8 CYBÈLE YOUNG Toronto, Canada, Paper artist. With her miniature sets, Cybèle invites us to stretch our imagination by associating unrelated objects to create a powerful commentary about our daily life. 6 KEVIN STAMPER London, UK, Marqueter. Marquetry is a craft of precision that requires years of practice and great attention to detail. Kevin makes it look easy and so totally gorgeous.

In a year when we have all been disconnected from our reality, I hope these exceptional pieces reconnect you to the world of crafts and the role creativity plays in enriching our lives. — ISABELLE

10 ROBERTA MASON Aylesford, UK, Glass blower Although Roberta Mason grew up in Minnesota, her work is inspired by the formation of waves, the language of bubbles and the amazing world of strange and wonderful marine creatures.

14 RACHAEL ASHE Vancouver, Canada, Paper artist. Rachael’s work immediately caught my eye. Her pieces are a mix of paper lace and trompe l’oeil as if Vasarely had used scissors instead of print. 12 LORAINE RUTT London, UK, Ceramic artist Loraine takes us on a journey around the globe and the stars, revealing worlds we did not know could exist and that we are eager to bring into our life.

16 TANIA CLARKE HALL London, UK, Jeweller Tania’s ability to imbue preciousness to humble strands of leather is nothing short of astonishing. 18 HAND & LOCK London, UK, artists How not to be enraptured by the goldwork and shimmering embroidery of the ex- ceptionally skillful embroiderers from Hand & Lock? 20 JUDY MCKENZIE Essex, UK, Ceramic artist I love Judy’s fluid use of colour that makes her bowls look almost liquid. You can lose yourself in the pattern of her pieces. 22 ANDREW IANNAZZI Cambridge MA, Glass blower Glass work is the art of taming light to make it glow in a subtle and delicate way. Andrew Iannazzi intense colour pieces are vessels of light. 24 JUSTINE SMITH LONDON, UK, Paper sculptor Justine subverts our relationship to money by making it into art; and at a time when it has almost entirely physically disappeared from our life.

RACHAEL ASHE Multi-disciplinary artist Rachel Ashe will get you to look beyond paper’s apparent limitations. Paper is flat, so when you draw on it, you have two dimensions. But the Vancouver-based Ashe creates hand-cut artwork and installations from the medium. Her works are inspired from everyday elements—clothing, architecture, interior design—and visual patterns found in nature. Some of her works are wearable, others are gallery-ready. “I am fascinated with repetition,” she says. “With my art, I can explore this through the type of work I produce.”

WORKSHOPS & THE CLUB

The Club, by Rue Pigalle

“Most people tear up when I give them their book,” Kate says. “It’s an emotional moment. Many of them say to me they had no idea how much work goes into creating a book.” — Kate Hol land

Bind Love: Put down your Kindle and create a a book with Kate Holland You would be amazed at how making and crafting can change your life. Imagination takes flight when the hands are busy, the mind is restful, the attention totally absorbed by the task at hand. And few crafts are more satisfying than bookbinding. Although few of us write literary books, we use notebooks to record our travels, our thoughts or our grocery list; we bind our recipes, we write short poems for those we love, we collect photos of moments we cherish. With award winning bookbinder Kate Holland, we learn to create our own notebooks with beautiful leather covers or Japanese stiches, luxurious writing paper and perfect spine.

*The bookbinding workshops are open to everyone. Members receive a discount code.

Gifted conversations and experiences If you—or someone on your gift list—has a curious mind and is a fervent supporter of crafts I invite you join The Club, by Rue Pigalle. Members have exclusive access to the world of crafts through our digital events, conversa- tions with artists, lessons, workshops and tours. From a paper marbling studio in Wiltshire to a Japanese bamboo artist, we crisscross the globe always in search of artists who have exceptional craft skills. Our “artisanal journeys” are inclusive. We believe that the craft of cheesemaking is just as important as diamond cutting and that Khoisan beadwork is just as fascinating as Inuit carving. Membership costs $250 Cdn per year.
