July 2014 The Board of Directors asks Western Growers to launch an initiative that will accelerate the development of key innovations and technologies to address issues facing its members and the ag industry.

August 2017 Trace Genomics becomes the first startup to “graduate” out of the Center for Innovation & Technology incubator.

July 2016 Western Growers receives the first of two $30,000 grants fromWells Fargo to develop a scholarship program for agtech startups.

June 2015 Construction for the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology begins in the new Taylor Farms building in downtown Salinas.

Center for Innovation & Technology officially opens its doors.

October 2017 Western Growers partners with S2G Ventures to create AgSharks™, the first agtech competition to offer real-time investment opportunities and decision-making in front of a live audience. To date, a total of $2.5 million in equity investment has been offered to three startups.

October 2016 Regular classes, workshops and networking opportunities are established to help startups bring their technology from development to production.

2019 The Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology pursues an outcome- oriented approach, focusing on accelerating the development of technologies through collaboration and trial initiatives.

June 2018 Western Growers and Radicle Growth award two automation startups each with $250,000 in seed funding and exclusive access to farm acreage to pilot to their technologies during the inaugural Radicle Automation Challenge.

December 2017 The Center reaches its two- year mark, now hosting more than 50 startups who raised $26 million, created 140 new jobs and connected with 4,077 growers.

August 2018 Western Growers signs MOU with Agritech New Zealand to increase international connectivity and support agricultural innovation.

April 2018 The first episode of ‘Voices of the Valley’ airs — a podcast and radio show where WGCIT Lead Dennis Donohue interviews leaders in agtech and innovation.

December 2018 The Western Growers Center for Innovation and Technology receives its 55th resident start-up company and 29th sponsor.
