Do I Really Need a Lawyer to Handle My Injury Claim?

Falling victim to serious injuries as a result of someone else’s negligence can be an extremely difficult and stressful experience. One of the first questions that arises following a personal injury incident is this: “Do I need to hire a lawyer?” Despite all the crazy lawyer marketing and misinformed advice from friends, family members, and health care workers, the true answer depends on a number of factors — all of which are discussed in my free book: Get It Settled Without A Lawyer! Insider Information From A Former Insurance Defense Attorney. It does bear noting that an injured person who hires an experienced lawyer (who specializes in injury law) will typically receive 3–3 ½ times more compensation versus someone without a good lawyer. By that notion, hiring the right attorney can become the most important step you can take to make sure that you are fairly compensated and your family is protected. “Hiring the right attorney can become the most important step you can take to make sure that you are fairly compensated.” Studies (including insurance industry studies) have shown that even after paying attorney’s fees, injured people who hire a skilled and experienced attorney are well-positioned to come out far better in terms of compensation than they would trying to settle their case on their own or with an attorney who does not specialize in injury law. And because the insurance company wants to pay as little as possible and avoid paying the full legal value of your claim, they don’t want you to know what an advantage you’ll have if you hire a good lawyer.

Injury attorneys represent their clients on a percentage basis, meaning that there are zero out-of-pocket fees and no upfront costs to the client. Your attorney will be paid an agreed-upon percentage of the compensation recovered for you. The insurance company would rather you let them handle everything and just take their settlement (often smaller than you need and deserve) so they can call the claim closed. Every case is unique, and nobody can guarantee a better outcome with or without an attorney. Again, there are numerous factors to consider. But take some time to research highly rated and reviewed attorneys in your area. You’ll be glad you educated yourself before speaking with a crafty insurance adjuster who only wants an unfair advantage over you and your claim.

Most attorneys will consult with you free of charge and offer guidance on the next best steps to take with your injury claim. Better yet, call us to request our guide book or go to VanMeverenLaw.com and download your free copy today. –Bryan VanMeveren

Nothing says “I love you” more than equipping your children with important knowledge they'll need for the rest of their adult lives. Even if they groan about it now, they’ll be grateful for the know-how when they’re on their own in the future. Keep in mind that your home classroom doesn’t have to mimic a school classroom. Research from the University of Utah shows that kids learn best through hands-on activities and play. Have fun while teaching these life skills, and you’ll earn thank-yous for decades to come. 4 Life Skills You Can Teach Your Kids This Valentine's Day

‘One of the Best I’ve Dealt With’ “Attorney Karl was phenomenal from start to finish! He is extremely personable, caring, knowledgeable, hard-working, and very eager to do the best for his clients. After going airborne in a restaurant that didn’t clean their floor and tearing my triceps off of the bone (requiring surgery), I contacted VanMeveren. Karl touched base with me every week like clockwork to let me know what was going on. “From start to finish of actual negotiation time, he got everything wrapped up in only two months and got a very favorable settlement. Having been a practicing chiropractor for 20 years and having dealt with personal injury attorneys, I can honestly say that Karl is one of the best I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with.” –Howard Fleischer

Clean the House Were you ever surprised by how often you have to clean your kitchen? Your child may be too. Although your 10-year-old won’t have to worry about cleaning the stove today, they will need to know how when they move out, so find ways to incentivize

cleaning and make it more fun. You can have your kids collect “chore

points” that add up to a prize, like an extra hour of playing video games!

Develop Cooking Skills You may be hesitant to have a little chef in the house, but if you’re teaching

them how to clean up and stay safe while making some easy dishes, there’s no reason to worry! Even if you’re not a great cook yourself, it’s fun to prepare simple

recipes as a family. Plus, your kids will get used to the idea of cooking for themselves, which is both healthy and cost‑effective.

Learn to Garden What’s a better way to get outdoors with your child than to garden together? From using tools like shovels and rakes to nurturing another living organism, gardening provides plenty of rich life lessons, such as patience. Understand Household Maintenance Whether they’re learning how to use an electric breaker, unclog a drain, or clean out the washer or dryer, your kids can get started learning household maintenance skills with just a little guidance. Who knows, maybe they will be their dorm’s future superhero! There are many lessons you can teach your child at any age, so don’t limit yourself! Be creative with the lessons you pass on, and there’s a chance they’ll never forget them!

This year, the event is tentatively on. The half-marathon starts at 9 a.m. and the 4-mile race starts at 9:10 a.m., and both races feature a course that’s half-paved and half-dirt.
