WELCOME! Since spring 2019, the Anderson Classroom to Career (C2C) Center has made possible for the School of Business and Economics to have its internship presentations in an expo format, where students who had internships talk to other students and faculty about their experiences, in a very engaging and interactive atmosphere.

Students who visit the expo also have the chance to network with employers in the area and hopefully establish connections for future internship or even full-time job opportunities. After a year and a half of virtual versions, our expo format is back in person, and we are excited to see everyone back on Wednesday, Sept. 29! Students will have the chance to connect with interns and employers, learn about specific internships and receive Pro Events credit. Here is a preview about our summer 2021 students and their internships. I hope you enjoy the School of Business and Economics Internship Expo!

MAJOR Finance

HOMETOWN Marathon, Wis. ORGANIZATION Northwestern Mutual Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Financial Representative

What I did: The thing that I did was working with real clients. I work on the personal financial goal and see where I would be able to help them. In many aspects we really do help people become financially free and reduce their stress when it comes to the personal financial situation. Future Dream Job: My dream job is what I am doing in my internship. The reason for that is because I really like the company that I am working for, helping people work around their money and to improve their situation and seeing how happy that it makes people. Also, the satisfaction of knowing that people are in a better circumstances than they were before is a good feeling.

MOLLY BAKER ’23

MAJORS Accounting Finance HOMETOWN Thorp, Wis. ORGANIZATION Church Mutual Insurance Merrill, Wis. TITLE Underwriting Intern

What I did: During my internship, I was able to review various insured accounts for Church Mutual and decide what changes to policies we needed to make. I got to work with seasoned underwriters as well as account managers, processors, and many other people involved in the process. In addition to these tasks, I was also able to research an emerging risk to the underwriting department and give a presentation on why it was a risk to our business. What I liked: I really enjoyed being able to complete my renewals in a task format. I enjoy checking things off a list, so being able to complete renewals gave me a feeling of accomplishment. I also enjoyed getting to know all of my coworkers. Everyone at Church Mutual was willing to help me advance in any way I needed. The atmosphere at Church Mutual can be felt even through the screen.

Future Dream Job: I do not have a specific dream job, but I would love to never get bored at work. As long as I love what I do every day and always have something new to work on I will be happy.

ALLISON BERGER ’23

MAJOR Management HOMETOWN Sheboygan, Wis. ORGANIZATION Saco AEI Polymers Sheboygan, Wis. TITLE Human Resource Intern

What I did: I worked on many small projects with employees’ profiles and updating employees’ statuses when they changed. I learned how to change payroll in Orbit. I worked on checking different employee’s benefit plan and coverage types. I learned how to do the 401K audit this summer, which is a very important project for the company. I also updated SACO’s old onboarding process for new employees to make them feel more welcomed and aware of what our company is about. What I liked: I liked working with the employees here and learning how to work with people. I loved working with coworkers who supported and helped me throughout this internship. I also liked getting to know all of the tasks an HR office has throughout the summer which was a good eyeopener for me, too. ALEC BRAATZ ’22

MAJOR Accounting HOMETOWN Stevens Point, Wis. ORGANIZATION Schultz Property Management Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Accounting Intern

What I did: I worked closely with the controller and operations manager in accomplishing a multitude of tasks. I assisted in standard accounting tasks such as invoicing but also completed work regarding property taxes, expenses, and receivables. Given that Schultz Property Management is a small business, I was able to also complete tasks not directly related to accounting. I organized and maintained files, shredded and disposed of documents, collected and sorted mail, and scanned and digitized miscellaneous paperwork. I also gained experience in drafting leases and receiving payments from tenants. What I liked: I liked working in the close-knit environment of a small business and appreciated the ability to work one-on-one with the business’s management team. I was not simply ushered away to a secluded back corner of a corporate office; I was a part of the daily operations of the business. I was able to feel the business’s heartbeat and engage in its many aspects in a detailed and intimate fashion. Future Dream Job: I hope to someday be an accountant or financial professional for a nonprofit in Central Wisconsin.

MAJOR Business Administration HOMETOWN Athens, Wis.

ORGANIZATION Aqua Finance Inc. Wausau, Wis. TITLE Recreation Funding Analyst

What I did: My job as a funding analyst is to review paperwork for RV and boat proposals from dealerships so we can fund them. We receive around 100-200 deals a day for about 13 of us to review them. Once all the paperwork is good and has all the correct information, we fund those deals. Fun fact was for the month of June, we funded a little over $200 million’ worth of boats and RVs. What I liked: I really enjoy the people at Aqua Finance. Everyone is very welcoming and are always willing to help with problems or questions I had. I also enjoyed developing my skills at the job throughout this time. It was time for me get better and get more trustworthy with higher dollar deals that we received. Everyone starts out with the low dollar amount deals and the longer you work there and the better your performance, the more we are able to do. Future Dream Job: My honest dream job is outside of the business major. I would love to become a basketball coach for a D1 basketball program or in the NBA.

What I liked: What I liked about working at Endries was I got a firsthand look and experience with logistics and supply chain management. Most people do not think about the process of what they buy and how it gets to them, but I got to see firsthand what it takes to keep supply chains running smoothly and how purchasing goods works. Future Dream Job: My dream job to be a financial coach to ask risk families and help people understand the power of a dollar and how to make money work for them.

HOMETOWN Hartland, Wis. ORGANIZATION The Baker House 1885 Lake Geneva, Wis. TITLE Event Coordinating Intern

What I did: I spent my time at this hotel/restaurant event venue assisting the operations manager in communicating with guests and organizing private events. In addition to my role making BEOs, calling and emailing clients, I also made weekly graphics with upcoming live music and events we were hosting to post on social media and to send out to our email list. I essentially helped in any way I was needed to, so my job role changed constantly. What I liked: I liked how I was able to coordinate and execute my own events throughout my time here in addition to assisting with larger projects and ongoing tasks. I also bartended which I really enjoyed because I was able to work the events and talk to the guests and ensure they were getting the best service we could offer. DREW FRANKLIN ’22

MAJOR Marketing HOMETOWN Oconomowoc, Wis. ORGANIZATION Bergstrom Automotive Appleton, Wis. TITLE Product Genius

What I did: •

Deliveries: Every time a guest buys a car, new or used, I meet up with them after they’re finished with the sales advisor. I explain to the guest how the vehicle operates: features and gadgets. So, by the time the guest leaves, they feel satisfied knowing how to work their brand-new car. • Completing Disclosures: This is the gathering of necessary documents we need in order to sell the car on our lot. • Transporting Inventory: Myself and another one of my coworkers go to different Bergstrom Dealerships to pick up vehicles for our sales advisors to show to our guests. Or we pick up cars to add to our lot inventory. • Lot Organizer: Throughout each day, the cars in our lot get moved around and parked elsewhere causing the lots to look empty, unattractive and disorganized to the eye. Therefore, at the end of each day, I park all the “miss-parked” cars in their needed spot, so by the time we clock out, our lot looks professional and appealing to our guests. What I liked: I like the pace that comes with this job: Fast. Additionally, the fact that every day isn’t like the rest, is another aspect of the job I really like. Lastly, I’d like to work in a sales-type job after I graduate, so being able to firsthand experience what sales is like, is awesome! It’s giving me an idea of what the responsibilities are for a sales job, therefore when I get a sales job after I graduate, I’ll be ready for the challenges I’ll face. Future Dream Job: When it comes to my dream job, I’d like to own my own business. I’m not sure what exactly I want to open, but with time, I’ll get more of an idea. But being able to open a business and controlling what products I’m selling is my goal. I’d like to be financially free well before 65, therefore, with this goal in mind, I’ll be able to be there for my family and kids without having work to worry about.

MAJOR Business Administration

HOMETOWN Wausau, Wis. ORGANIZATION IncredibleBank Wausau, Wis. TITLE Deposit Operations Intern

What I did: I alternated time between two departments within IncredibleBank: Deposit Support (Bookkeeping) and Digital Support (ebanking). Within Deposit Support, I processed and made decisions on whether to return, charge, or omit overdraft items, worked with unposted items, handled all morning printing duties, and worked on a three-phase compliance project. In Digital Support, I processed and approved hundreds of millions of dollars in outgoing, incoming, and international wires, and worked on verifying ACH setups. In addition, I also worked on a special consolidation project consisting of consumer legacy accounts totaling deposits of nearly $500 million. What I liked: I liked many things about IncredibleBank. My experience there was better than I could have asked for. Working at IncredibleBank helped me get a better understanding of the banking industry, and what it is like to be a true business professional. The culture at IncredibleBank was something that really stood out and was truly one of a kind. All my colleagues were knowledgeable, kind, always ready to help, and an overall joy to work with. I was also exceptionally impressed with the company’s ability to be a true community bank although having a legitimate international presence.

Future Dream Job: My dream job is to be a farmer.
