Serving as a bridge which connects pure science with scientific processes and knowledge as the means to achieve a practical result or solve a real-world problem, this interdisciplinary department includes a broad range of related fields, including economics, meteorology, psychology, and sociology. Faculty work with students to support them in

DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES AND COMMUNICATION
Students prepare for their future course work and for the working world through courses that include mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, chemistry, and environmental science. Faculty conduct research and work with students to build a foundation in quantitative literacy, critical thinking, and other general education competencies.
Courses in this department develop skills in information and cultural literacy, ethical reasoning, and critical thinking. Faculty encourage creativity and collaboration in an environment where students learn to become excellent written, oral, and digital communicators. Department faculty are experts
in such diverse fields as communication, creative writing, cultural studies, digital humanities, history, literary studies, and rhetoric.
From the Dean Student Success, Strategic Growth, and Faculty Research. These are the themes that defined the College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) in 2020. With the shifting demographics of Worldwide students, including significant growth in the Freshman student population, roughly 43% of Worldwide student enrollments now reside in COAS. Specifically, this means that recent innovations in the General Education program are critical to the success of Worldwide students. Additionally, COAS has launched academic initiatives focused on mentorship, networking, student research, and degree- specific employment opportunities. Growth in existing COAS degree programs and the development of new degree programs that support national industry needs also are contributing to student success. 2020 brought an expanded dimension to COAS offerings, with strategic faculty hiring in the interdisciplinary area of Human Security.
