Job Context
The Retail Manager, QM Food, will lead on the front of house service delivery for the restaurants and cafes in scope (The Curve, SCR, People’s Palace Café, Muccis, Grad Centre Café and the Nucleus) and will form part of the senior management team within QM Food (Retail & Hospitality). The job context will include new retail outlets coming on-line to include a café in the new Business School at Mile End, a food operation within Dept W in Whitechapel, and a potential new opening in the Queen’s Building at Mile End.
Job Purpose
The Retail Manager purpose is to deliver a best in class service for students, staff and visitors, ensuring that the retail offer is fit for purpose, with ‘best in class’ customer service delivery and consistent financial performance. The offers will need to be diverse to match the evolving customer needs, with innovation interwoven into the operation, to introduce high street retail practices into the current offer to include demand management, offer development, consistency of service, brand alignment and digital implementation.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
To lead the front of house retail staff across the outlets on the Mile End and Whitechapel, to ensure they are trained, coached and managed to deliver best in class retail services. To ensure that the retail offer is tailored to the customer needs in each location to include diversity of offer, suitable price points, effective gross margins and customer satisfaction. To deliver the financial plan for the retail outlets covering sales, gross profit and stock control. This is £2m per annum currently, with the aim of growing retail sales to £4m within 3 years of operation. To promote the retail offer on an ongoing basis with a rolling 12 month promotional calendar supported by daily social media activity. To participate in inclusive leadership activity with the senior management team within QM Food, working closely with the Head of QM Food, the Exec Head Chef and the Hospitality Manager. To have responsibility for the health and safety of the front of house retail operation, ensuring compliance with industry guidance and legislation e.g. HACCP To manage the in scope suppliers for the retail operation to ensure products are in line with specifications and production equipment is maintained.
To act as the knowledgable client for outlet refurbishments.
To plan for new openings planned for retail units within the Queen Mary campuses.
