You are invited you to come VIVA Charles City with our local RAGBRAI committee!
It’s been a whirlwind six months of planning. Now the time has finally arrived, and the Charles City commu- nity is beyond excited to welcome our RAGBRAI friends on Thursday July 28, 2022! Our hometown hospitality lives in the sights, sounds, and smells of our com- munity, and we are pleased to share our people, businesses, and history with you. Here are just a few things in store for our guests, with so much more highlighted through the pages of our Press tabloid!
Central Park festival area will feature bands from 1:00 – 11:00 PM, with our main entertainment, Viva Knievel, making their RAGB- RAI debut on center stage at 9:00 PM. Make a memory at a variety of selfie picture frames around town, grab a photo at one of our colorful murals, or visit the world- class Mooney art collection at our library. • Viva! whatever pace you want… relax in the shade along the beau- tiful Cedar River winding through town, while enjoying the acoustic music at our naturally beautiful amphitheater or speed up the pace
cooling off with a tube ride down Iowa’s first whitewater rapids park and test your axe throwing skills at the downtown festival. • Viva! the taste... with a variety of food to enjoy on Main Street around Central Park, along with special homemade meals planned in churches and other locations throughout town. • Viva! the yearn to learn… spend some time exploring what makes Charles City unique through our rich arts and impactful history.
Arts Center, or experience our award-winning Floyd County Mu- seum. • Viva! the urge to shop… don’t miss the retail shops stocked with merch, and of course you can refu- el and rehydrate at our local food and beverage establishments. Thank you! To those local volunteers, housing hosts, sponsors, and people of our community – you all Viva the heart of Charles City!

Brad & Kate is a pop-folk group lead by husband and wife duo, Kate Myers and Brad Myers. Charming and dynamic, the duo have grown an organic following around Iowa and the Midwest in a few short years. Their first full-length album, scheduled to release summer 2022, boasts a variety of sounds from their newly released pop single, “You Right Next to Me” to indie-folk-rock, “Better on My Own” to a reflective, “Dreams Change.”
Blame Not the Bard is on a mission: to bring the stories of Ireland alive...and to have fun doing it.
Levi Smith & The Bad Landings hails from north Iowa and is currently touring to support an upcoming album of original music. The band has combined a wide variety of musical influences to develop a sound all its own. Juni West is a singer and songwriter, also from north Iowa, who has a unique sound that incorporates a diverse mixture of styles, including Americana, alternative, indie rock and even a hint of old school country. Juni West pours her soul into heartfelt lyrics and emotionally charged vocals.
Described as “Iowa Raised, Ireland Rooted,” Blame Not the Bard is a high-energy trio determined to get your feet moving and hands clapping. Armed with Irish song, stories, and fiddling, Blame Not the Bard will bring you an evening of down-to-earth entertainment you won’t soon forget!

6:30 pm-8:30 pm
WheelHouse is a nationally touring Americana and bluegrass band hailing from Madison, Wisconsin. Known as one of the hardest working bands in the midwest, they have played well over a thousand shows in the past 6 years and released 5 records. Featuring three and four part harmonies, fiddle and guitar leads, and driving rhythm of the upright bass WheelHouse brings an energy and attitude unique to themselves.
HEADLINER: 9:00 pm-11:00 pm
A COVER BAND THAT DEFIES GRAVITY. WITH NO FEAR OF BROKEN BONES, WE TAKE THE STAGE AND ATTEMPT FEATS THAT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE.
Viva Knievel is an 8-to-100 piece fearless American wrecking ball. Featuring former members of National Recording Artists, White Light Riot (50 Entertainment/Sony RedDistribution) and Mainstream (Meeeh Records), Viva Knievel boasts chaotic stage shows, salute-inducing patriotism, face-melting guitar solos and earth-rumbling renditions of all your favorite songs that other bands are too afraid to play. We like to take our audiences on a daredevil flight through the decades. We first concentrate on the songs that brought groove and swagger, Marshall’s and Vistalites, big hair and bigger songs to the masses. Then, we show you what we’re really made of. Featuring a full horn-section, Viva Knievel gets down on it and delivers some of the best renditions of funk and soul your step-dad has ever heard. When you regain consciousness, we’ll launch into modern mode and deliver all of your favorite contemporary hits with such a fervor and perfection, you’ll swear you’re dreaming. Well, you’re not. You’re witnessing the spectacle that is: Viva Knievel. You’re welcome.

Welcome to our community
By Bob Fenske New Hampton Tribune [email protected] S cores of volunteers, a host of organizations and businesses and dozens of community members have spent the past three months making sure the welcome mat is laid out for those taking part in the 2022 edition of RAGBRAI. And all those folks have a fairly recent blueprint to follow, for Ionia, New Hampton and Lawler all were
on the route the legendary bike ride took just five years ago. “I have my RAGBRAI bible,” said New Horizons- Chamber’s Theresa Rasmussen as she pulled a huge binder out of a drawer in the organization’s New Hampton office. “I do this for most of the big events we put on, and it helps to look back at ’17. It’s a good reminder for us what worked, what didn’t, what we could improve.” Committee members from all three Chickasaw JULY 29 RAGBRAI

New Horizons.
“We’ll probably see people leaving town a little sooner,” said New Hampton RAGBRAI Committee member Megan Baltes, “but save for the vehicles that met up with riders last time, we’re expecting much the same — big crowds, lots of groups planning activities and just a whole lot of fun —

Like many cities on the route, New Hampton has hired “contract” police officers to help, and Baltes, who serves as the city’s Economic Development Corp. assistant, said the city of New Hampton is gearing up for its biggest day in five years. “No one’s on vacation next week,” she said with a laugh, “but it is a fun way to show off your city. Meanwhile, Lawler may be little — it’s population in the 2022 U.S. Census was 406 — but it knows how to throw a party, too. We can’t wait for them to get here.”
And that’s the welcome mat all of the cities along the RAGBRAI route want to lay out for bicyclists. “It is a lot of work,” New
