If You Want It, Go for it! In the End, You’ll Only Regret Not Taking the Chance April 23 is National Take a Chance Day, and it’s an opportunity to reflect on the chances we have taken in our lives and bring awareness to the importance of mustering up the courage to take certain chances and leaps of faith. In my lifetime, I’ve taken many chances, one of which was the decision to open my own business. Growing up, my family didn’t have much money, so to follow my dreams and open my own business, I needed to borrow money. My wife and I had to put our house up and cross our fingers and pray that it would all work out. I had heard that 85% of new businesses fail within the first five years, but I had no choice but to make it work — I had to do whatever I needed to do.

shops? But with determination, hard work, and a little bit of faith, the risk paid off.

My daughter is a bit like me in that she has tried many things and seen success. She’s been a school teacher, a real estate agent, and even a piano business owner. She’s a hard worker and recognizes that it takes a lot of effort to make it work, but she never gives up, and that’s a great quality to have. As many of you know, I’m an avid golfer. I

have a friend who is attempting to go professional in the sport, and I keep encouraging him to work hard and not give up. You never know when you’re right on the brink of making it!

Twenty-five years later, I’m glad I seized the opportunity and gave it my all. I knew I didn’t want to reflect back on my life and regret not taking the

chance. I had confidence in myself that I could make it work. Sure, I made many mistakes because I didn’t know any better, but to be successful, you need to realize that it takes a massive effort, a good work ethic, and perseverance. There will be rough patches, but giving up is worse than never taking the chance at all. Sometimes, you may need to work seven days a week, 20 hours a day, with no vacation time in sight.

Taking a chance for the right reason is important. You must have a plan laid

out, and you must know where you want to go. Ultimately, you never want to look back at the chances that you could have or should have taken and ask yourself why you never jumped at the opportunity. Take the chance!

Spring-Cleanin 6 PLACES TO

MEET TINSLEY, A CAR CRASH SURVIVOR

Spring is in full swing, so a road trip or two may be in your near future. But before you head out to enjoy the warm weather with the windows down and your music blasting, take time to spruce up your vehicle in these six areas and get rid of the winter mess. THE EXTERIOR After a long winter, your car is surely in need of a good, thorough wash. Using a soft towel or sponge and a mild detergent, scrub well and be sure to get in all of the cracks and crevices. You may need to rinse and repeat to be sure all of the winter grime is removed from the vehicle. UPHOLSTERY AND CARPETING Car seats and floor mats are often forgotten during the cleaning phase, but they’re as important as the rest of the vehicle, especially if you were getting in and out of your car while wearing winter boots. If possible, utilize a carpet cleaner to really deep-clean any stains on seats, floor mats, and the carpet underneath. If you have leather seats, use a damp towel to wipe them down. THE WINDOWS Using a good glass cleaner, clean the interior and exterior of all of your windows, including your mirrors. If it’s been a while since you last

On Jan. 3, 2022, New Hampshire State Police responded to a call about a lone dog wandering around on the interstate near Veterans Memorial Bridge. When they got there, the pup — a Shiloh shepherd named Tinsley — led the officers on what seemed to be a wild goose chase.

“When Trooper Sandberg and the Lebanon police officers attempted to get close

to the canine, it continued to run northbound on Interstate 89, crossing into Vermont,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post. “A short time later, Trooper Sandberg and the Lebanon police officers located a damaged section of guardrail near the Interstate 91 and Interstate 89 junction.”

It turns out Tinsley had a destination in mind: an upside-down pickup truck that had crashed through that very guardrail.

The truck had rolled off the highway, and the people who were inside — including Tinsley’s owner, Cam Laundry — were on the ground, badly hurt and hypothermic! Thanks to Tinsley’s bravery, the cops called an ambulance that rushed them to the hospital. “This was almost like a real-life Lassie situation,” one lieutenant told CNN. “It’s really quite remarkable. This dog definitely saved their lives. I don’t think they would have survived the night given the temperatures.” Tinsley is a real hero on four legs, just like Lassie, a fictional pup who saved two little boys from dying of hypothermia in the snow. Fortunately, Tinsley’s grateful owner, Cam, made a full recovery. He also knows just how special his pup is. “She gets spoiled all the time,” he told the WPTZ news station. “She’ll get some venison, probably [a] burger tonight, and probably some back scratches with it.” Tinsley is not the only dog who has saved a human from the cold. In the winter of 2017, a rescue pooch named Peanut saved the life of a 3-year-old girl in Michigan who had wandered away from home, and a golden retriever named Kelsey saved her owner after he slipped in the snow and broke his neck. She kept himwarm for 19 hours and barked until help came. To hear the full story of Tinsley’s roadside rescue, do an online search for “Tinsley real-life Lassie” for videos and more!

THE CONSOLE Wipe down your center consoles with a damp towel, but be sure you don’t get anything electrical wet in the process. Don’t forget the cup holders and dashboard — dust loves to collect there!

THE TRUNK What have you tossed in your trunk lately that can be taken out? While you’re back there, check to make sure that your emergency and first- aid kit have everything that you need and do a quick inspection of your spare tire. UNDER YOUR HOOD Take a peek under the hood of your car. Clean out any debris, dirt, or leaves that have gotten caught in the engine area. Make sure you are gentle! on a snack, engaging with passengers in your car, or even checking your GPS. Anything that steals your attention from the road falls under the category of distracted driving. According to many studies, if you take your eyes off of the road while driving at a speed of 55 mph, it’s the same thing as driving the length of a full football field with your eyes closed, which hopefully you would never do! So much can happen in such a short period of time. A child or animal could potentially run out in the road, the car ahead of you could slam on their brakes or swerve in front of you, or there may be a sharp curve you need to slow down for in order to navigate it. Without dedicating your full attention to the road, you could find yourself in a very tragic or dangerous situation that could have been avoided if you were paying attention. If you’re driving, other things can wait. If you absolutely must take care of something, find a safe place to pull over. Nothing is ever worth the risk.
