, Horne

went straight to his family. “I would say what I’m most proud of is being there for my family. This is something they knew I wanted to do since I was little, and they’ve been there for me from the beginning. Taking me to tour- naments and what not, so to be there for them after they had been there for me for so long is big to me. Family is everything to me, especially now that I’m gone six to seven months out of the year. I would say having a tight knit family is what I’m most proud of.” Bryson Horne spent all of the 2021 campaign with the Augusta Green- Jackets. It was in Low-A days that Horne was really able to get back into the swing of things following a Covid shortened college finale. Horne was finally getting a full season of work, and really developing his craft. How-

ever, as successful as Horne proved to be on the diamond, there was some- thing else that was stealing the show at GreenJackets games. Bryson Horne has one of if not the best mustach- es in all of baseball. What started as a joke in college has come around to be a signature look. Although when you think about the Atlanta Braves and mustaches, Bryson Horne is not the first person who comes to mind… yet. “Yeah everyone likes to talk about [Spencer] Strider and his mustache, but I had it first.” Horne’s mid-west showdown mus- tache is just another element of fun that Horne brings to the table to keep things loose in the clubhouse. Horne, much like every other player on the Rome Braves, believes that baseball is a humbling game and that you need to keep it loose and fun. Horne has
indeed kept it loose and is continuing to have fun. The first baseman has be- come a center point in the Braves’ line up in the second half and continues to improve and develop his skillset. However, Horne continues to remain humble around some of the game’s biggest names. “When we were at Spring Training this year, I was work- ing out in the weight room and I look over and Austin Riley is on the squat rack next to me, and then I’m bench pressing next to Marcell Ozuna. It’s crazy how I’m there with them, I’m one of them.” While yes, he is ‘one of them’, Horne is also ‘one of us’. He goes to Chick-Fil-A and gets nuggets and waf- fle fries, and he roots for the Braves no matter where he is. “I’m still a fan. I’m still a Braves fan, and I always will be. Hopefully I can continue to contrib- ute and be successful.”
