Photographic Shoot The photographer will arrive at 8.30am and will shoot between 9.00am–2.30pm. The shoot is usually completed by lunchtime and our photographer will then have a debrief with you to ensure that everything has been photographed to your satisfaction.
Helpful hints to get the very best from the Shoot… Clean and tidy classrooms.
Neat, tidy, smart students definitely look more attractive in photographs! *Correct uniform *Ties tied correctly *Jewellery and make-up policies adhered to
All the above contribute to more pleasing images.
Some Schools offer their students a ‘reward’ of a non-uniform day after the Shoot to repay them for making an extra effort with their appearance! If featured in the brochure, correct sports kit and footwear to be worn for activity shots. Safety equipment should be used/worn if featured in the photographs. We find that using students who excel in certain areas (i.e. sports/drama/music) demonstrates these activities at their best.

Things to remember On the day, please ensure all students are wearing correct uniform. That all jewellery and make up policies are adhered to. Please makes sure they have full and correct sportswear. Students must be neat, smart and tidy. Classrooms must be neat and tidy. No water bottles on tables, no boxes on windowsills etc, this will mean way more time for good shots. Ensure all staff are aware that Vancols are coming and will be working throughout the school during the day. Ensure that there are plenty of activities on the day of photography – Drama, Music, Sport, Science experiments. If using the Theatre, please ensure all lighting is switched on. Mix seating girls and boys. Shots suggested Headteacher/s CEO Head Boy and Girl/Prefects Maths - Reference books on student’s desk so obvious what this lesson is. English - Reference books on student’s desk so obvious what this lesson is. (The above is just so we get some ‘head down’ writing ‘academic’ type shots.) Languages - Reference books on student’s desk so obvious what this lesson is. (The above is just so we get some ‘head down’ writing ‘academic’ type shots.) Computing/IT - Show only the latest equipment that you have.
Science - Set up experiment. Correct safety equipment to be used; Goggles, Lab Coats etc, Pupils looking at liquids in test tubes works well. Art - Students working on bright colourful artwork, maybe on an easel, the bigger the better. Music - Traditional instruments. Piano, Violin, Guitar, using students who actually do play those instruments, they will look more relaxed and ‘professional.’ PE - Correct PE kit. Use older students that excel in Sports, doesn’t matter what the sport is. As long as they are good at it, we can make them look good! Drama - Use students that are confident in this subject, hopefully in a drama room, or on stage with working lights with some colour gels on them. DT - Practical lessons are always good, also pupils on pillar drill, lathe or similar. Lunch - Canteen, Children interacting with each other during lunch/break time. Communal areas - Common Room, Corridors, Outside Area. Children interacting with each other. Children interacting with Staff. Basically, we want to ‘show off’ the very best of your School. Attention to the above and general tidiness around the school makes a huge difference. Whilst most of the shots Janus shoots are pretty close up, the backgrounds really do matter. Allow on average 15 minutes per shot.
