MAYOR’S MESSAGE
Welcome to winter and a new season of recreation programming! Please rest assured that we are continuing to work with Southwestern Public Health to ensure our facilities are safe for you and your family. However, as COVID-19 is a rapidly changing situation, significant programming changes - up to and including program cancellation - may be necessary in the coming weeks. As well, capacity limits, entry procedures and other safety measures are subject to change without notice. If you are feeling unwell, please think of others and stay home. If your symptoms worsen, please get tested. Remember, we’re in this pandemic together!

COVID -19 PREVENT ION PROTOCOLS
Stay home and do not visit our facility if you are not feeling well or have a fever, cough or other symptoms of COVID-19.
Wear a mask* or facial covering whenever you are in the Community Centre’s common areas— entrances, hallways, stairs, change rooms, washrooms etc. Your mask can be removed when you are in the pool or on the ice surface.
Use sanitizer stations located throughout the facility to disinfect your hands after touching any surface used by others. You should also use sanitizer before and after adjusting your mask, or otherwise touching your face.
Stay 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household or in your defined social circle at all times. Cough and sneeze into your elbow whenever possible. Avoid touching your face.
12
*Southwestern Public Health currently requires individuals two years of age and older to wear a mask or facial covering while in an enclosed indoor space. Certain individuals may be exempt based on medical conditions, developmental or chronological age, or during specific activities that may inhibit a person’s ability to breathe. An exemption may be needed for those with lived trauma, individuals with mental health concerns, or individuals with sensory disorders. Please be caring and compassionate to each other. Wearing your face covering protects those who cannot wear one.
Wash your hands with soap and water immediately after visiting our facility or participating in any program.

Wristband Policy and Pool Admission Standards
*Individuals with serious medical conditions should be accompanied by an individual 12+ years of age who is knowledgeable of their condition and will be responsible for direct supervision.
We use wristbands and a facility swim test to identify young and at-risk swimmers in the pool. To pass the facility swim test, a child must be able to swim two widths of the pool with his or her face in the water. Swimmers must maintain a regular, comfortable breathing pattern and must not stop during the entire distance.
Red Band All children 5 & under MUST be within arm’s reach of a responsible guardian (12 years+) on a 1:2 ratio. Children ages 6-9 who cannot pass the swim test MUST be within arm’s reach of a responsible guardian (12 years+) on a 1:4 ratio. This ratio can be increased to 1:8 if lifejackets are worn.
Yellow Band Children (6-9 years) will receive a yellow band if they would like to attempt to pass the facility swim test. Results of the test will determine whether the child receives a Red or Green band.
Green Band Children (6-9 years) who pass the Swim Admission Test may swim unaccompanied. Children with green bands may be asked to retake the test if staff are concerned that the child cannot demonstrate the ability to maintain the Swim Admission Standard.

About our youth swimming lessons...
• Levels are progressive. If you are unsure of what level to register in, please contact us for an assessment at [email protected] or call 519.688.9011. • Children ages 7+ must change in their gender specific changeroom. Our staff changerooms are available for your use if you are not comfortable sending your child in alone. • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper. • Parents are permitted to view lessons from the pool deck. Only one parent per child please due to COVID-19 building capacity limits.
• On occasion, the pool may be closed due to fouling. The pool will re-open once the water chemistry is balanced. If a pool fouling occurs during instructional lessons, we will provide a dry land lesson where possible or provide each participant with a Family Swim Pass valued at $10.00. • No shoes are permitted on the pool deck. Bring your own deck designated shoes or cover your shoes with the supplied shoe booties. • Left something behind on your last visit? All found items are held for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, items are donated to a local charitable organization.
Aquatic user fees ($1.00) are included in all aquatic programs and admissions. This money helps fund capital projects and improvements.
44
• If your child is absent from their lesson, make up classes are not available. • If you have questions regarding your child’s progress or lessons, see the Lesson Supervisor on Deck. • If you miss the last day of lessons, report cards can be claimed at the customer service desk by booking an appointment for pick-up at 519.688.9011. Report cards will be held for 5 weeks from the last lesson date.

Why are some levels combined ?
COVID-19 has changed so much in our world, including the way we schedule our swimming lessons. Due to capacity limits, enhanced cleaning protocols and the time required to sanitize between pool user groups, some levels will be taught together. Rest assured, your swimmer(s) will still learn the strokes and skills for their level, however instruction time will be shared with swimmers at a similar level. The following classes will be taught in a combined format.
• Preschool 2 & 3 • Preschool 4 & 5 • Swimmer 3 & 4 • Swimmer 5 & 6 • Swimmer 7, 8 & 9
