Before we let the pictures do the talking of our activities today, please remember to scatter all cart traffic, fill your divots and to fix your ball mark, plus one other. Have a great week!

They sit on top of the leaderboard early in the qualifying process… Peter Thomson with a stellar back nine 36 on the South yesterday… Congratulations to Johanna Kung who scored an ace while playing at DuPont back on May 23. Ms. Kung holed out a 9-iron from 108 yards on the 14th hole for her 4th career ace. Very impressive! …Did you know that the Professional Staff is giving lessons? FITNESS & AQUATICS

QUOTE OF THE WEEK “The reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have gotten.” THE FITNESS CENTER IS OPEN! Members are enjoying getting back to their exercise routine. Between the hours of 7:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday and from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday members can get their hearts pumping on the cardio equipment and their muscles pumping on the strength equipment. Phase 1 guidelines include physical distancing, extra cleaning and disinfecting, and face masks when not exerting on a piece of equipment. TOP 3 RETURN TO PLAY/TRAIN GUIDELINES Many members are recognizing that you need to gradually readjust your training program to account for the time you may have missed in the fitness center. Here are the top 3 industry guidelines to consider: 1. There was a significant increase nationally in exercise injuries during the COVID-19 restrictions as cabin fever caused many exercisers not accustomed to running to take to the streets. Try walking first and consider using two or three different cardio machines for 10 minutes each to start. If you were running but stopped, please increase by no more than 10% per week either your speed, distance or time! 2. Stick to the basics. Another unfortunate outcome of the pandemic has been “experts” providing fitness programs and guidelines without the proper background and knowledge to do so (our personal trainers are all nationally certified so we can separate fact from fiction). We are happy to look at any program or exercise you have been doing to be sure it is right for you. 3. Remember to recover! Give your body time to recover after your workout, spacing out your sessions from 1-2 times per week to 3 or as many as you used to do. Also, remember that proper nutrition and adequate sleep are very important to your overall fitness and wellness.

25% of your bones are in your…

Feet! Each foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons, with both feet totaling 52 bones, or about 25% of the total bones found in your entire body. We’re often so busy focusing on the key areas (like our abs, arms, thighs) that we don’t really pay much attention to fitness for our feet. Our feet are the foundation for every vertical movement we do! Your balance, strength, power and control begin with your feet and they contain muscles that need development, too. Here are three important cues for foot training: 1. Spread the floor- when exercising think about spreading the floor with your feet by using the external cue of ripping a newspaper with your feet when getting stable for squats, hinges, swings, etc. 2. Use your whole foot- Feel your weight from your toes to your heels when standing (the athletic stance for sports set up requires more pressure toward the balls of your feet). If you are at the beach or pool, check your footprint to check how you distribute your body weight through your feet. 3. Wear the right shoe. Most running sneakers are built to absorb the impact of the huge force you put into the ground with each stride. This is counter productive to strength and power exercises where you need to be able to transmit the forces through your body, then through the ground and back out through your club or racket, or weight bar.
