Coming Soon: A New Location in Longview! CONSTRUCTION STARTS AS OUR NEW OFFICE OPENS IN TYLER

In last month’s newsletter, I filled you in on our team’s big plan for the summer: moving our Tyler office to a new, bigger building at 1520 Rice Road. We’ve been busy with the renovation project for weeks. You might think that would be enough excitement for one dental practice to tackle, but in late July, we took on another big project if you can believe it. We closed on a property in Longview that will be home to another brand-new office location! This property is located just south of ABC Auto on Highway 259. One of the best things about the move is we’ll have a lot more space to help our patients. This was key for us when looking for a new building site because we’d clearly outgrown our old office. Fortunately, this new spot that my neighbor, Mark, helped me find will fit the bill. When the construction is complete, we’ll have 9,000 total square feet and enough space for 19 operatory rooms to help us serve more patients than ever. It’s going to be a huge upgrade to move from our current Longview location with six operatory rooms to this new one with 19, including seven surgical suites! We’ll also have about 70 parking spots at the new location, and I have my fingers crossed that we can bring a restaurant or coffee shop along with us for patients to enjoy. If you follow us on Facebook (Facebook.com/ TexasSedationDental), you’ve already gotten a sneak peek of the spot where the new building will go. I posted a video showing me on the site

on July 29 that you should definitely check out if you missed it. The same builder is handling both our Tyler and Longview projects, and you can meet him in that on-site video, too. Facebook really is a great place to keep up with all the things our practice is doing. In addition to that video of the Longview site, I’ve also made progress videos of our construction in Tyler to give you an idea of what to expect after our move there, which is right round the corner on Sept. 27.

Our new office in Tyler

On July 8, I even filmed a full tour of the Tyler office to help you feel at home!

All that said, I’d better not get ahead of myself. We just broke ground on this new building in Longview, and it will be between nine months and a year before we can fully move in. In the meantime, please have patience with our team at our current Longview office. Space is a bit tight, but we’re taking every step possible to ensure you continue to get the best quality care during this transition.

Have a fantastic rest of your summer, and we’ll see you soon!

Posing in front of our new Longview lot!

-Dr. Travis Kendall

Don’t Reach for the Coffee 3 NATURAL WAYS TO BOOST YOUR ENERGY WITHOUT CAFFEINE

If you can’t start your day without your daily cup — or cups — of joe, you’re not alone. More than 450 million cups of coffee are consumed by U.S. residents every day, and unfortunately, heavy caffeine consumption may not be healthy. (It’s a big reason why celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, and Kim Kardashian don’t drink it!) Moderate amounts of caffeine can improve your mental health, and some studies suggest it could even prevent some chronic conditions. However, there are major downsides to overconsumption, which equates to more than four cups of coffee each day. These can include high blood pressure, addiction symptoms, and decreased mentality. If you want to break out of the caffeine cycle and reduce how much coffee you drink, try replacing that cuppa with one of these methods! Stretch After lying in one position all night, your body may feel stiff and achy. Stretching awakens your muscles and helps you break out of that groggy morning feeling. Start with your back and do some slow core twists. Then, sit on the floor and lay your legs out in front of you. Stretch forward, then sit back up. Next, position your right foot on the

opposite side of your left knee. Keeping your hips centered, turn your torso toward your right foot so that your right arm is on your right knee. Switch to the other side and repeat as needed. Finally, pull your head toward your shoulders to loosen your neck. Go for a Walk When you wake up in the morning, head outside! Movement stimulates your brain and improves your mood, and the act of walking is relaxing enough that it doesn’t require much effort on your part. Plus, it’s a great way to get your steps in, wake up slowly, and get outside before a busy day. Just Breathe This might sound like it will lull you to sleep, but there are actually some breathing techniques that can help you wake up! The “breath of fire” is a rapid-fire breathing technique, during which you inhale deeply, exhale deeply, inhale deeply again, and then exhale quickly. Repeat this as needed. Other practices that focus on breathing, like yoga, can be effective, too.

Waking up isn’t an exact science, but once you find a healthy method that works for you, you may never need coffee again. (Gasp!)

‘ALL-ON-4’ DENTAL IMPLANTS EXPLAINED Get a Brand-New Smile With Just 4 Implants!

Does it hurt? Implants sound scary because the process entails inserting screw-like metal posts into your jawbone. However, today’s high-tech dental industry has come up with ways to make this procedure practically pain-free! It’s also quick — you can get your new,

Did you know that more than 36 million Americans are missing both their upper and lower rows of teeth, and millions more are missing one set? If you’re in this situation, you’re far from alone, and dentistry has created an ideal solution for you: the All-On-4 Dental Implants system.

Why get All-On-4? You may have considered implants in the past but rejected the idea because you were afraid you’d have to pay for one implant per tooth. Fortunately, this isn’t true! It’s actually not necessary to place an implant for every missing tooth. Implants act as a support for fixed bridgework, so one implant inserted into the bone can support multiple teeth. What does that mean for you? Well, with our All-On-4 Dental Implant system, we can strategically use just four implants to replace your full upper or lower row of teeth. If you’d like both rows replaced with beautiful, bright new teeth, that would require just eight implants — a far cry from the 32 implants you’d need if you got one per tooth!

radiant smile in just one day. Our patients tell us that the beautiful, lifetime smile they get is well worth the brief discomfort. As a bonus, implants don’t need any special care or require diet restrictions.

Are All-On-4 Dental Implants right for you?

If you’re missing a whole row of teeth and feeling ashamed, self-conscious, or unattractive because of it, All-On-4 Dental Implants will give you a reason to smile again. To find out if they’re the right option for you (compared to single implants or dentures), visit TexasSedationDental.com to book an appointment or call our offices in Longview (903-704-0154) or Tyler (903-251-2858).

Dental implants and sedation dentistry are pretty niche topics — your parents probably didn’t tell you about them when they were teaching you to floss and brush your teeth! Having questions about these procedures is perfectly normal. To help you understand what we do a bit better, we’ve rounded up a few FAQs other patients have asked. They might cover your concerns, too! We Have Answers! Got Questions About Implants or Sedation?

EASY FOIL-GRILLED SAUSAGE AND VEGETABLES

Inspired by NutmegNanny.com

• 4 sausage links of your choice • 1 lb green beans • 1 red bell pepper, diced • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced INGREDIENTS

• 1 zucchini, diced • 3 tbsp olive oil • 2 cloves garlic, grated

• 1 tbsp thyme • 1 tsp oregano

How long do dental implants last? This depends on how well you take care of your teeth. With proper brushing and flossing and regular visits for in-office cleanings, dental implants can last for decades!

• 1 tsp basil • 1 tsp salt • 1 tsp crushed red pepper (optional)

• 1 red onion, diced • 1 yellow summer squash, diced

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat your grill to medium heat or your oven to 425 F. 2. In a large bowl, add all of the ingredients and mix well. Divide into four equal portions. 3. Prepare four 16-inch pieces of foil and place a portion in the middle of each section. Wrap each foil piece tightly and avoid holes. 4. Grill each foil packet for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. You can also bake each packet for 20 minutes at 425 F.

Will I ever need to take my dental implants out? Single implanted teeth and “All on 4” full arch teeth are permanent replacements and never come out. Implanted dentures have the ability to snap in and snap out. They will need taken out every night, but unlike regular dentures, you’ll never have to worry about messy adhesives for your dental implants.

What is sedation dentistry? Sedation dentistry is the process of administering medication orally or via IV so you can undergo a procedure calmly and with minimal pain.

TAKE A BREAK

Does sedation dentistry make you fall asleep? No, it doesn’t! It puts you in a state of extreme relaxation while you’re still fully conscious. That said, you likely won’t remember anything about the procedure. It’s also possible to choose sedation that does put you entirely to sleep if that’s what you prefer.

Is sedation dentistry safe? Sedation dentistry is very safe. Because you’re conscious the whole time, you can still communicate with your dentist if you need to and react to what’s happening. Breathe easily! These are all layers of protection!

Fresh Breath Is EasierThan You Think!

What’sThat Smell? How to Get Fresh Breath!

Happy (maybe belated) National Fresh Breath Day! Unless you’re a dentist or in dental marketing, you may have no idea that this seemingly small, strange holiday even exists, but it does — on Aug. 6, to be exact. It’s wise not to ignore this day, as it can serve as an important reminder to keep your mouth clean, fresh, and balanced. So, what is bad breath? Those noxious fumes wafting from your mouth could be the result of any number of scenarios. Simply eating or drinking something potent, like coffee, garlic, or onions, can produce sulfides, which cause the smell to linger. You could also be eating too many sweets. The bad bacteria in your mouth love to feed on these sugary morsels, and the plaque buildup could start to stink.

Other factors include drinking too much alcohol or smoking and chewing tobacco.

Some people may also struggle with chronic halitosis (chronic bad breath). In some serious cases, this could be a symptom of an underlying medical issue, an allergy symptom, or the result of medication. If you’re concerned, let us know. We can help you find the cause! Ew! How do you fix it? As with any dental issue, the best way to prevent and treat smelly breath is to regularly brush and floss your teeth. This removes stuck-on food particles, sugar, and plaque buildup, all of which could be contributing to your bad breath. (Don’t forget to brush your tongue and replace your toothbrush regularly!)

If you can’t brush your teeth the moment you catch the smell, popping a piece of sugar- free gum or a mint into your mouth could do the trick. Try rinsing with water, drinking more water, or eating mild food, like carrots or bell peppers, to scrub away at your teeth and gums. Treatment for more chronic cases of halitosis could mean changes to your diet and lifestyle choices and potential adjustments to your treatment for serious medical conditions. Before doing this, please consult with dental professionals. We can help you find a solution that fits into your lifestyle and restores the balance of smell in your mouth!
