Saline County Library EXPERIENCES November 2020

November is the time of year when we take stock and acknowledge all the things we are grateful for--family, friends, and co-workers always make my list. This year we’re also thankful for having jobs, staying well, and toilet paper. If we were lucky. Except for January and February, the entire year has been one challenge after the next. Every situation was new, and there was no past experience to tell us how to handle it. The community has been exceptionally flexible and infinitely patient while we try to figure out how to move forward. The library staff rose to the occasion time after time—going virtual, developing new services, wearing masks all day long. It was a lot of change. Thankfully, working at the library is very fulfilling. Staff who are new to the library environment are always surprised by how meaningful our work is. It’s what keeps us coming in every day with a smile. It’s why we missed having patrons come into the library. So, I guess this year I’m not only thankful to have a job. I’m thankful to have this job, at this library with this staff in this community. And I have a whole new appreciation for toilet paper.

Sincerely, Patty Hector
