The scale, variety and complexity of the estate is unparalleled within the sector. To support the delivery of UCL’s 20-year strategy, UCL2034, we are delivering a £1.8bn capital investment programme to develop a truly inspiring estate for our students, staff, visitors and partners. This includes the development of UCL East, our new campus at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will offer world class research, teaching and living accommodation within the largest cultural and educational development in Europe. The Role of Director of Property and Asset Management
We are seeking to appoint to the crucial post of Director of Property and Asset Management to play a leading role in the delivery of a world-class estate to support world- class research, teaching and enterprise. As we continue to invest in our estate and campus environment we are creating an industry-leading team focused on developing an estates strategy to support the UCL Vision and Mission to 2034 and beyond. The Director of Property and Asset Management will drive forward the development of the UCL Estates Strategy, with a specific remit to lead a team responsible for space management and property asset management across our portfolio. We are seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record in estates leadership roles across a large scale, diverse and complex real estate portfolio. You will have broad experience spanning development, property asset management and space and workplace management. The role calls for an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and that demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm and passion for UCL’s Vision and Mission, with the ability to translate this into the delivery of world-class estates strategy and property asset management.

Reporting to the Director of Estate Development, the Director of Property and Asset Management leads a team responsible for estates strategy development, space management and property asset management across the UCL portfolio. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB • Lead the development and implementation plan for UCL estate strategy having regard to agreed Institutional, Divisional and Faculty priorities. • Lead and manage the development and implementation of Estates’ property and space management strategies and policies. • Lead on all aspects of UCL’s property, asset and space management • A member of the Estate Development leadership team with collective leadership responsibilities for UCL Estate as a whole. • Leading, developing, managing and coordinating a professional team, proactively managing performance, ensuring the effective induction of new staff and the ongoing direction, guidance, appraisal and development of individuals; promote a customer focused, constructively challenging, responsive and adaptable service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic planning • Lead the strategic planning for the future development of the estate in support of the UCL Estate Strategy having regard to agreed Institutional, Divisional and Faculty priorities. • Lead and manage engagement with a wide range of internal stakeholders and partners to develop space strategy, optimising the effective allocation, utilisation and management of space throughout UCL. • Work collaboratively with a wide range of internal stakeholders and external partners to develop feasibility and scoping documentation; lead the compilation of business cases and presentations associated with space demands. • Work collaboratively with project delivery teams to ensure the effective transition from feasibility to delivery based on a detailed understanding of stakeholders’ needs and objectives.
Property - asset management and transactions • Lead the development and implementation of UCL’s property and asset management strategy • Lead the acquisition of property on behalf of UCL including negotiations relating to freehold and leasehold agreements and contracts; lead transactions for the disposal of surplus property assets. • Lead the relationship with in-house legal counsel and external legal property advisers. • Represent the Division and the Institution in its property dealings with local land owners and their representatives. See opportunities for join ventures and partnering alongside strategic asset management planning of leasehold and freehold estate. • Represent the Institution in town planning matters to the maximum benefit of its wider range and objectives. • Ensure that the Estate is properly insured in liaison with the Finance Division; oversee periodic revelations of UCL’s 2bn holdings for fire insurance • Manage UCL’s property budget of c. 40M pa
