Winter 2020 Commencement 2

Welcome from the Chancellor

On behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, congratulations to our Winter 2020 graduates for their learning and rigorous work, and to all who made their achievements possible. This winter we honor more than 500 students, their families and supporters as they celebrate reaching this remarkable goal. They hold degrees from a university that boasts four academic colleges and more than 100 program choices within 53 majors, 79 minors and 16 graduate programs. Graduates, under normal circumstances, completing a university degree is a major accomplishment, one achieved with significant sacrifices by the students themselves and by their families, associates and friends. But this has been a time like no other in our history. While you had to sacrifice more than most, you have overcome the challenges of the past semester with resilience, determination and adaptability.

Bernie L. Patterson

You have proven your ability to acclimate to new environments, think deeply and find creative ways to solve problems. You can look ahead to a bright future with confidence, for these skills will be highly sought by employers as you go out into the world to fulfill your purpose. We are so very proud of you as we honor and celebrate your accomplishments. And while you may not have been able to spend as much time on campus this semester– please know you are always welcome at UW-Stevens Point, and it will always be your home. Thank you to our students’ family and friends, who have lent support and encouragement when they needed it most. Thank you to UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff, who through their dedication, mentorship and creativity have broadened our students’ intellectual horizons, contributed to many happy memories, and most importantly, transformed their lives. It is my honor to confer these degrees and present the Winter 2020 graduates, so we may all share in the great joy of their success. Sincerely,

Bernie L. Patterson Chancellor
