THERE ARE THREE SITUATIONS WHERE THE NEED FOR REDUNDANCY MAY OCCUR:

1

2

3

A fall in work or the end of work

Restructuring

Relocation

WHAT IS A FALL OR END IN THEWORK? This is when there is a reduced need for the number of workers because there is less of that type of work . There can also be a reduced need for the same number of workers because you have decided to stop a particular type or work .

WHAT IS RESTRUCTURING? This technically falls under the fall/end description but is worth explaining separately. This typically occurs where a change in the organisational structure of a company or a department means that a job is lost.

WHAT DO YOUMEAN BY RELOCATING?

Redundancies due to relocation happen where a company decides to move operations a substantial distance. Any employee who chooses not to take a job in the new location will be made redundant (there are a few exceptions to this).

Redundancy situations are very fluid and vary immensely not just from industry to industry but also from company to company, department to department and role to role. We always advise to seek external advice and support when thinking of entering the redundancy process.
